Lavar 12+ Million next year? Thats a alot, I wonder if that is counting the grievance that he filed or not for the extra money?

I dont think that Brunell number is right, he restructed and reduced his cap hit to about 2 million and change.
16 mil in dead cap, but the skins get that back after the season.

just think of where we would be right now had we NOT gone after coles or trotter. thats nearly 15Million in extra cap room we would have right now. with all that money, we could have kept smoot, pierce, signed some a-list talent.
its still amazing though, that we can absorb 16 million dollars in dead money and STILL have an extremely talented group of players. its a testament to excellent FO management this offseason, and to players on our roster who are willing to restructure to help the team. that says alot about the whole franchise, in my opinion.
we are definately on our way to returning to the glory days.

He couldn't have restructured all of those big numbers 4 years out.

Trotter! Every time I hear that name it makes my ears bleed.

Why does Garnell Wilds have dead cap space???? Clemons???? I'm not sure I understand that...in fact, I flat out don't understand that.

I'm not convinced the team would have kept Smoot and Pierce even with extra cap room. Don't forget...Smoot and Pierce wanted bigger contracts than better players on the team playing the same position (Springs & Washington). Gibbs & Company are obviously much more finacially responsible than in years past. I do not believe they would have backed down from their philosophy just because of extra cap room.

I hope that this new, sound fiscal strategy is not a result of limited cap space. I will be very disappointed if it is.

no, but he transfered some bonus and base salary into performance bonuses that dont count against the cap.

How are we looking on the cap for next season then? I know its early with Moss yet to sign andd our draft picks needed to be signed, but do we look to be in generally good shape (7-10 million under the cap), average shape (4-7 million under the cap) or bad shape (less 4 million) right now?

Assuming alot:
Brunell cut after June 1st 06
Lavar doesnt win his greivence
The cap goes up what it is expected to
The Skins could have in excess of 13-20 million in cap room after the 05 season. The bumps in salary for Lavar and Portis would be offset by the cap going up(reportedly anywhere from 6-13 million).

Moss probably wont count much against the cap until his third year. The 9th pick in the draft last year got a contract worth: 5 years, 10.6 million. The Skins gave David Patten more than that.

Have some faith in the FO's plan. This has been it since the beginning: to keep a similar level of talent and get the cap under control.

Hmm that salary cap hasnt been updated since mar 7th, so it doesnt have Brunells restructure.
Warpath has a more updated salary cap.
