View Full Version : My Brother was a reporter at E3!!!

My brother works as a news reporter and editor at a Pittsburgh radio station. He was sent to Cali to the E3 Gaming convention. He had exclusive passes and met the executives of both Playstation and XBOX. He received a lot of information on the specs of both systems, was shown the 3rd party support for each, the on-line functionability of each, and get this, he played TONS of games on each next generation system. Keep in mind that the initial next gen systems at the E3 will NOT be the final version, but merely a "glimpse", if you will, at the future of gaming. This is what he told me:

He basically said that BOTH systems are incredibly awesome. Both of them!! He went on to say that at the end of the day, you can't really go wrong with either. It is a matter of preference. The most telling thing that he eluded to IMO is that he firmly states that the Next Gen systems will follow the format of the current systems.

What I mean by this, is that he said that the XBOX 360 is "CLEARLY" the better and more powerful system of the two. Hands down. He said that their on-line functionability and upgrades run circles around playstation 3. He also said that the XBOX 360 comes with a 20 gig 'removable' hard drive....that is designed to be system "upgradable" (to the extent that it will be possible to include a 120 gig hard drive). Yeah, 120 gigs! I find that hard to believe, but thats what was reported at E3. He stated that playstation 3 doesn't come close (and will not have the capability to even compete). Also, XBOX will provide every new user with "on-line" ability right out of the box.

Now on to PS3. He clearly stated that the PS3 will "blow the XBOX out of the water" with game selection. He shared with me that at E3 he played a TON of PS3 games that probably will not be available on XBOX....well at least not out of the gate. Many of those titles dealt with fighter games (you know, the mortal combat type of games). He also believes that PS3 will have more users, simply because of game selection. While XBOX is very aggressive in trying to add more game developers, they lag far behind Sony.

Bottom line, from his perspective: XBOX is the far better machine, but PS3 has the far better game selection......just like now. He also said that by the end of the convention, he (and his collegues) agreed that the XBOX 360 stole the show and by far created the biggest buzz. Once again, it seems to all be about preference.

I'd say XBOX has the far better games myself.

Well, no one can argue that xbox has fewer games than playstation. Sony has Microsoft beat by miles on that one. That being said.....

As an XBOX user myself, while I personally admit that ps2 has a far superior library, XBOX has everything I need. Halo II is the best game I ever played....and it happens to be on XBOX. Also, I think that the XBOX 360 will have TiVo-like functions.

I buy mostly sports and first person shooter games, and XBOX is more than adequate for me. I am also a Splinter Cell fan, and that came out on the XBOX first.

While PS2 had far more games, I was never impressed by that, because most of the games were crap to me. I only have about 10 games (and that's all I need). I have Halo, Madden, a few Splinter Cell's, a racing car game and a couple of others. That keeps me more than satisfied.

Based on the research that I have personally done, and by talking to my brother on several occasions, I'm sticking with the XBOX. Sony hasn't done much to change my mind on this one.

Yeah PS2 has tons more games than XBOX, but that doesn't mean that they have better games. And all the games that have versions on both systems, the XBOX version is always better looking and the gameplay is always smoother.

Whenever I buy the next gen, it will probably be the xbox 360

I'm waiting to see the final final specs on both systems, along with the final prices for both before I choose. But I just don't see myself parting with my Xbox Live.

Well, based on what my brother said (as well as an industry magazine recently said), the specs are in and the XBOX has way more juice. That's what I've heard on both of these fronts, for what its worth. Now price is another animal al together.

That doesn't mean anything. You can't be looking at game selection and call it lacking right when the consoles come out.

Example: How many really good games came out when the PS2 first came out? Like one... remember, quality over quantity (sony is still trying to beat out Halo with its pre rendered Killzone 2  )

I've owned some form of Playstation for the last seven years, and I'm not sure if I can part with it. Besides, XBox controllers are disgustingly big and clumsy compared to what I'm sued to. However, the loading times on the PS(2) and the fact that my cousin's Madden looks about 800 times better than mine is starting to swing the balance.

Well, the XBOX controllers continue to get smaller. That, plus I hear that there is an XBOX controller designed just like the PS2 controller. That would solve all of your problems.

Trust me, I owned the PS1 and PS2, until I went over my buddy's house a few times and played his XBOX. After that, I sold my Playstations and got an XBOX, and haven't looked back. As far as the current consoles are concerned, Playstation can't come close. If it could, then I would still have it. :)

No one in their right mind would say that the PS2 is a better machine than the XBOX. Facts are facts. The XBOX is unquestionably the better machine. Hands down. Some people prefer the PS2 because of game selection, and I can understand that. However, if you only play a couple of games (that are on both systems anyway), then it doesn't make sense not to get the better machine......XBOX.

I haven't decided which way I'm going to go. I have a PS2 now and love it, but I only play a couple games. I mostly just play Madden, NCAA, Killzone, and the Metal Gear series, with the occasional NBA Live or MVP. Killzone 2 looks absolutely jaw-dropping, and I love the first one (haven't beaten it yet. play too much madden or online multiplayer). Metal Gear 4 hasn't had actual screens yet but I'm sure it will be amazing. PS3 looks like it will be my choice for now just because of my loyalty to Sony, but things could change. June 06 is a long time to wait.

Do you know if Madden will come out for the new XBOX? If so, I really should pre-order and get it over with now...

If the new xbox really beats them to market by about 9 months, then I think the PS3 will struggle to keep up. People already rave about xbox now (I am the only one of my friends that has PS2)....

Yeah, Smoakme, it is supposed to come out on the new XBOX, but from what I understand, they will release Madden 2006 in August (like they normally do) on the current XBOX, and another Madden 2006 for the new XBOX sometime in late October. This info. is the best of my knowledge. Hope it helps.

And when the PS3 comes out (around June 2006), I'm wondering if it will debut with Madden 2006 or just wait 2 months and start with Madden 2007. In any event, both of these systems look like they are going to we well worth it.

What I've also heard, is that the XBOX will be 'tweaked' and offer newer options by the time the PS3 comes out.

In other words, XBOX 360 will debut in the fall of 2005, and they will continue to work on it for about 8 months or so and have newer XBOX 360's available right when the PS3 comes out, and these versions will have some bells and whistles added to them. What a scary thought.............
