thanks for posting...
they wont be that bad i think we have 4-5 1st round picks that are going to get to play this year...everyone has forgot about everyone but ovechkin.
building a rookie team instead of stacking a team that might be good for a year or 2 ane then be screwed by the "hard" cap. being smart about it leaving cap room to get used to the new cba and cap system/rules and not have issues.
other teams, pitts for example, are trying to stack the team as much as possible. with this cap setup thats just stupid and the league has been warned that the cap might come down in amount in a year or 2. not up, like most other leagues with salary caps. these teams going crazy are going to hurt themselves in the long run.

The Caps do an awful job drafting and Ovechkin may be the only recent top draftee to end up playing for the Caps this year. It will be similar to Atlanta where they drafted Kovalchuk and scored a lot of goals, but the team around him was so awful that they still were terrible. I don't disagree however with how the Caps are building their team because they need a lot more young talent to build around, but they there was no reason for them to be a player in free agency because they aren't anywhere near the point that free agent acquisitions would make them viable. I mean, jeez, Jeff Halpern is going to be the starting center. He's a 3rd liner on a playoff team.
As for the Pens, they certainly didn't go crazy. Gonchar and Palffy didn't get anywhere near the salary that Neidermayer got and Leclair was a bargain. Unlike the Caps, the Pens have a good deal of young talent and if they perform up to expectations should make the Pens a contender.

ComCast said earlier tonight that the Caps were having Bondra in DC today and are in negotiations of resigning him.
I think thats a good move.
