Has anyone heard anything about possible camp cuts from other teams that we could bring in to strengthen our roster.
I think we need to help out our TE and DL spots.

Nope. But wouldn't we only look at camp cuts for depth? I can't believe we'd find any starter material there. Hopefully we won't end up with an injury at a critical position that forces us to go journeyman fodder.

We need another solid dt as insurance for griffen maybe we'll finally draft one next year but he pulls too big an anchor to risk him going down without a replacement

That is exactly my feeling it is no as if the DL played awesome last year, yes they played good, but it was Griffen who doinated opponents. Even picking up a big body like Norman Hand wouldn't be to bad.

with daniels having injury issues, does anyone think he could be on his way out...? Just asking

i agree, but on the bright side, if he's 100% healthy, he should be fresh.
I'm still holding out hope for Brandon Noble to make another comeback too.

Supposedly Daniels is at 100% and has been for some time nbow. Barrow was not. And unlike MLB, there are not a plethora of young guys to take Daniels place. Evans and Warren are good but they would be better as situational replacements then full time starters.
At MLB you got Lemar MArshall and Warrick Holdmans who have legitimate claims to the starting spot with darkhorses in McCune and Smith to provide depth and push the starters for playing time.

Daniels had a very good OTA and has looked the best in years - at least according to the articles / notes I've seen. Perhaps this could be a good and injury-free year for him?

On a side note (didn't want to start a complete new thread on this), is Kurt Gouveia going to be with the team during this year's training camp as a coach?

Where did you hear that? I thought he was coaching HS football somewhere.
His son made the all met[VA,DC,MD] team as a senior last year at Stonebridge HS in Ashburn.

I would also like to see us pick up a solid, if not atleast decent reserve DT incase griffen would go down. Ofcourse he played solid last year, and there is no indication that he will falter. Speculating on him going down would be like saying what if Shawn Springs got hurt. Wouldn't you want better depth at the CB position should that happen? We just have to hope that our quality guys hold up and turn in good years. As for the D-Line, this is the unit I am least worried about. Williams has the same guys he had last year, and did a great job. The players we have play to Greg's strength's and that is the D'Line stuff the run 2.3 YPC last year, and the LB's and CB's Pressure the QB. As for picking up Norman Hand.... HELL NO... he used to be a cowboy. VETO

I just was wondering because he was in "intern" coach at last year's training camp. It was a temporary thing I guess, and it would be cool to see ol' Kurt at TC this year. Is he the coach at Stonebridge?

Speaking of camp cuts, does anyone besides me think that we are not going to cut Rod Gardner? I think that if he is not traded in Training camp, that he will be suited up come Sept. 11th. With the trade/cut of Mike Barrow, we should be able to make a few other moves (cutting cory raymer) to free up the cap we need to sign our top picks. Just a thought, but I don't think 50/50 gets cut.

No, I don't know where he coaches. His son actually graduated the season before last so Kurt may not be in this area anymore.
I would like to see Kurt back with the Skins in any capacity, I always liked 54.

He won't be here and if he is, he definitely won't be suited up. He may get to log some time with the flat screen though.

I dont really think there are any plans to have Gardner suit up. That would take a roster spot from someone else, plus Gibbs already had another meeting with Gardner to discuss things, and he said it would be in the best interest of both that they would part ways.
If someone wants him to be in their camp on time, they better sign him this week. after that, maybe one more week waiting for injuries to other receivers, then i dont see any reason to keep him.
on the other hand, if we dont need the cap room, he could sit and stew in a last ditch effort to get something for him. what a waste...it's such a shame to think we are going to release a fairly recent 1st round pick and get nothing for him.

I agree and I think Gibbs is pretty set with the group of WRs we have in place. The interesting thing at WR will be the backup spots to Jacobs, Moss, and Patten. You have Antonio Borwn, James Thrash, Darnerin McCants, and Kevin Dyson. Thats where the real questions at WR lies.

