Looking at ESPN.com, Insider is advertising a story/rumor that the Wiz are after Caron Butler. I don't subscribe, so is their anyone that here that has any info on this rumor?

If you have Insider, please give us a brief summation of what the article says, but by no means are you to cut and paste the article and post it here! That is paid content, and it goes against our rules to post it. Thanks.

The deal rumored is Kwame Brown to the Lakers for Caron Butler. The Lakers should strongly consider this. As for the Wiz I dont see why they need another perimeter player.

I liked the Josh Childress + a first rounder idea, Childress looks like a good player and the Hawks first could be a very high one although I'd imagine the pick could be conditional and arrive several years from now.

Caron Butler would be good for the Wiz I think, he is a nice player who could get a good deal better, I wouldn't mind him at all. Then we could throw some money at a post player who could round out our offense.

Here ya go.

Good scorer. Solid slashing or posting up. Excellent free throw shooter. Solid shooter from about 20 feet in. A poor three point shooter, but he doesnt compound that fact by shooting 3's. Smart, rarley forces a bad shot. Knows the limitations of his game. A very hard worker. Great rebounder. Not a good ball handler. He's a prototype 3 so he would not be able to replace Hughes at the 2, altho he did play some there last year when our GM was on the IR and did a pretty decent job.

Defensively he's not a liability but he's not a shutdown guy like say even a Trenton Hassell. Very quick hands, some of the quickest I've seen, so he should get alot of steals. To me he seems a little slow laterally to ever be considered a good defender. I would say he's just a squeak above average because of his hands. In his defense tho no one on the Lakers played any semblance of defense last year.

I love the guy tho for his attitude. A greeeaaat guy. Very nice and a great role model. Defenitely a person young people should emulate. Always accountable. I'd be reluctant to trade him for his attitude alone because you need good guys like this on your team. Personality wise he is the opposite of say a Kwame Brown.

I like that rundown of him. He seems like a pretty good replacement, especially with how Eddie Jordan likes the slashing type of guards. And rarely forces a bad shot, thats the polar opposite of Larry.

I like Butler I was a huge fan of his when he came out of UConn. The one thing I really like about him is that he can be a leader and is not scared of taking a big shot. By getting him we can move him to SF and shift Jarvis over to SG. That gives us a starting 5 of:

C: Haywood
PF: Jamison
SF: Butler
SG: Jarvis
PG: Areneas

Not a bad lineup at all and can certainly compete in the East especially with the fact that we can still add some solid players with our cap room.

Whit, there is no way the Hawks are going to give up there 1st round pick along with Childress (who was a top 10 pick not more then a year ago) for Kwame. They have enough cap room to straight sign someone like Stromile Swift if they wanted to. They may do a straight swap for Childress and Brown but they will not kick in a 1st rounder. We have to realize that Kwame although is a 7 footer is not going to give us a lot in return. We are not going to get a top 10 draft pick and a good player, its just not going to happen.

Wow, excellent description. Thanks OC.

So, why would they want to trade a guy with a great work ethic and a great attitude for a Kwame??

Might be a good deal for the wiz, here's another article on Yahoo, talking about the proposed trade.

Great analysis OC. :awesomewo I always liked Caron and remember vividly how far he carried UConn in the 2002 NCAA Tourney before bowing out to the Terps. UConn could have easily won the game and Butler, as he did the whole Tourney, carried the team to the Elite 8. UConn was young too.

He has his ducks in a row and will continue to imrpove. I think the Wiz would be a great fit and would love to have him. I'm sure EJ would love to coach him also. Gotta love his go get em attitude and work ethic.

Funny to think that he, Blake and Dixon could end up on the same team. Blake hit the GW shot in that game if I remember right.

That's just what I saw someone else post here as a rumor they heard, I agree it sounds very unlikely.
