Did the massive guard merely have a sophomore slump or is he targeted for replacement?

Definitely, with the addition of Rabach he should have more help, and he has another year under his belt working with Bugel.

I'd feel better with a capable backup to push Dock, but I would give him first shot at the starting job. No excuses. Gotta get it done b/c we can't have another losing season.

yeah, he will end up starting but only because I don't see us picking up anybody to compete. IMO he should lose 30-35 lbs and improve his quickness if he wants to become a fixture on the line. Plus he's got to stop the false starts and holding. I'm hoping he comes through because we really don't have good depth.

Dockery hasnt impressed me. I wouldnt be surprised to see Ray Brown there or even Mark Wilson moving to the guard spot.

I think Dockery can be an ALL-PRO if Bugel gets him to use his head and improve his technique. He is so physically talented that he should be a starter, but if you don't have the intellegence it doesn't matter. I remember when he was a Playboy All American at Texas and he would just maul over defenders. Alot of it may have to do with the Skins not having a decent center over the past couple of years. With the addition of Rabach, we may see a change in Dockery.

I think Dockery is still deserving of a chance. I feel he has talent that needs to be tapped into. Buges should be able to get better play out of him now that we have a better group of linemen.

I don't think Ray Brown can cut it as a full time starter at guard. he is great backup for a game or two but not for the long haul. Dockery is the guy there this year. IF not we part ways and go with a draftee/fa/ or Mark Wilson next year.

Dockery hasn't impressed anyone....but he has all the tools. And by the way the skins didn't address the OG position in the draft is a sure sign that they have all the faith in the world in him.
Randy Thomas was just "OK" last year too. But another year under Bugal will help both these guys alot.
But make no mistake, if Dockery doesn't do it this year, then someone is going to get his starting spot.

im not on the ray brown bandwagon. i didnt think he played all that well last year, and wasnt really concerned with if he would be back this year. its good to have him as depth, but i dunno if he could contribute full time. if dockery doesnt perform as well as he should, i'd rather have friedman fill in at LG. but personally, i'd rather have dockery show great strides in his 3rd year.

I agree. Dockery has the tools, but what he doesn't have this year are the excuses. He's fresh out of excuses as far as I'm concerned. If he doesn't do it this year, he's done for.

I KNOW that Dockery will have a good year. He doesn't have a choice. He's got too many good friends playing with him. I don't think that he wants to leave and he knows that this is probably his last chance to prove himself.

I think he will bring some urgency to his game. He made some bad mistakes last year, and we have a much improved front with the return of Jansen and the addition of the NEW C.R. So, he will be with some guys who will be holding thier own, and he has to as well or he will stick out like a sore thumb!

just like Ramsey, this is a make or break year for Dockery. it's funny how we heard the team thought McCants could be the next Monk and now where is he? and Buges at the start of last year professed Dockery could be the best Guard he's EVER coached. too much high praise to young players who haven't proven anything can be a detriment and actually impede their progress.

That is how I feel too. The problem is that we currently don't have anybody to take his place on the depth chart. Who are our backup guards anyway? O line depth really scares me. should of, could of, would of but it would have been nice if elton brown slipped 1 more spot to us.

well i figure Wilson or Molinaro could be used at guard, or maybe one of the 3 big huge dudes they brought in after the draft this year could pan out.

Lets hope some of these young guys develop fast b/c as I see it right now our only backups on the interior w/ experience (before cuts), are a 42 year old man and friedman or raymer, which IMO is downright scarry should a long term injury occur.

Lets look at some things that would have negativly affected Dockery's play last year.
1. He is young a 25 year old 2nd year player is not a veteran and they are all prone to those kind of mistakes.
2. He is switching systems which is hard to do for any player but a 2nd year guy that is going from to very diffrent systems is tough.
3. The C play last year was terrible and it hurt both the play of Dockery and Thomas every time they tried to pull they would trip on Raymer because he was being driven back.
He will shine this year and in my opinion be named at least a Pro Bowl alternate.
The bottom line is that he is to physically talented not to hold onto.

I agree with CC. The kid should benefit from the consistency of the coaching staff and the improved play of Rabach.
If he falters, I guess we're looking at Ray Brown.

Dockery was a constant source of frustration for me last year with his slow movement off the snap and his failure to know his assignments. It seemed like every third snap, Samuels was having to reach to snag and inside rusher let go by Dockery.
Dockery does have the physical size and strength but he needs to do 2 things to pull his game together:
1) replace 30# of flab with 10# of muscle and play at 325 to get some quickness back - and -
2) learn his darned playbook.
If Gibbs (hopefully) can put some of his playbook back in and restore the complexity of the pre-snap shifts and motions and Dockery and Co. can execute, look for Portis to be scary.

On the theory that a chain is as strong as its weakest link, Dockery may be the most important key to the Redskins 2005 season. All the other positions on the O-line appear to be well-manned (barring injuries). If Derrick has a good season, the line could have a monster season. Since all offenses start with the line, this in turn can lead to sizable running lanes for Portis and adequate pass protection for the immobile Ramsey. Given time to pick out his receivers, I think Ramsey can have a decent year (although I think Campbell is still the long-term solution at QB).
Thus, it may not be stretching the truth to say, as Dockery goes, so go the Redskins in 2005.

i think Dockery will be a star in this leauge befor its all said and done . . . a two year all american in a confrence known for powerful D's and toughness . . . he has what it takes he just needs to put it all together and i think this is the year it happens or at least we see it start to take shape

What evidence do you have that he will "bring some urgency to his game"?
Has he said something or are you aware of him showing up at 6 am every morning to lift weights for 3 hours? I am curious why you think he will bring some urgency when he did not last season or the year before.

He has all the tools to be great. I still think he is above average in run blocking. He was an absolute mammoth beast at UT. This is definetley his make or break year. If Rabach works out as well as expected I think Dockery will shine.

The coaching staff seems to be really high on him. Dockery must be showing something in practice that just hasn't consistantly shown up on gameday yet. Maybe this year he'll have that comfort level to do well in games.
But definitely, a repeat of his performance last year should not be tolerated. Not just because of the penalties, but also because he was one of the best defensive tackles we faced last year.

This is where the Rabach signing comes in huge. Raymer couldn't block a soul last year, and Dock had to lend his hand. Now Rabach can handle his own, allowing Dock to.
Dock will get it done this year. You just watch.

I'm liking dockery this year because he has so much potential. He's had a rough road as most rookies do but i've never heard him open his mouth in a negative manner. He has all the tools around him including players and coaches and i think barring injury he'll show us something.

N0. I believe he was picked by arizona right before Washington's original 4th round selection, which they traded.

i have to believe the coaches like him, since they have not persued a free agent guard, nor drafted one very highly, unless Wilson, Molinaro and the 3 huge guys they brought in after this year's draft are thought to be capable of replacing him.

Ray Brown is done. If we are relying on Ray Brown, then we are in trouble. And with the depth we have at the OG position, we may be in trouble anyway.

The Dock is back in, he will do much better with Rabach at his side, but he has to get it together this year or Wilson will take his place. Ray is just too old, he is a great guy who gave us all he had to give last year, but he doesn't need the pressure of starting. He needs to be a emotional leader from the sideline...

With regard to those who wonder who can replace or push Dockery, Chief-P makes a good point: what about Mark Wilson? He was a rook last year; we got him in the fifth round.
...He was inactive for most of the season, but did earn his first NFL start in Week 12 at Pittsburgh. He played right tackle in the game. In college, Wilson was a dominating offensive lineman who could play either guard or tackle. He was considered one of the best offensive linemen in the PAC-10 in 2003...
