From the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/05/14/AR2005051401091.html)
At the end of the article:And he alluded to the possibility of hiring former Redskins tight end Don Warren to work in the team's front office, though he wouldn't elaborate on Warren's potential role. Perhaps it's to impart his signature work ethic.
I am a huge "Dutch" fan and would love to see this. Do we have a dedicated Player Personnel guy? Anyone who lives in the DC area have any inkling as to in what capacity The Dutchman might work for the team?

I'd love to see Donnie back in the fold. I thought his retirement from the NFL was too quiet, he just kind of faded away. Not proper for such a great TE IMO.

I would love to see Dutch back with the organization in any capacity. You can never have enough good character hard working people involved and I think his work ethic and team first attitude could definitely rub off on some players.

Always loved Donne Warren. Would be nice to have him back in any capacity. How about cloning himself because we sure could use a TE just like him.

Yeah I loved listening to him on Comcast after the games. He really spoke truthfully. I hope he's a scout or something like that because I don't think ol' Dutch is the sharpest tool in the shed. :)

lol! i think his speech has slowed from all the head knockin' he did during his Hog days.. can't blame the man after all the pounding he put on. i wonder what happened to him with CSN?? he was there for a couple years and then all of a sudden disappeared during the middle of the year.. i think the purple beaks game was his last appearance. guess they thought he and Gary Clark weren't entertaining enough and brought in BMitch and Sczaban (not cool to let go of a former Skin' for a monday morning qb radio jock).

That would be the best offseason move the skins could make.
I read the quote but have no idea what he is qualified for...

remember, just b/c a guy used to play, does not mean that he would be a good aquasition for a personnel, or otherwise "mentally challenging" position. im not excited, nor will i be if they hire him... the only thing that excites me this year is the fact that greg williams is in his second year w/ the defense and ofcourse that "joe Gibbs" (moment of silence) is tweaking the offense.

I believe Donnie coaches (or used to coach) at Centreville High School...

Just because a person is not facile with quick speech doesn't mean he isn't smart. Donnie Warren is a smart guy and he knows a lot of football. Conversely, Deion Sanders speaks easily and with conviction but I wouldn't let him drive my car much less steer my team. Anyone confused about Primetime's intellect need only listen carefully to the well modulated but largely meaningless drivel that escapes his pie-hole.

Donnie Warren is Redskins to the bone. I'd love to see him working with the Redskins again.
ComCast sucks and i'd love to see him not be on there anymore. Comcast should only carry Baltimore sports since thats what they spend most of the time talking about.
Its time for the DC to have their own Sports channel.

He just loves to talk. Mostly about himself.

He probably would be able to catch better than many of our recievers from last year, even in his old age. Maybe he could teach some guys how to throw that block to spring portis for a run...
Anyway it's nice to see them bring the old alum in the mix, even if it's in the office...

Let's not forget that for seemingly endless seasons "primetime" dominated Redskins receivers (and most other receivers) with absolute authority. Although not always Socratic in word or perspective, he does at the very least deserve a level of respect commensurate with that of the Dutch in terms of accolades based on ability. I agree with the previous comment that being a good player does not qualify one to coach at any level, much less at the highest level in the world. This however would apply to both Donny boy and primetime.

Agreed. My rebuttal was directed at the cavalier way in which DW was described as being "not the sharpest tool in the shed". Donnie has an fine grasp of football and that is apparent if you listen to what he has to say rather than how he says it.
As to being qualified, I am guessing that Gibbs is a better judge of football acumen that you or I, and if Dutch passes muster with Gibbs then he certainly derserves his place on merit rather than sentiment. Gibbs likes to win too much and has too many former players to make a habit of handing out front office positions as freebies.

It's official. Donnie is added to the scouting department. He'll make a great scout. He brings the old school Redskin mentality to the table and will evaluate players for the intangibiles.

That's what I thought he'd be. He knows what Joe Gibbs is looking for and I'm sure he has a good eye for talent.

This is great news. I love that we've got guys like Byner and now Warren working with the team. Warren was so solid for so many years. It's amazing how long he played at such a consistent level, especially considering all the heavy contact he was involved in for most of his playing time. He's definitely a Joe Gibbs expert, so I'm sure he knows what the coach will be looking for.

The key here is Skins type people that will look out for the long term success of the team and hopefully understand that character plays a big part in success.

I hope your right about selecting "Skins type people". Sometimes I wonder if there are "Skins type of players" since the nature of the game has changed with the marketing of individuals and players receiving outrageous contracts.

If Parcells can have Maurice Carthon, Jim Jeffcoat and Sean Payton on his staff, I don't see why Gibbs can't use the people who know his system best to make the team more than a one man show.
