I read and watch as much as I can about football and the team I love (SKINS). I think I am at my end with many of these players on the team. No wonder we have been so terrible for the past few years. People can blame coaches and management all they want but your talent will only take you so far (although they picke these dummies). At some point a smarter more intelligent player will outplay a stupid talented player all day long. What ever happened to players being able to make a full sentence! I don't know how many times I pull what is left of my hair out hearing some of these redskins say things like "ya know what I'm saying.." NO I DON'T!
I look at Gibbs players from the past and even if they were not real bright they would try their best to sound like they were. Why do you think Gardner is out oh here. Not because he is not an athlete, rather i think he may just be too stupid to play. He sure sounds rather dumb when speaking. Same goes for most of the Miami talent (portis and taylor) we have on the team. How they made it through college and how any college would be proud of sending a young man into the world with a false sense of security that they have a college education is a joke.
Listen to some of these draft guys we are looking to draft. I watched NFL network last night and watched 3 draftees struggle to make conversation. One of those being Pac-man jones. Hey I went to WVU and seen how some of there players get through classes. Jones sound like he would fit right into the mix. I know there are issues all the time with the offensive name of the Redskins and native americans wanting it changed. I suggest we can keep all the hats with the "R" and just call them the Retards. At least it would represent many of the players.
Sorry to sound so crappy but it is getting harder and harder to admit to people I am a skins fan.

I agree with the majority of what your saying, but you can TRAIN a smart player, but athletes are BORN with intangibles you just can't cultivate.

Look all these guys are atheltes. Some are still to young to be at their prime. Look around the league at stat leaders. many are not the fastest, or biggest, but they know how to use their head and what these coaches train you to learn. Hell I would even settle for just football smarts. When you can't remember your route or too damn lazy to run it correctly, you are not s smart player. You can take a smart WR or TE and teach him technique and how to take advantage of his defender (even if he isn't big and fast) and he will get open a lot (Largent is prime example)

OK I don't understand.. I don't know if you remember the many interviews Sean Taylor made last year...On John Thompson show, espn, And the press conference when he was introduced and NFL Newtwork. Before he got drafted...He sounded intelligient then...Santana Moss spoke clearly when he was introduced. I hear Portis speaking his mind about issues regarding the team....I don't see where you're coming from?....
I'm not clearly understanding your post.

There is a big difference between being a "smart" player and being a "responsible" player.

OK now I read it for the second time...I do understand now..Pac Man didn't impress me either. I'm not gonna put it on the southern accent, he just didn't seem like he was on top of his game. And who knows many people don't do well in camera. I had to speak in public meeting and functions when I was younger, it's scary...but as time goes on, you do get the hang of it.

He'd better hold up that knee and make a tackle...he can't be a welfare athlete for another year...getting a check for free.... :lol1:

Accents and having a personality is one thing but not making good decisions on and off the field are not what makes a smart player. I would rather draft a player from a smaller school, that had his head on straight, and a little less physically talented than someone from a bigger school that is there based on his talent alone. Just look at Taylor. He is a awesome athelete. If he had the mentallity and drive like Darrell Green he would not have to worry about contracts. It would be there for him. You just don't see great players that last in the league say and do as stupid of things as some of the players do on this team.

What stupid thing is he doing?....Are you suggesting that he's holding out?...We won't know that until mini-camps....

Smart thinking Lady, cause I could swear this thread was destined for the Rant Discussions, NFL section.
Yeah, Dexter Manley, had a way of getting around reading, though it baffles me how?? In the meantime, his speech was more of an accent than it was not being intelligible.
The same can be said about Edgerrin James, who has a distinct, deep, down home southern accent, but still speaks clearly, reads very well, and is coherant.
Yes, there are folks out there still dodging the realities of the world that is outside of football and it will catch them like a snare. However, the agent has a duty to make sure his CLIENT gets all the help he needs, to interpret and read for himself each agreement hammered out by the owner, FO, GM, NFLPA, and NFL. IT is his duty to insure his client is afforded ALL of the legal assistance provided to his client, TO INCLUDE THE ABILITY TO READ HIS OWN AGREEMENTS, according to legal Model Rules, Statutes, ABA, and decisions.
If they do concur this, then it is the player's responsibility to improve HIS quality of life, include communication, speech.

Hey PaleFace, did you know that Pacman's dad and other close family members were shot to death? Did you know that he takes every day of life more seriously than the average Joe? Maybe hes a bit shy but besides his wonderlic or his conversation skills, he allowed 1 td in 2 yrs (allowed because the sun was in his eye.) You can only take so much from a conversation. Your point may be relevant if he couldnt speak english however I doubt that was the case. These kids arent stupid if they are academically eligible at D1 schools. I know plenty of people that have flunked out of college. The fact that hes going to be a millionare tomorrow makes me inclined to think he is smart. I dont mean to be so defensive about this but PacMan, Portis and Taylor are all more than smart enough and shouldnt be knocked as if they werent. Regarding Gardner, its not that hes too stupid to be a competent receiver, he just doesnt give a sh*t.
