Anyone read it? I picked it up and started reading it on the flight home from Vegas. It's pretty good, believe it or not. I'm not even halfway done with it yet, though. I do know, however, not to turn to page 99. Its horrible.
I read The Da Vinci Code on the way to Vegas, and it was really, REALLY good. I couldn't put it down to be honest with you. I finished it in two days I think. I was going to pick up Angels and Demons today at the bookstore, but the hardcover copy was $53.50. So I picked up America: The Book and am enjoying it pretty thoroughly :)

I thought the Da Vinci code was good, but I have my reservations about it. Dan Brown or whatever the author's name is not a great writer. Puts together the story very well, but not good writing. America the Book is really funny. Great Bathroom read.

America the Book is pretty solid. It's definitely worth a read.

I'll be the first to ask. What is on page 99?

Isn't it the dress the Supreme Court Justice page?
I bought the book for my sister for her birthday. She said she loves it so far, but sometimes forgets that its not a history book and when a random curse or just random statement comes out of nowhere, it brings her back. I'm going to be reading it after she is, but I've heard very good things from others.

Page 99 is the naked supreme court justices :P
It reads a lot like a history book, and it does get tedious at times. I think they realized that it does read a lot like a history book though so about every other page they stopped with all the text and put some funny animation/commentary/whatever type things in there.

Very funny book. I loved the tagline on the ads when it came out: "America - Now Available in Convenient Book Form".
I haven't even heard about America, but The Da Vinci Code is, without a doubt, the worst book I've ever read. I couldn't even finish it. Dan Brown is not a bad writer, he's a horrible writer.
The characters are predictable one dimensional cartoons, the good guys are the atheist tree hugging narcissistic pagans, the bad guys include a very pale man who believes in God; the hedonistic oh-so-witty and sophisticated heroes manage to have the upper hand at every turn so there is zero suspense once you catch on to his technique. This book is just not very good fiction plain and simple.
I have sworn never to read another one of his books, and I won't.
Dan Brown should be bludgeoned about the head for writing The Da Vinci Code without acknowledging that he essentially stole and dumbed down the plot of Umberto Eco's earlier, brainier mystery, Foucault's Pendulum.

Or this guy, Lewis Perdue, who wrote two books (Daughter of God and The Da Vinci Legacy.) He sued/is suing Dan Brown for plagiarizing his works, and put a chart out on his website or a supporters website explaining the exceedingly striking similarities.
Here's the chart:

I read DVC because, like everyone else, I got caught up in all the hype about the book. I expected something extraordinary, and I was quite dissapointed. It has to be one of the worst books I've ever read.
