Just went to my first Nats game tonight, and I gotta say, this really ranks up there on the all-time list. Just loved every minute of it. I went with the girlfriend (Anna), who, incredibly, not only was the one who managed to get the tickets (a gift from her older brother who couldn't use them), but even came out in almost all red, complete with a borrowed Nat hat (this from a girl who said earlier that she hates watching baseball). Metroed to the stadium, and other than a minor snag when the gate personnel wouldn't let us in with the sodas we had, everything went smoothly getting to our seats. An elderly man with season tickets sat next to me, so I rotated between baseball basics and other convos with Anna, and more intricate details (like Guillen's frustration with home runs at RFK and wistful longing that someone, at some time, would try to pull the Hidden Ball Trick) with him. I know there have been plenty of complaints about the food service at the games, but it was fine tonight. I saw plenty of roaming vendors, and only had to wait a couple minutes for a hot dog, and later ice cream. Bought a T-shirt and second hat from the street vendors on the way out. Getting home took a while (seems like 10,000 people wanted to get on the Metro at once), but I knew that was coming ahead of time.
And the game itself, of course, was great. Six scoreless innings from Loaiza, and a little self-help with that RBI double of his. Wilky even finally hit another homer, right as the old man and I were talking about how he hadn't been hitting will for more than a month. And Cordero didn't even threaten to give anyone a stroke. ;)
All in all, fantastic night. I'm hooked. I can't wait to go back. :awesomewo
