The Redskins' latest roster includes two jersey number changes: running back Rock Cartwright has switched to jersey No. 31 and tight end William Palmer, an undrafted rookie out of Notre Dame, has taken No. 40, Cartwright's former number.

dang, whats the deal with the # changes? Now Rock fans will be POed about him changing #s....

I think the "public outcry" will be held to a minimum with tear gas and pepper spray! Either that or Wendy's coupons! The Danny is a master of such things!

See, I really liked this guy. Smashmouth style TE outta BC. Not sure he was NFL TE material (well, I'll trust Gibbs and co), but I read interviews with him and scouting reports and had a good feeling.

They did bring in Baber as a FA and he can play HB/TE, plus Holloway and Sellers and there is still the other UDFA Palmer.

I was hoping to get the Kashetta jersey. oh well.

I'm very disappointed to see Kashetta go so quickly, but as said I trust the coaches. I just think we are lacking that real monsterous blocking TE.

Well i thought Kashetta could have been playing for us so this was kinda a shock.

He supposedly changed his # to 31 to honor his mother who died last year on May 31.

I am still VERY worried about the TE position. Right now we have Royal and possibly Cooley playing there out of position. I say we draft Heath Miller...oh wait ...uhm... never mind.

sometimes they let guys go to make room on the roster and then bring them back later. i dont know if that will be the case with this guy, but it's a possibility.

Of all the non-consequential matters for the Redskins this year, Rock changing his jersey number has to be ranked near the top. What difference does it make what Rock's number is when he has virtually no chance to make the final roster. It was a miracle, or more accuratey a total lack of depth at the RB position, that allow Rock to stick around in 2004. Now, the Skins have added White and Broughton, both of whom are significantly bigger than Rock and both were good special teamers in college. Couple that with the fact that Joe Gibbs plays a one-back offense, there would have to be 2 or 3 injuries to the RB's for Rock to have any chance.

Perhaps. Perhaps not. June 1 has not arrived. When the new guys get let loose, we will see what we shall see.

I have to agree. I got chewed out on the Mike Sellers thread for not respecting his game, but Sellers is a backup at best. If Sellers was such a great option at TE, we woulda seen him there by now. He's much better as a blocking HB out of the backfield then on the OL. Royal is a decent red zone threat and solid but no exceptional blocker. But doesnt this team need a more skilled blocking TE in a run first offense? I was hoping Kashetta was that guy, and maybe Palmer is.

Any June 1st cuts for TE? anyone?

i dont understand why everyone was screaming for a blocking TE like Donny Warren, then they say "all Sellers can do is block". He's probably the main reason why Walter Rasby was released. Gibbs wants a blocking TE and Sellers is 6'-3" and 265 pounds. If all he can do is block and play special teams, there is a position for that exact description on this team. plus he's signed for 3 years and he's cheap. im not saying he makes the team, but the fact that he is only a blocker cannot be used as an indictment against him, IMO.

All I've been saying is that if Sellers was a skilled TE he would have beaten out Royal, who is no Don Warren. I'm all for keeping Sellers if he earns his spot in camp like anyone else. Obviously he has ST skills, but maybe not the right skills to start/back up at TE.

Then again, if Gibbs and the FO thought that TE was a priority, they would have drafted one, or gone after one in FA. So I guess I just hung myself with my own rope. Oh well. S?!? happens.

I did a little research on Palmer, and he was primarily a blocking TE in college. Didnt catch many passes and not an exceptional ST player. Not exactly the step up impact player many hR folks were looking for in an offseason TE pick up.

Maybe Palmer was brought in to replace Sellers. i wouldnt doubt that at all. in the past, Gibbs frequently had 3 TE's/Hbacks in the offense at the same time. in the SB against Denver, he frequently had Don Warren and Terry Ore at TE, with Clint Didier at Hback. he switched the running back duties between Timmy Smith, George Rogers, and Kelvin Bryant. It keeps everyone guessing. we will probably keep more TE's/Hbacks on the roster than any other team in the league.

They also brought in Billy Baber, who grew up in Charlottsville and played for UVA. He seems in the same category as Sellers. ST player who plays TE/HB but doesnt do a lot of receiving. I think that will be the main comp, and my guess would be that Sellers would win that spot.

5 or 6 TE/HBs - most likely Royal, Cooley, White, and then two of Sellers, Holloway, Palmer, and Baber.

Cooley is the best receiving threat. White could get stashed on the practice squad for a year. Sellers has good speed and can back up Cooley. I think Gibbs really wanted to keep Bryan Johnson, and luckily he replace him with Cooley. Rasby didnt work out, so maybe Palmer can replace him (big blocker). Holloway is the fastest of the group, but also the smallest, so maybe Royal beats him for a spot. not sure about Baber, but you gotta be pretty smart to get into UVA.

I think White may end up playing ST and back up Cooley as a receiving and perhaps rushing threat. Folks were really into putting Cooley at TE and White at HB but i doubt he is ready and I dont think that is a good use of Cooley's skills.. I think Gibbs and Byner really like this guy, but he's most likely not going to be ready to start. Same with Nemo.

i agree, but i cant believe Nemo is 5'-11, 250 pounds, that is built. and Cooley ran the motion kinda slow, and with the reduced play clock, they need the motion to go faster from the Hback. last year, Thrash actually ran some of the motion like an Hback, and he sprinted back and forth in that role. So maybe Cooley would be better suited at TE with a faster Hback. He played TE in college, and some hback, so i heard.

I think we lead the league.

Heck, Barrow has had 3 numbers and he hasn't even played a game.

Barrow should be taken to court. Didn't we already get fleeced enough? I can't believe in any way this guy was checked out thoroughly, and hasn't played a down due to injury! He doesn't even look good for this year. The Danny must really be loaded to keep being a care taker for this guy! I say give him a TV, heck even a recliner, and push him out the front door.

And yes, that IS what I really think...so don't ask. :)

It's hard for these guys to have loyalty to a team, much less the actual number that they wear themselves

It was our doctor who ok'd him. Don't blame the player blame the team doctor. Froim what I have read the injury should of healed fine but then the tendinitis happened and that was something that could not be fore-seen.

Barrow may need to be an injury settlement. I am not sure they can outright release him but they did carry him on IR for a year so maybe they can.
