Well, I cancelled my WoW account today and I've been sort of reflecting on why I cancelled it. I think that, in the end, I cancelled it because the game was just too easy and got real boring. I'm used to harder MMOs, like EQ. I mean, EQ wasn't always fun, but I played that game for over three years, and it held my interest pretty steadfastly over that time period. WoW was sorta like a roller coaster ride. Its real fun from like 1-35 or so, but after that, it just keeps getting more and more boring. The end game, from what I've heard, is near nonexistant. I only got to 54, so I can't speak for myself. I never even got into a BG. I sat at Alterac Valley for almost four hours, twice, and didn't get in. I didn't sit at the computer screen that long, I'd just go AFK and come back and move and whatnot to prevent myself from logging off.
I'm back to playing EQ2. If the two are comparable in gameplay, at least I can take comfort in knowing that the EQ2 crowd will be a little bit more mature, and the game is visually stunning when compared to most any game, especially against WoW's cartoonish figures.
So basically it was this
1) Way to easy, too simple. You can have the brain the size of a dog and figure out the end-game encounters. EQ's encounters made you think (a guild spent over six months trying to kill one particular mob. It took lots and lots and lots of strategy.)
2) Lost its fun factor, we'll call it. Just wasn't that fun past 40 or so. Sure the horse is cool, but it doesn't make up for everything else. Now I know people usually say "hey, just play a different character!" Truth is, playing alts was never really my thing to begin with, and I don't really want to spent another bunch of hours levelling up a different character, doing the same quests, etc. Makes it even more pointless, for me at least, that I can't see if my Alliance buddies are online if I made a Horde character.
3) Well I guess thats it, there were probably a few more, but I can't think of them right now since it's 4 in the morning.
Sorry for being long winded.
Maybe its because I played a paladin, haha.
