With all the speed on this team, who is our fastest player? Coles, Canidate, P. Johnson, Russell, Jacobs, Bailey?:whoknows:

THis topic comes up every once in a while, I'd say Russell, Bailey and Canidate are the fastest. It is fun to think about how fast our team is since Marty.

The fastest time I've found for Jacobs is a high 4.3. I've heard Coles could match that or even better. However I seem to remember a 4.2 mentioned with Russell.

I woudl tend to think at this poitn it woudl be Russell. From what I have heard, he is a small fraction faster than prior to his knee. If that is the case, man this guy is a burner.

I think it's Russell too but Coles, Johnson and Candidate were always one 3 of the fastes guys in the league, so I hope they're right when they say speed kills.

i would say from what i've read that Russell is the fastest but let us not forget that P. Johnson was a world class sprinter. plus you have the reports that coles was blowing away our secondary in the mini camps. i still think DG would give them all a run for their money though lol:honor:

Trung was clocked at 4.25 out of college.
Canidate wasn't widely projected as a first-rounder but offensive guru Martz was too taken with him to risk losing him before the Rams' second-round pick. Most attractive is Canidate's speed -- he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.25 seconds when Martz paid a visit to Arizona.
"Nobody runs a 4.25," Martz said Saturday. "He just kind of took my breath away to be honest with you.
"Canidate will be used primarily to give Faulk a breather in the first and second quarter for a play or two," Martz said. "To put Trung back in there and not skip a beat, especially with the speed that he has, is a big issue for us. It allows us to keep doing what we do on offense."

Coles:
He reportedly is fastest player in FSU history which would be an amazing feat considering that Deion Sanders attended FSU. He is not faster than the dancing Sanders, but he has blazing speed with the rare extra gear to separate or chase down players that few others possess. At his March workout, he ran a 4.37 time, which may move him into the top 100 selections. His development as a receiver has been hindered by multiple suspensions and lack of discipline in many aspects of play.
http://cbs.sportsline.com/u/football/nfl/2000/draft/profiles/laveranuescoles.htm
Russell:
There were some very, very fast times, especially by the wide receivers: Utah's Cliff Russell ran a 4.3; Aaron Lockett of Kansas State, 4.37; Florida State's Javon Walker and Virginia Tech's Andre Davis, 4.37 each.
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2002/brandt_3402.html
Pat Johnson, 5-10, 175, 4.44, Oregon
Although not very well known, Johnson, a former sprinter, is generally considered one of the better up-and coming receivers in the country and was a productive, big play maker for theDucks last season.
After grabbing just 14 passes for 218 yards and three scores in '96,Johnson cranked it up, catching 50 passes for 903 yards and six TDs this season, including a season-best performance against Stanford (8-179-2). Johnson also caught a game-winning pass to beatWashington and had an eye-popping performance vs.Air Force in the Las Vegas Bowl (5-169-2, with the TDs coming from 69amd 78 yards out).
Johnson is a tremendously quick receiver speed with the speed and acceleration to get separationon the deep pass. He is a good leaper and has the ability tomake the difficult catches in traffic and is a dangerous runnerwho can make something happen on his own after the catch.
He is also a dangerous return man with the ability to make defendersmiss. However, with only one productive collegeseason, he lacks playing experience, does not possess idealheight or size. Although showing the toughness to go overthe middle, is not very strong or physical and has somedifficulty getting off the line against press coverage.

Maybe they'll anoint a new Fastest Redskin at training camp, especially since Darrells gone. My guess is it would be between Coles, Russell, Canidate and P. Johnson

Champ runs somewhere around 4.3 in the 40. Of course those are all times run without pads. What a guy runs in pads isn't the same as what he runs in shorts. A lot of guys tend to slow up a bit if they think a free safety is headed their way. Some guys just stop running together. Hell, I don't think I ever saw Willie Gault run over the middle.

my guess would be that Coles would win it. I would have said russell had it not been for his injury.
Johnson is fast, but I don't think he's as fast as coles.
PS- that picture of hutchinson is a freakin riot. I laughed my ass off!

I will still stick to my original guess of Coles...I remember watchinghis blazing speed.
But the best thing is, we have at least 5 guys that "could" win this...nothing wrong with having "too much speed."

This is a key point HY. Spurrier's offense dwells around speed, his whole off-season plan was focused around building speed, and here we are tryiong to determin, out of a group of abotu 5, who teh fastest Skin is. That points to two things...one being...the off-season plan was effective....adn two being...now we are truly seeing a different style Redskin team than we grew up with. We grew up with smash mouth, possestion typw offens,e and now we are moving tot he real fun-n-gun offense. It ought to be an interesting season!

This is a good thing. Our old style no longer worked. I know i personally want Spurrier to do whatever he wants to get "HIS" team assembled. Hopefully he's almost there, or there!

Yes, one of my earlier posts in this thread clocks him AT THE COMBINE w/ a 4.25. The fastest 40 time I ever heard at a combine is Ahman Green's at 4.15. Coles 4.16 or anything below 4.4 is hard to swallow outside of a combine. He's definitely one fast MF'er though. We definitely upgraded speed on this team when a 4.4 sounds 'slow.'

You have to take all those numbers with a grain of salt anyway.
1- none of them are rookies, and the combine numbers are a distant memory
2- a lot of the times a guy will perform above or below his potential at the combine given that it is speed without pads and on turf
3- crowd the field full of guys that want to kill you and 20lbs of pads, and it tends to slow you down.
Regardless we have lots of speed this year, and it shoudl be a lot of fun to watch for a change.

Last I checked, no one runs a 40 yard dash in football. The goal is get in the endzone and not let the others tackle you. If you clutter it full of massive people, and slow people with fast one plugging the holes...you can't go very far without sidestepping. This is why Barry Sanders was thebest ever...yet not anywhere near the fastest ever.