I get the feeling that Gardner's midweek party last season may have been the beginning of the end for him. That spoke volumes about him. If you're gonna be up drinking late in the middle of a game week in a losing season, you better not get caught.

It's funny RW, I mentioned the same thing in a post a few days ago, that the party where ST got into that DUI fiasco wouldn't have happened had 50/50 not wanted to drink 'em up during the middle of an in-season week. Stupid, selfish, the final "red flag" for Gibbs, IMO. If Gardner had been practicing grabbing footballs until 3am instead of bottles, maybe he'd be worth more than a back issue of SI...

How was that selfish on Gardner's part, it was his birthday and he was throwing a party for himself. Maybe Sean shouldn't have been there till the wee hours of the morning drinking. I am not trying to defend these guys here, but Gardner was done in when he kept dropping passes, it was just convienent that he got the blame for throwing party. I am sure other Skins were in attendance and they all managed to make it home without getting in trouble.

I just think it would be nice to be able to sign our picks w/out cutting him. If we can, then we can actually get some value for him when someone's #1 reciever goes down in camp.

I know more than a few on HR.com second that one, Ice - hopefully that's Gibbs thinking, too.

here's an example: if i wanted to have a drinking party on my birthday, which i wouldnt because i dont really care enough about my birthday to throw myself a party, but if i did, and my birthday fell on a wednesday, i'd plan the party for a friday night, because i work monday thru friday. if we had a new kid here at the office (like a rookie Sean Taylor) and everyone knew he missed work because of a party i had, my boss probably wouldnt like that behavior from either of us.
You're right, Taylor shouldnt have gotten caught, and luckily he got away with it (which probably none of us would have after refusing the breath test, which i though was an automatic infraction). you're probably also correct in assuming other veterans were in attendance and they just did not get caught, but Taylor was the only one who missed practice, and it could have been much worse if he had been busted.
so I see Gardner as a bad-hoop-earing-wearing, 50-50-pass-dropping, self-party-throwing, bad-influence kinda dude.

Its an automatic 120 day suspension of driver's license, if you don't request a hearing. If you can request a hearing then you have the opportunity to get it dropped. Which I believe is what happened.
It did happen in MD, right? or was it VA or DC?

After doing some more research it seems that refusal is risky business in most states. If a conviction is secured the penalties are harsher, but it makes it harder to get a conviction. The problem is its not substantially harder to get a conviction, so you usually aren't helping yourself at all. If you have been drinking then your better off submitting to the test and taking the smaller penalty. If you haven't been drinking the breathalyzer should show it.
Bottom line: Taylor got lucky, but not egregiously so.

I agree with the Raymer cut. That's a distinct possiblity. However, there is no way that Gardner suits up, IMO. He's just too far gone.

It turns out it doesn't really matter more states have similar laws about it. It boils down to the same high risk, low reward scenario. But your haven't improved you chances of getting your reward. It was the right choice for him in hindsight, but not a safe bet by any stretch.

I could not disagree more. Taylor is a grown man. He is not a teenager no one made him drink and no one made him drive. I think that placing blame on others for a grown ups own bad decision is how we get people like Taylor. Maybe if he took responsibility for that choice he would no tbe facing prison time in a later choice that he as an adult made. I guess you are going to blame Gardner for him punching a guy or pulling a gun on someone. I am not the biggest Gardner fan but he has absolutely no responsibility for a team mate drinking and driving. And Gardner may not be a top notch reciever but if the only bad thing off the field you can come up with is he through a birthday party where drinking was involved compared to Taylors off the field incidents its pretty tame.

Dropped balls is why Gardner isn`t getting any love from the coaching staff...I`m sure the mid week party didn`t help especially with what happened to Taylor but we can spin it, shake it, or debate it but the bottom line is if Gardner had held on to the rock when it was thrown to him he wouldn`t be in this situation now.I`ve never seen a guy that could go up and make the most acrobatic catch in the world but yet when the ball was thrown directly in his hands or towards his chest he dropped it like it was a hot potatoe.
