John Clayton is reporting that the Redskins are about to pull him off the market and keep him as their third receiver.

It's at the end of number six on his list.

right. more smoke and mirrors. nobody wants to give the skins value for gardner, because they know he's just gonna get cut anyway. so the skins are trying to pretend like they won't cut him. there's no way he'll be here next season.

If we trade down, up, or for a player, Gardner will probably be included IMO.

....but imagine he decided to stay. That would have huge implications for the draft statergy. No need to pick a WR and that #9 pick could go on the QB every has been predicting.
Just a thought.

Please let this NOT be true. I can't stand another season of the pain. Why, oh why would we put somebody out on the field if you can't depend on him?!

Can you say "posturing" boys and girls? I can.
No way a team gives up a third round pick if we are willing to cut him on June 1.
This is all about making people think that he still has some value to us.

I will believe he is gone when he is gone and not a second before. I have said for a long time that he may be here next year, especially after the Coles debacle. I want him gone but the fact he is not leaves me wondering why. I have seen receivers who are no better move from team to team, heck Terrell went to the Patriots for heavens sake.

Ugh, the list of #2 WRs on the roster will continue to grow is Gardner isn't dealt.

I see that as a fire being lit under Gardner's agent behind to get something done.

If it's true gardner better hurry up and pull his house of the market...

Using my hindsight as 20/20 there is only one year out of his entire contract in Washington I'd want him on the field for us. And that's next season. Why? It's a contract year for him. He's going to play his tail off for a killer contract the following year. Whether it's here or somewhere else, where he doesn't want an extension....why, it's not going to be a lucrative deal because of his subpar performance. That adds up to Gardner being totally motivated and potentially having a hell of year. If that year ends up being in Washington, so be it. Might not actually end up being that bad a deal for us.

This, again, could be subterfuge.........or downright idiocy. If Gardner is said to be coming back, then the FO might be attempting to put up a smokescreen that they will then be more likely to NOT draft a receiver in 1st round, AND more likely to draft a QB (Jason Campbell). Or not. :)

That is a very interesting take. I can't believe I didn't think of it that way regarding Gardner b/c IMO he seems to be the most uninspired, unenthusiastic player ever. Maybe looming FA is the motivation Gardner needs to play consistently and maximize his talents. However I don't know how he comes back after the skins have basically told him they don't want him.

Me either..just threw it out there as a "might not be all that bad if he does stay" thought.

I was checking out 40 times a little while ago. I didb't know that TJ clocked a 4.39/40. I'd love so see him get a chance at 3 or even 2.

To be honest with you Jacobs, Thrash, Patten and Moss would be a solid starting 4 IMO. No worse than last years ,and if used correctly potentially better. If we add a CB and a WR / DE on day 1, we could very well have all we need to post 3-4 more wins this season and make a push for the playoffs.

I really enjoy this courageous post and completely agree. He might actually be worth retaining this year. We have all concluded him foregone which is not in stone yet. If anyone can motivate him psychologically it would be Joe Gibbs.

I think taylor jacobs deserves a shot as well. If he is not going to get one then that was a wasted pick and they should be checking his trade value also.
I am not sure about gibbs being able to motivate Rod, if that were the case he wouldn't have been clubbing weekly during this past season. I was thinking only the $$$$$ can motivate rod.

Smoke.
Mirrors.
Head Fake.
Red Herring.
Trojan Horse.
There is absolutely no chance Rod Gardner will be on the Redskins after June 2, 2005. THE FO has given up on his inconsistent receiving skills. He peaked three years ago. He's part of the cancer we had in the WR group. Coles is gone. Gardner will be traded/released next. I hope that DMC goes also. We need a housecleaning and are getting it.

Hindsight is 20/20 but 50/50 is 50/50. In Rod We Do Not Trust. Seeya, trade him and our fourth round for a late 3rd (Seahawks?) and quickly snag Lefors. Done and Done.

I completely agree, I'm tired of not seeing a guy like that get a shot. Its a really crummy situation for him. I think he could be a very dependable player.

Guys i gotta tell you, the whole RG trade isnt looking like it will happen. Now ofcourse i know i might be jumping the gun alittle on this one but, i think it's time we start to consider the situation if he does stay. Will he get less money? Where would this leave D-MAC? Does Rod keep his status as a starter or do we use him sparingly? Do we just cut him all together? Do we let him compete during TC or do we just keep him on ice? Let me know....

Gibbs, who called Monday's meeting positive, said the Redskins would not release Gardner. He also said he expects Gardner to attend the Redskins' May workouts and June minicamp.
"I would think he would be here," Gibbs said. "He has a contract."
Gardner's agent, Joel Segal, wouldn't comment on whether Gardner would attend those sessions. But he did say his client would play for the Redskins this season, if nothing is resolved.
"Sure, it's the team he's on right now," Segal said.
Segal, who also termed the meeting positive, was at Redskins Park representing one of Washington's first-round draft picks, Auburn quarterback Jason Campbell.

I wouldn't mind if we keep him, he is a big reciever and there aren't too many of those around these parts except for McCants, he is in a contract year so he will play a lot better knowing that if he does he will get a big deal next season, although probably not from us, but could be a good year for him and help the skins as well has himself next season, he did lead us in td catches last year.
