Best article on Ramsey I've seen in a long time. Decent summary of his career and what he needs to do to make sure he stays in the Burgundy and Gold.

Good Read. Its a shame he had to enter the nfl under the infamous Steve Spurrier. For all the fans who think this guy has truly had a fair shake, could you imagine going from an insane Steve Spurrier offense to a outdated Joe Gibbs offense with numerous offensive players rotating every game/season? Not exactly a recipe for success. This year should be the best indicator of his overall value.

I can't believe the Players association site posted this article.

It's a good article and it's true. Somehow I think if Ramsey has a mediocre year and we let him go, he'll end up in Arizona to replace the washed up Warner.

Skinsinator, Ramsey has had plenty of opportunity to show his ability even in spite of the systems he's been in. The fact is that he misses open receivers on a fairly often and in many cases, he doesn't see wide open WRs. I think the latter might be a greater crime. He needs at least 3000 yards, a TD/INT ratio >1 and at least 20TDs to stay a Redskin.

Hate to say it, but I bet Parcells would take a shot at Ram. Bledsoe is only short term.

If that happens we will most certainly have more than eight wins.

If he sucks this yr will you admit that he's a bust or will you give us the one more season schpeil?

What you said is all true. I have liked Ramsey from the start and hopes he burns up the league this year.

That being said, most people (especially media) seem to focus on Gibbs so called desperate attempts to replace him and less on what Ramsey has actually done. He has had a few good games here and there, several mediocre ones, and several poor games. The one really overlooked fact when everyone writes an article about how bad Gibbs wanted Brunnell in there and how Gibbs stuck with Brunnell way too long, is that Ramsey was clearly beaten out for the starting job by over the hill Brunnell last season.

Also, if we are all honest with ourselves we will note that Ramsey holds the ball way too long at times and has endured much more punishment than he should have for that reason.

Hopefully this year it will all pan out for him though. I sure don't want another year to go down the tubes and be starting over at QB again next year!

I don't buy that. Gibbs went out and signed Brunnell before he ever saw Patrick play real time. On top of that he never gave Ramsey a shot until Brunnell was getting booed off the field at Fedex (I KNOW, I WAS THERE) in conjunction with the fact that Brunnell clearly wasn't healthy. Make no mistake; Gibbs most certainly stuck with Brunnell way too long! I don't think Ramsey is Manning or anything, but he sure as hell was better than Brunnell last yr. I think we can all rest in the fact that we’re hoping Ramsey lives up to the expectations on him this season. He will be on a short leash though. You know Campbell and unfortunately Brunnell are chomping at the bits.

I wonder if Gibbs would have stayed with Brunnell that long if Ramsey hadn't botched the Giants game so badly?

It says it how it is. I hope that Patrick really steps up, or he might be on that long list of former redskin quarterbacks who have become stars in other towns. Brad Johnson, Trent Green, and Rich Gannon just to name a few. Gus F never really became a star.

That's a good point. I think you may be right. If Ramsey comes in and wins that game in fine style, he may very well have won the job that game. I just hope he plays well enough this yr to keep the job.

I think you may be right. I remember that day, the team was moving alot better with Ramsey in there, but he kept screwing up badly in between good plays.

Ramsey is a guy with POTENTIAL and inconsistent play under questionable offensive strategies.

This season he will have a much improved offensive line; better running tandem (Portis/Betts) and run blocking; more consistent WRs (less dropped passes); much better offensive play schemes; the shotgun; and finally a whole year to prove himself.

If he has a breakout year and we win 9-10 games, he has a future here; otherwise, he'll be the mentor for Campbell who is waiting in the wings.

I have always been behind Ramsey. While it is debateable that Ramsey has received a fair shot up to this point in his career, most believe this is his year to either put up or shut up. He comes into camp the unquestioned starter. He's healthy and has had a full offseason to study the playbook more. I believe we should see a better Ramsey this year with an improved offensive line and more speed at the WR position. I think the things that stick out the most to me is his willingness to work hard and his growing confidence in the system. Those two things alone should give up an additional 2-3 wins. Let's just hope that is the case.

I think for sure he will play better than in the past and last year. The real question is how much better. I think he needs to show some big improvement to keep the starting job unquestioned beyond this season. I mean if his stats are slightly better and we win a game or two more I don't think that is enough.

He is tough, smart and has a great arm. The questions are about:

Touch
Correctly reading defenses and reacting to them
Checking down past the first receiver to others before going to the dumpoff
Mobility and having enough moves to make the defenders miss occassionally

If he significantly improves in THESE areas he will have a successful season and a future here. Bringing the team with a top 5 defense, improved ST and offensive weapons to the 7 or 8 win level will not be enough - IMHO.

I would say that he has to make the playoffs to stay here. If we're gearing up for a SB run in 2006, we'll need to at least get to the playoffs this season.

Don't forget about his hot reads...teams exposed his inability to get rid of the rock quickly.
