ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- Washington Redskins safety Andre Lott has a hairline fracture just below his knee, although the team expects him to be ready for training camp.
Lott hyperextended the knee during minicamp over the weekend, and tests detected the fracture. He'll be on crutches for four weeks, then will have two weeks to prepare for the start of training camp July 31.
Lott played in four games last year before tearing a pectoral muscle in a loss to Green Bay, ending his season. He re-signed with the Redskins as a restricted free agent in April.

Is it me or does he seem to have bad luck with his knees dating back to his college days?

well last year he had a torn pectoral, now a broken leg. he's like 5'-10. i'm not sure if we cut him, if anyone else would even pick him up.

Just bad luck. He was out last season and now he has a hairline fracture. Maybe he will be ok in about a month.

I think he'll be on the team because he plays smart and he can play a little corner too, he used to play that in college so he can play safety or corner and GW likes players who can play more than one position

I hope he is ok. He showed some flashes a few years back. He played well early in the season last year too.

Lott's injury recovery is likely to propel him into the next level.
He'll be very, very mindful of his workout regime and staying on top of his game. This is exactly what he really needed (minus the injury) to get to the next level of play. I am looking forward to his intensity level, coverage and run support. He may have more time on the field, whether ST was in trouble or not, anyway. Cream rises to the top.

My thoughts on the safety situation and an explaination for the McQuarter's/Hall/Dixon/Shulters (translation = why we are looking for safeties) . . . .
Prioleau and Clark are SS's. Both are solid but if they have a weakness, it is range/coverage skills.
Bowen also is a SS. Has anyone else seen footage of Bowen on the field this spring. I love the guy, and the coaches are saying he's back and they have to hold him back cause he's such a tough guy . . . but he DOES NOT look 100% at all. He is noticably not running normally or full speed. It's not his fault, but from my perspective, he's just not back yet from the ACL. Take a look at the OTA/minicamp video and let me know if you agree.
Lott is a FS and other than ST, is the only safety on the roster with enough range to be a "center fielder." He's out for at least a month with what sounds like a tibial plateau fracture.
Dixon is a SS who is at this point a body b/c we only have 3 healthy/not on trial safeties.
Sean Taylor's range as a center fielder is HUGE for GW's blitzing defense. Without him, or at least some other FS-type with range, our corners are very vulnerable.
Summary . . . ST's court appearance on Friday will dictate a lot of our strategy at safety. If the charges are dropped, or he pleads down to just misdemeanors --> I think we stand pat with what we have. If they motion to go trial or ST's status is still uncertain --> look for us to get serious about Schulters.

Even if that's so a hairline fracture is going to make even more vulnerable to injury... sucks for him.

I am taking the glass is half full approach on this one. It sounds like he should be ready for TC.

Hopefully Lott gets healed up quick and is ready to compete in camp. I agree that our defense drops to "above average" without Taylor. A guy like that allows the defensive coordinator so much freedom.

Bowen is only 8 months removed from surgery, and many players dont really hit full stride until their 2nd year back, so i'm not surprised if he's not 100% yet. it is good they are holding him back.
I think Springs may be the emergency answer for range and speed at free safety.

You think Spring's range helps a limited safety, or you think Springs will play safety?
If it's the latter, we would have to play a Rookie and Walt Harris at CB and move our best corner to safety (where he's never played before)?
Doesn't seem likely to me...but then again, I never thought we'd draft a QB this year. :)

Actually the thought never occured to me until i read this, now i think maybe he might play safety in some packages and his range and speed would help:
Williams said that Springs has been working at the safety spot as well, and he could play there occasionally this season.

I like the way Lott plays. Hope he gets back to form. Solid.
