CHICAGO – Illinois guard Dee Brown broke his right foot during a game at the NBA pre-draft camp at the Moody Bible Institute on Wednesday, likely forcing the junior to withdraw from the NBA draft, Brown told ESPN.com.

The Big Ten player of the year and the Sporting News' national player of the year will have surgery later this week in Chicago and be out for at least two months.

Brown, sitting outside the Wyndham Hotel with his foot in a cast and crutches by his side, was despondent over his luck. He had just exited the Northwestern Medical Center across the street.

Brown said he had a meeting set up with the Los Angeles Clippers and would like to fulfill a few other commitments this week, but was realistic that his NBA dream for this draft had abruptly ended.

I wonder how he and his coach will spin this when practice starts, knowing he was ready to end his college career for the NBA?

i would imagine that his teammates wouldn't care. i'd be thrilled to have someone of his caliber return. it's not like he was kicked off the team or started saying things detrimental to the school. he was the heart and soul of that team. he'll be welcomed back without question.

Yeah, I agree with fentonator. It'll be all good. Illinois will love having him run their offense next year. Now if he had bashed the University it would be different.

I'm actually happy to read this. Hate if for him but it'll be great for college basketball. Plus with all of the other PGs that are declaring for the draft this year it may playout well for him and next years draft.

Good decision by Brown. He really needed to come back. He clearly is going to have to play PG in the NBA and never really had full PG duties while at Illinios (Shared with Deron Williams). If he can comeback and have a strong season he should be one of the better PGs in the draft next season.

I guess my biggest concern is that his heart won't be in the college game next season. Hope I am wrong.

His heart better be in it or he'll cost himself millions, if he comes back and has a big year he'll move up the draft charts b/c he doesn't have as much help around him as he had last year.
