When you see stuff like this written, especially on the hall of fame's website, how can you not smile as a Redskins fan.

http://www.profootballhof.com/history/team.jsp?FRANCHISE_ID=32

During this tumultuous off-season (for some of us) we need to appreciate the fine tradition that our franchise has.

Hail to the Redskins.

In 2004, Gibbs returned to the sidelines when he was hired as the team's head coach once again.
It looks like they left room at the bottom for another chapter of Redkins glory to be written ;)

well as a hardcore redskins fan I do not shy away from representing them but I am in high school and I have never been on the winning end of a football arguement due to our ineptness over the years. I wish they would give me something I could rub in my friends faces (who are dallas, and Falcons fans) It is so irratating when people point to our record and be like the deadskins suck.... and since we arent that great most people fav. teams are better than the skins so I have no arguement. I can point to injuries, draftees, and the coming year but I am always disapointed. Its like having a drunk for an uncle you say he's your uncle and u still love him but he embarasses you more times than not. even after all this i still will feel B&G till I die

You're not alone my friend. I actually got my mom into football during SB XXVI. She started really following the Redskins after Gibbs' last year, aka the beginning of the Norvell Turner era. She's been bitching to me about the same stuff ever since

I met my wife after Super Bowl XXVI and made her a Redskins fan or at least made her put up with me being one. We have only made the playoffs twice since then and she always thinks we will lose now.

Those are great times, and this is a great organization based in history. Too bad I've never really seen any of it. I've lived through "the Great Depression". It's time to turn it around.

the redskins are definitely overlooked as an organization. everybody talks about the 49ers, the cowboys, the steelers... but they never talk about the skins. we had 3 superbowl wins and 4 appearances in 10 years. plus we were a winning team prior to that. i love this team and this organization and its past. im proud to be a redskin and a redskin fan.

Forced participation the foundation of a good marriage...Ill keep trying to bring mine around maybe with the allure of free beer and large crowds.

We have such a great history as a team. We will be back in the lime light here real soon. Damn I can't wait to have the forth superbowl ring. That will definitely shut people up. :Peace:

Nice read. But still no Monk!!

Hard to get all misty-eyed about something the Hall is saying when at the same time, they are dissing a very good Redskins player!

Just keeping it real!

Gibbs will turn this thing around. Who would've thought that Gibbs would be thinking about using zone blocking to free up running lanes for his running back or going to a shotgun formation? He's willing to do whatever it takes to make this team a winner. While many of us don't agree w/some of the decisions being made by the FO, one thing that is sure is that its good to see that there is a plan in place. We are no longer a "free spending" franchise. Unfortunately it cost us Smoot and Pierce but at least we're making the tough decisions. You can throw in trading away a disgruntled but still good WR in Coles as well. Last year I saw fight in our team that I hadn't seen in many years. As a matter of fact, I've never seen the defense fight like that, ever!! I am and always will be a proud Redskin fan. People at my job think I'm crazy because I wear my Redskin gear all year 'round but that's me. All these tough times will make it that much sweeter once we do start winning games. Keep the faith and Hail 'Skins!!

The thing that I don't get...only 2 teams go to the Super Bowl each year...and we aren't the only ones that haven't been there in awhile...heck, even Dallas hasn't been there since 1996. Before this year Philly hadn't gone since 1981 (and they lost that one as well...)

I think we're about due....

Yeah, not to be the one malcontent, but until Monk is inducted, I will never be happy with the HOF. And yes I know they don't really have anything to do with who gets inducted, but I'm angry.

I wish they would give me something I could rub in my friends faces (who are dallas, and Falcons fans)

For your Falcons friends, ask them how many Lombardi trophies they have in the trophy case.

Call them front-runners too. The Falcons today are like the Chicago Bulls of the Jordan era. People only like them for one of two reasons:
1) They are from the Atlanta area. (or Georgia in general)
2) They are Michael Vick fans.
My guess is that your friends only like the Falcons because Vick is on the team and they are winning games.

To me, it doesn't matter why you started liking the team, but whether or not you stay with them through thick and thin. I started following the Bulls b/c I lived Jordan, but I stayed with them after he left and even when he went to the Wizards. I don't understand people who jump teams...

All that said, I only consider myself a fan of the Redskins and Tar Heels. Bulls, Phillies, and Maple Leafs are my favorite teams in their respective sports, but I don't have the same level of commitment to them as I do to the Skins.

Absolutely. Once Vick is gone, the Falcons will lose half their following outside of Atlanta...unless they continue to win. I'd put money that these friends of his would switch to the latest fad in a heartbeat.

I commend you for sticking with the Bulls. When Jordan left the Bulls the final time, I couldn't care less about that team any more. I actually tried, but they could no longer hold my interest. I'm pulling for the Lions now because fellow Hokie Kevin Jones is there. When he goes, I'll probably lose interest in them too.

The thing is, my core teams will never change. Redskins & Falcons. Wizards. O's and Braves. Caps. DC United. It's those 2nd-tier teams that can vary.

I just thought of a third reason people like the Falcons. Their colors. I can picture those kids wearing all black with the baggy Falcons jersey to their knees and their pants around their ankles. It's cool to be a Falcons fan for that reason too.

I agree that loyalty, for whatever reason, is the main thing. My teams are the Redskins (4LYPH!), the Nationals, and the Wizards! I'm home-grown, stone to the bone!!!! Nuff Said!! :banger:

This is a great synopsis, I have used this to send to eagles fans many times when they talk about their team and how great they are.
They have not achieved greatness and will probably have to wait another 24 years to go to another SB...
It does feel good, our history is great.
