Nats win opener 8-7. Newcomer Matt Cepicky knocked in three runs. Great game. Can't think of the klast time the Nats put up 8 runs.

How abotu Ryan Drese. Guy has been simpyl incredible since being picked up on the waiver wire. Ranger shoudl have never let him go and shoudl have desiganted him for assigment and let him work out the kinks. He was a 14 game winner last year. But, I am glad we got him. Great pick up. Another reason why Jim Bowden shoudl be in the runnign for GM of the Year.

Chad Cordero picked up his 31st save. Brad Wilkerson was 3-5 and appear to be pulling out of his slump. And, Carlos Baerga his a three run dinger. Whoda thunk it!

Nast 8, Phils 7

Yeah a great win against a potent offense in Philly. Watching Baergra try for home was hilarious. He would have been out by a MILE if the catcher held on to the ball. Everybody in the dugout was crackin on him and Loiaiza was imitating him. Hilarious.

Who pitched in the two innings when the Phillies piled up those runs? Did they come off of Drese? Wow, Baerga hit a bomb? I had this dude's starting lineup figure when I was in like third grade, haha.

Oh yeah, Philly sucks!

No, our bullpen blew it this game. Ayala and Eischen I think it was.

LMAO! I wouldn't exactly call the Phillies offense potent LA. I'd call it moody. When they want to play, they can do amazingly well. When the fans rag on them for bad play, they take their ball (er...well... in this case their bat) and go home. I mean look at the Pittsburgh series! 12 runs one game, 0 the next. Yes the pitcher was good the second day, but they were giving him outs. WHO SWINGS AT THE FIRST PITCH WHEN THE THREE PREVIOUS BATTERS WALKED!?!?!

Lidle has been doing well as of late, so I'm hoping for a strong start, esp. since the bullpen is stretched. (Then again, I was thinking that Tejada was gonna go on a tear... but we all saw what happened last night... all 3.2 or so innings of it) This is a MUST win series for the Phillies (even though I know how the phillies are, i would have NEVER thought we'd have a MUST WIN in July.... but such is the life of a Philiadelphia Baseball fan. )

I'll be at the game today, and its Photo day, so yours truly will be getting a picture with that cutie Chase Utley :gwink:

Come on Phils!!!

Seems like that 12-1 homestand they had was YEARS ago, eh? Man, the Nats have Bowden for 1/2 season and he's done more than friggin Ed Wade's done in 7 YEARS! Grrrr.....
Seriously, if they don't bolster the middle relief, figure out where to play Madsen (closer?middle?starter?), and make a push for a pitcher like Barry Zito (which i know would cost Ryan Howard and a another prospect most likely), they're dead, IMO. I don't picture Wade doing anything, what else is new?
The Phils rise to new levels of fan frustration each year - that's why I prefer the contact sports, anyway! Three weeks from now, Heaven begins... followed by a second dose of Paradise in October - and I ain't talkin' 'bout 'da World Series - man, you can't hip check a dude trying to steal second? C'mon!!
(PG, maybe you could post your pic w/Chase & show what a lucky guy he is ;)

Now THAT is how you play a baseball game!! Lidle came through yet again for the Fightin's but could get the win. I was only able to view Mr. Utley from a far, but the view was nice none the less. The young guys are really picking up the slack and maybe, just MAYBE we'll turn this around. There is still alot of baseball to be played.

It should be known that this year when I am in attendence, the Phillies are 12-1 (The only loss being the debacle against the 16-2 or something close like that to the Mets ) and we're 2-0 against the nats. Hmm.... maybe I need to buy a ticket for tomorrow's game.

Meh, that was depressing. Beatiful pitching by Patterson and nothing to show for it.

once the Nats get Nick Johnson and Church back, the line up will be pretty good. Put Johnson in that 5 spot instead of Baerga and Church in the two spot but keep Carroll in batting 7th or 8th. Send Guzman down to AAA (I wish).

Wilkerson, Church, Vidro, Guillen, Johnson, Castilla, Carroll, Schneider, Pitcher-shouldn't be too anemic for this pitching staff.

Nats gotta give Patterson some run support! What a waste of a great performance.

Well, I am hoping last night was not an enigma, scoring 8 runs, because quite frankly, I can't think of the last time they scored 8 runs. Today they get shutout. Go figure.

Blah. Loaiza has been on fire of late, so let's give him some run support today!

I'd rather they NOT give him run support... maybe I'm the only one... :D

Lieber came out of the game VERY early last outing because he was hit in the elbow with a very hard hit ball. Hopefully we won't see any lingering effects from it. The good news is that the bullpen is more rested. So heaven forbid something happens, we've got a little bit of depth today.

LET GO PHILLIES!!!

awesome AWESOME AWESOME game!! :D Both teams did HORRIBLE with men left on base and RISP, 12 hits and only 5 runs to show for it, not to mention all of the walks we got...

The Phillies should have put this game away in the 8th... or 9th.. or 10... or 11th. But in the end they got the win, and in dramatic fashion. It feels SO GOOD to go into the All Star break taking a series from the first place team (and gaining a game on everyone in front of us!) :D The break couldn't have come at a better time either, the teams a little beat up and we need a break!

I do have a question for all of you Nats fans. Why does your outfield play so deep? I noticed it earlier yesterday and the announcer on my end of the TV were completely baffled by it today (had byrd been playing more shallow, he might have had a chance at Bell, as he's not the fastest member of the team). Has it been successful for them so far or do they give up alot of bloop hits?

Wow great game today and i agree it is nice to take 2 out of 3 versus the Nats. Have to take my hat off to the Nats as no body expected them to do so well. Great season so far just wish they would cool off and hte Phillies would get back into this race
