Ya know the LB from virginia. I would like to know more about him. How does he play? Do you believe he would be taken ahead of Derrick Johnson? Does he play inside or outside. Whats your personal opinion of him? who is he comparable to in the nfl?

All info will be appreciated

Brooks is a beast. Aside from some typical college kid personal issues, he is a prototype MLB. Groh ran both the 3-4 and the 4-3, and Brooks looked great in both. He is the best MLB in the country, he def would've been a first rounder, but not ahead of DJ just because of his past problems (was absent from spring practices last year, a situation involving some marijuana), but he will be a good fit in the NFL. He is lightning fast, we (UVA) actually used him on a kickoff return at the beginning of the season, which scared the @#$# out of the other squad, and he was scripted for some short yardage situations, though i'm not sure if he ever got in on the offensive side of the ball. When questioned why Brooks was returning kicks, Coach Al Groh basically said that he was the fastest player on our team, and he was very willing to take the challenge of returning. Of course, Pearman did so well at it that Brooks quickly returned to MLB only. Anyway, the guy is a raw athlete, to the tune of Merriman but MUCH faster. He can dog blitz with the best of em, and can stop the run just as well. I don't know who to compare him to in the NFL because he is faster than any MLB in the league. He will go top 10 next year, and somebody's going to get an animal. It would be nice if the Skins could get him, but I don't want that high of a draft pick.

He was considered to be a 10-15 pick in most mocks I saw. He could be a pretty solid player. He does have some personal issues, but if he gets drafted by the Ravens, he'd fit in there. His upside is tremendous too. He'll come out next year and be a top 10 pick barring something unforseen.

I agree. He will be considered an early favorite to be a top 10 pick in 2006.

I'm glad I'll get to see him play another year at UVA.

I encourage everyone to watch some UVA games this year. Brooks is going to be a force to recon' with in the ACC...

His hype will be greater than Merrimans current hype.

This is all true. I also think that he would fit in perfectly with the Ravens, I shudder to think about him and Ray Lewis side by side with Suggs and (Boulware?) as OLBs. What a nightmare.

Ahmad Brooks is a hoss, I actually played against him in High School and saw him play many games at UVA, a guy with his size (6'4" 250) and speed (4.4's) is simply unstoppable.

that guy is a player...when they played tech last year at lane i saw him make a lavar play and jump over the line to get randall before he could hand the ball off...he is going to be a top 10 pick if not the top pick next year.

He could well even be top 5. The guy is quality now and has the potenial to be 1 of the best.

I agree with everything said, but does anyone know why he went back to school? He would have been a top pick this year.

I'm not sure...but I know the UVA faithful is VERY happy with his decision.

I wonder if he wants one more year so he can compete for a top 3 spot....a la Lavar.

Brooks is faster and more physical than DJ. If they were put side by side at the combine, Brooks would have been drafted ahead of him. The extra 20 lbs and the speed and quickness at that weight are truly remarkable. He plays downhill at all times and seems to enjoy contact. He can make plays from sideline to sideline ansd endzone to endzone.

He would certainly be the first or second linebacker taken in this draft - the first if I were picking. And that's no insult to DJ, who is a real playmaker. He just doesn't love the punishment of football the way Brooks does.

I thought I heard Kiper say the other day that Brooks would have been a top 5 pick this year if he had came out. He definitely would have been picked ahead of Johnson.

I think the way this draft class has gone over the last couple months, I think he might be right. At the time he said he was going back, I thought he would be no higher than 10. If that's what I saw from his position, I'd do the same as he did. I would take another year to get better and pick up a couple million more with a top 5 spot.

Him going back could have had something to do with a minor knee injury he suffered at the end of the year.

A lot of people seemed to be sold on him in 06. I wonder what Gibbs is going to do with this whole situation.

My knock on him is that he still is a little raw, and might not be ready for the NFL, I'm glad he stayed another year, hopefully he'll stay after next season too, but that's unlikely

I went to school with ahmad he is a good guy. On the field he is a great player and his father was a redskin :) . Mixed with things i have heard and heard from him while still in school, i dunno if he is a gibbs guy. His focus is definitely on football though, thats why he had to go to a prep school first and why he was eligable for this years draft even though only in his 2nd year at UVA. I for one am glad to see he is staying another year at UVA, i actually hope he finishes through his senior year.

I'd like to see him on the skins and i know he is a skins fan. Hopefully staying this extra year is to prove he can avoid his "legal troubles", or even to finish school. We might not see him in next years draft....so i dunno if i'd count him out becoming a skin just yet =P

this is not any inside stuff, i havent seen or talked to him since higschool...but this is my opinion. His major setback was maturity and decision making, if he was going for the money he would have entered this year.
