You know what i cant fault the trade at all. I wanted to get two impact players out of the draft somehow and my opinion was trading down and pickin up a 2nd was teh best way, and hoping someone falls to the 3rd we may have gotten lucky n got 3 impact players. Now trade down is still a good option and pickup carlos rodgers (if MW isnt there). But the fact that we gave a 3rd and a 4th next year isnt a huge deal to me. Now sure those picks could turn into stars, but so could 25. I am tired of the skins trading low round picks hurting them arguement. Is there one position where you say depth wise were screwed? Qb, na. RB, Betts, Simon, Morton, n Rock I am fine with. WR, depth not a problem at all, more at the top. TE/HB I mean this pos needs some hlep Sellers and Royal will be depth if we take miller or trade dwon and get smith, but look for the 4th 6th or 7th to be TE. OL, i mean with Rabach in and Jansen back and the two young guys from last year with a year under their belts the only thing i would want is maybe another guard or C so rabach could slide over possibly. But we have a 4th and 6th we can do that with. D-line, guys like Evans and Warner and Clemons, Boschetti and Noble, im fine there. LB, shoot the most loaded position in depth, Marshall can start and might hafta, Campbell, Clemons, Smith. I wouldnt mind adding a MLB but im fine with the depth there. DB, Wilds, Brown, Clark, Lott, Jimoh(haha), now CB we need help at the top of the depth chart and it seems we will add a top rd pick there.

Point is, what do picks in rd 3 and below normally end up being, number 2 guys on the depth chart at best(see Lloydd Harrison, Nate Stimpson, Skip Hicks, and Rashad Bauman). I mean i am fine with the depth on this team and i think most of these guys can start. Look at Clark, Wilds, Marshall, Clemons, Boschetti, Wilson, Royal, Jacobs, Thrash last year. Some got starts others played major roles. Im happy with the young guys on this team and our ability to add udfa guys. My conclusion, this trade wasnt bad except we gave up a first next year(had to to get #25 tho), and i am excited about the opportunity to add one starter now and one impact player this year/starter this year maybe/starter in the future.

Thoughts on our depth and the trade?

you made some good points and i agree what you said ..But some of the people want heath miller ? I have never saw him play so i cant judge him but as far as my friends have told me he is not that good of a tight end i heard hes real slow and has nice hands but anway to get back on topic with the 25th pick that we got do you think we are going to get matt jones?

matt jones is verrrrry intriguing but it all depends on the number 9 pick. I think Jones would fill a void more at WR than TE, but i think he would see some time in an HB role as well as WR

A 6'-6" tall wide receiver with 4.4 speed and QB smarts is very intriguing. we are good with depth on this team, now hopefully we are just a couple of impact guys away from fielding a playoff caliber team.

I would like Jones, but arn't there more pressing needs? Jones would seem to be the only know player that drafting at 25 would have affected, because the big rumor is that he is going to Philly with 31? Maybe Gibbs has decided he likes his speed and smarts.

I don't know what to think about this trade. Maybe is will be a little more clear on Saturday.

yea think about this...matt jones visited last week or so...campbell they are just now visiting. i think this trade was either made to get heath miller or matt jones and campbell is a smoke screen...and if we get wr at 9 then the best cb on our board comes off at 25

I'd like to get another OT before camp begins. We need some depth there.

I watched heath miller play in college and he is not what i would consider slow expecially for a tight end . . .if i had to assume a 40 time i would say 4.6 mabye a shade lower and he knowes how to use his body expecially in the redzone . . .he could be a game changer not only in our system but in any system.

Chances are that he will be there at 25, but its up to JOE.

you know, i am really getting tired of everyone (meaning people here in these forums) calling this offseason a disaster b/c of recent draft position moves. gibbs has repeatedly said he really doesnt put much stock in the draft and builds through free agency. and he did that last year. he did that again this year. we got 2 good, fast receivers, a good center, and a good safety.

sure we traded away some draft picks, but gibbs doesnt build around those. he's already built the team he wants through free agency.

some fans here are getting all ancy b/c we traded away some draft picks and might end up trading UP to get edwards. well so the hell what?! to gibbs, the draft is just icing on the cake.

everyones whining about us not having a corner or DE. well you know what? we were 3rd ranked defense last year, and we only lost 2 defensive players.

1. an undersized, injury prone corner. in the game we played without this corner, against one of the leagues best pass-offenses, that was FIGHTING FOR SURVIVAL IN THE PLAYOFF RACE, a little known, young corner named wilds stepped up and covered the hell out of randy freaking moss. our defense will be fine without fred smoot. we dont NEED to draft a top corner.

2. a one year wonder at MLB. lemar marshall filled in fine for arrington. he will fill in fine for pierce. and has everyone forgotten about michael barrow? plus we have clemmons.

our defense will be just as good, if not BETTER than last years without these guys. remember, last year everyone was adjusting to a NEW system. this year, theyre already all familiar with it, and we only lost 2 guys! they should KILL offenses this year, especially with arrington back.

our only area of TRUE need on our team is offense. if we had scored 21 points a game, we would have made the playoffs. weve upgraded at center through FA. we've got 2 new receivers through FA. one is a fast little devil from the jets, the other has been to 3 superbowls in the past 6 years.
jansen is back. gibbs has adapted to the "new" NFL. musgrave is coaching Ramsey.

if we traded ALL our draft picks this year and got edwards to be a big, fast, receiving threat, then i would still view the offseason (as a whole) as being an enormous success.

i dunno about that last statement...haha thats a bold position. But i disagree that the draft isnt important to gibbs. you dont build on fa, you build on ur young guys. weve gotten these guys in place already so late round picks that we had to sacrifice werent a huge deal. we got those young guys thru fa and undfa so we have a foundation already. the draft is a big deal cuz u should add a starter at least thru it, especially with a top 10 pick. no more building thru the draft, this project is already in order so we arent building were reshaping and upgrading

but i do agree the defense should be fine with or without major additions. we get lavar, bowen, daniels and hopefully barrow back, along with increased roles for guys like harris, wilds, clemons and the improvement of ST. dont forget all that

Interesting interview with Cerrato on wednesday night on the NFL Network's "Total Access" show. Among other things, he said that we if we had waited to trade with the Broncos on draft day, the price would have been even steeper.
