View Full Version : The Dumbest Thing A Redskin Has Ever Done

My friend who has always been a loyal Pats fan (even B4 they were good) is living it up right now. Whenever I bring up the FACT that we are currently amidst a REVIVAL of our heritage and tradition he says "What tradition is that, players headbutting padded wall after TDs and getting hurt." Referring to Gus Frerotte...Thinking back that has to be the stupidest thing I can ever remember one of our guys doing?
Whats your vote/story?

I would counter that Gus Ferotte hardly represents the heritage and tradition of the Redskins.

No, I just don't see the headbutt as being that big of a deal.
Now I firmly believe Westbrook slamming his helmet and fgetting the unsportsmanlike directly cost us the playoffs that year. Also, he attacked and sucker punched Stephen Davis. Both of those would rank up there for me.

Oh man those two things totally escaped my memory (probably selective memory loss). The helmet was the stupidest thing I think I've seen on the field from one of our players, simply shameful.

Another Westbrook Classic:
But Westbrook and Langham got entangled again as Westbrook tried to fight his way off the line, and Westbrook who was called for 15-yard face mask penalty. It wasn't a penalty of emotion, like Westbrook's costly gaffe last season against the New York Giants when he yanked off his helmet arguing a call. But it certainly hurt the Redskins. Green was sacked to push the ball back to the 22, and Blanton's 34-yard field goal attempt clanked off the left upright.

Wow Westbrook has two big time stupid memories.
Dexter Manley and his drug problems has to be up there.
Gus' headbutt was pretty dumb too.
I would say the midseason firing of Turner was Snyder's biggest mistake, followed closely by the firing of Casserly.

For me, what Gus did wasn't stupid at all (then again this is coming from the guy that head-butted the plexiglass divider during the big return against the Iggles). It was bad judgement, but it was done out of a firey enthusiasm that I can't fault too much compared to Westbrook.

He was at a formal dinner, and was sloshed. I guess Supreme Court Justice Sandar Day O'Conner took offense and he told her "Lighten up, Sandy baby". Goes down in history with his bow at the 50 yard line as a Riggins classic.

I think the Gus Frerotte headbutt thing was pretty stupid because that was such an intense game. If memory serves me correctly we started off that year 7-2 but had lost a couple of games. We really needed that game to stop the losing streak. It was the third quarter of a defensive struggle when he scored the TD to tie the game at 7-7. But he left us w/Jeff Hostetler at QB. Needless to say we finish the game tied 7-7 and slide our way out of the playoffs. Argh!! Why does it hurt to be a Redskin fan?

No, that's wrong. In a game, you're defending the Redskins' honor, not to mention your own as an OL. Especially on national TV. If you don't like your QB, you rough him up in some other way.

I don't know if this qualifies as dumb, or just comical:
-The MNF segment on Lavar's "chess room."
First off, that's great in and of itself... It led to my roomate and I just looking at each other and saying, "Lavar Arrington can play chess?"
The really funny/dumb/whatever part about it though was that he was playing his 8-year-old nephew (or something) and it appeared that the kid was beating him. Now, maybe he was letting the kid win, but it just enhanced the moment even more.
-Now if we include former Redskins and what they have done after their careers, I'd go w/:
(a) Michael Westbrook's ultimate fighting experience. I missed it, but how could it not be dumb?
Or
(b) Anything that Joe T. says during a football telecast.

i wont consider things with the FO, cause most of them(if any) have never put on a skins uniform. so from players....
i think it was the lavar arrington/sean taylor incident. thats almost as freaky as gus frerrote. the only reason i didnt go with the "redskin ram" is cause he meant to hit padding.

I don't care about the numbers; theyre irrelevant. The fact that his wife was negotiating with management left me speechless. The fact that she negotiated in the press was painful and embarassing. Gibbs should have traded him on the spot.
When she finally approved his deal, camp was halfway over; the team went to Japan for an exhibition and showed up totally unprepared for the new season.
That was the beginning of the end. The team managed to get into the playoffs and beat Minnesota in round one, but the fire was gone.

Albert Connell's sideline shouting match with Terry Robiski. Westbrook's attempted murder of Stephen Davis. Norv Turner's response (or lack thereof) to both. He let the inmates run the asylum.

No offensive lineman in the history of the world would have defended Jeff George, I bet ya when he got back in the huddle he insulted ever one of them.
They allowed that person to drag a Redskins uniform. The man inside it made no difference!

did I mention this is a bad thread? I don't want to remember the Jeff George's or the Gur Frerotte's of this team. :sfight:

Not sure I understand that? He missed a least one day of camp because the training staff held him out due to the irritation in his eyes? For whatever reason it really hurt him and I don't see that being embarrassing or stupid?

Normally a pretty good tactic, but I'm sure Sun Tzu was not speaking about football in the Art of War.
Never interupt the enemy while they are in the process of making a mistake. We should have let Dallas keep and promote Norv.

He did retire as a Skin. He just didn't play his last games in a Skins Uniform.
I would rephrase it as "Monk should have never played a game in a unifor, other than the Redskins".
That is the saddest fact of my tenor as a Redskins fans.

You talk about the antithesis of a 'Redskin', that guy takes the cake. After he left us, Albert went on to stain the Saints with that locker room stealing incident.

I'd have to say the dumbest thing ever was probably the Frerotte thing. I was getting thrashed @ work over that for months. I know he probably didn't have enough rhythm to do any other celebration, but c'mon, give me a break.

Letting guys like Westbrook, Deion, Jeff George and Bruce Smith walk out on to an NFL field with a Redskin uniform on, is the dumbest thing this team has done.

Actually I've changed my perspective on this. I think that the dumbest thing a Redskin has ever done was signing Trung Candidate. I still don't know who or why or how. Does anyone even know what he's doing now?

I think all of Mr. Snyder and Cerrato's FO moves before the new Gibbs era should be nullified for this topic, as there are too many to list

those first few years of playing live fantasy football were horrific, as has been stated (J. George, D. Sanders, M. Carrier, etc.) but they have done not too bad in the first round since Casserly left...

question was , stupidest thing a redskin has done, lots of posts talk about in a game , the thing that comes to my mind is the thing with john riggins ,he was at some function along with a female surpreme court justices think her name was oconnor , i may not be exact with this but riggins was drunk and asked her ? how are you doing baby or something to that affect . i am sure someone here remembers exactly what he said.
"Loosen up, Sandy baby". He also passed out under a table at a dinner (the same one, I think).

That's my vote.

For all those who smack Snyder around they should read the Casserly list there and see how well Charlie did. BTW I am not knocking Casserly, 1st round prospects are shots in the dark. Casserly excelled at getting talent in the bottonm of the draft.

I remember when billy kilmer fell off a horse drunk and got hurt......... If we are talking about history it goes back allot further than Westbrook and Davis. Then again I'm getting old. Anyone who plays for the skins become part of our history. Does anyone remember Riggo telling a congress women ... "You need to loosen up baby" There have been some good ones!

It was supreme court justice Sandra Day O'Connor. A little heavier weight when talking to someone who can sentence you to death.
