Redskins | Time Running Short for Flemister? - from www.KFFL.com

Paul Woody, of the Richmond Times-Dispatch, reports for the Sporting News that Washington Redskins TE Zeron Flemister needs to pick up his level of play or he faces the time running out on his potential. Backup TE Robert Royal could push him during the upcoming year for playing time.
Well, McCants looks as if he could be in a helluva battle just to stay with the team. I wandered about this, with SS emphasis on speed, i knew he would have a hard time.
As for Zeron, this does not surprise me. Robert Royal showed very well last year and I see them going TE next year in the first three rounds. I can the Skins going with Royal and Stephens this year.

Is this "Paul Woody's" opinion...or did someone in the front office make mention of this?
I can see how someone would assume DMC needs to increase his level of play...but if the FO literally said so...then I WANT TO KNOW!
Like I've been saying for MONTHS around here...The Redskins need a tall possession receiver like DMC. He is the tallest WR they have...and Spurrier won't be able to 100% rely on a bunch of 5'9 receivers inside the 20, IMO.

Good questions dj, I believe these are his opinions and his only.
I'd like to see Robert Royal get more playing time. I liked what I saw from him in preseason last year. As for McCants, why did they keep him around this long. I know, I know. Competition.

McCants had better make the team. Without him, the only posession reciever we've got is Gardner. We need more that one, and God forbid Gardner getting hurt....

I think McCants will make this team, I am sure Pat Johnson will be a non factor even if he makes the team.

I think withthe Skins having that possession WR in Gardnmer, McCants will ahve a fight on his hands tomake this team. Why? because Steve Spurrier and his offense are all about speed, period.

I still think Johnson is the odd man out...Cliff Russel will also need to show alot.

I think the odd man out comes down to Russell or Johnson and Russell had better not get hurt again this camp or he is gone

You guys seem to have alot of confidence that Steve Spurrier is not going to go with speed. If it comes down to Johnson, Russell, and McCants, and say they perofrm nearly equal in camp and pre-season, McCants will be gone. Spurrier wanted a faster offense, he said that was one fo the biggest drawbacks of the 2002 team, was lack of speed.

I just think Russell will remove himself with another injury as he has shown to do, Johnson I do not believe will beat out McCants, he has a career high 29 catches for a year(or something like that) so I think McCants will do just fine and help Coles and Rod and Jacobs, unless they cut Flem and make McCants into a pure recieving TE

I suppose that could happen but I don't think it will. He is too undersized for that position IMO. That being said I think he will make the team as a receiver. Not to much longer and we will find out.

from PFW Whsipers....
Mostly stuff we already knew
Don’t be surprised if Redskins rookie OG Derrick Dockery makes a push for a starting spot this season. The team has a glut of guards to compete for the starters’ spots, but the coaching staff loves Dockery’s physical nature, and he showed more athleticism at the minicamps than the staff thought he had.
Redskins WR Taylor Jacobs has picked things up pretty quickly. He has impressed the coaching staff with speed and good hands. He could challenge for the No. 3 WR spot.

We're likely to keep 6 WR... I don't know what they'll do at RB, that's the bigger question. SS = passing offense. Would he rather have 5 WR's and 4 HB's or 6 WR's and 3 HB's (or taking a position from somewhere else... we have a lot of versitillity on the O-line, maybe that frees up a spot?
Either way, i'll be more than a litle surprised if we go with less than 6 WR's. That's the norm, why go under in a passing offense? I think Pat Johnson is most in danger, we don't have a lot invested in him and he hasn't been around.

I can see SS going with less TE than the average and put instead 6WR and 4 RB. Or he may cut one of the FB.
