View Full Version : Misleading Injury Reports?

I'm starting to notice something about how injuries are being reported in the new Gibbs regime, and it is not good. Increasingly, every time there is an injury to a player, we don't get the real story. Whether it's Coles' toe or Lavar being out only "2-4 weeks" last year or Mike Barrow's week-to-week condition that lasted a year or now Taylor Jacobs toe, we just can't seem to count on the actual injury report because it always changes.

So, I wonder why this is. I put a few poll options up there to gauge what the folks at hR think. Is it intentional? I think so.

I don't see the poll

I don't think Gibbs is intentionally doing it. I do have to wonder about our training staff right now. The Barrow misdiagnosis and the Lavar situation has my flags up. But if nothing else happens I will relax. Seems like they did a good job on Rogers...so far.

I chose the first option, unintentional freak ........, because in the case of both Barrow and LaVar, if they had known they would have been IR'ed.
Coles played every week, so there is nothing that was being hidden.
Jacobs was originally pronounced out for a week, with a re-evaluation after said week. Nothing concealed there.

I think Gibbs is used to the old days when players actually played hurt and weren't primadonnas like todays players are...just a thought. :)

i vote for another reason....its the referees, they're always screwing us....j/k

I'm leaning toward a string of misdiagnosis but RRs post makes sense so I haven't actually voted

I feel like the trainers are sugar coating it a little bit to the FO to make themselves look competent, which they obviously are not. This has been eating at me since Gibbs got back. Now every time I hear about an injury, I just write the player off for 4 weeks. I can't believe Griffen's arm healed so quickly, as I assumed that this was another understated injury that would leave our best DL out indefinately, like Daniels was last year. They also didn't present any good reason why Portis sat out the Steelers game. Then there's Daniels, Barrow, Lavar, Coles, Rogers, Noble. . . . . something is wrong somewhere.

I find that it is hard to take anything gibbs says seriously. He will brag on a player and then cut him. It is hard to tell when he actually means what he says or if he is just putting on a show. I understand the reasoning but it is kind of annoying. I would assume it is the same with the injuries, no need to show all your cards publicly. But as a fan i would like to know the exactly what the deal is with injuries, and when he gives an opinion on a player it would be nice to know if he means it or not, but hey i guess that is why he makes the big bucks.

I said he did intentionally do this. My thought is that Gibbs has always been sneaky when it comes to his lineups and gameplans, preseason or regular season, so I think at least some of the injury info is misdirection. I feel the LaVar situation was a fluke, but my suspicions on Barrow in particular was probably misdirection since Pierce was playing so well. Just my two cents folks!

Go Skins. 3 more weeks!!!!!!

When has Gibbs bragged on someone and then cut them?

I think our medical staff is inept. Throwing Lavar in near the end of the season last season was a mistake and he paid for it.

i think there is something strange about it, but i cant put my finger on it. maybe a new coaching staff is reluctant to send anyone away to specialists for an extended period of time because the classroom time is so critical for learning the new systems. i think Barrow saw a bunch of specialists all over the place, including Canada, during the offseason, but during the year, he was here to help the youngsters. Lavar may have needed the classroom time.

Maybe Bubba Tyer(?) is too old. maybe dbiggs is right about primadonnas.

Maybe it's all coincidence.

barrow is an example. Up until the very last moment he was making flowery comments on barrow. He is never ever critical of a player to the public. Throughout the season last year when Brunell was playing, after every game when brunell was throwing lame ducks and was playing so horrible, he would always go on and on about how great brunell was. Then he switched qbs. I understand that he doesn't want to say stuff to the public, but i would rather he say nothing at all then or at least not sit there and say this guy is so tough and played with such courage.

I do think though that our medical staff seems to have done poor follow up on a string of players and this isn't gibbs related. They need to take a more conservative approach and stop looking for the quick recovery option. Because when you look at Lavar's experience last year i think if he was slowed down significantly when he first had a problem he would have played a good part of the season. You could look at phillip daniels, who maybe needed another week of rest or at least regular practice/training so he didn't get reinjured so fast. There were a few others like that last season. This is a new season and so far in pre-season gibbs and staff seem to be taking an ultra-conservative approach which i think is smart. I would rather a player miss one extra game then miss a whole season, i guess those decisions are hard to make though.

maybe he likes the guy? he did the same for tim hasselback before we cut him....its not that they cant play here. Its that we dont have room for the players. I am sure gibbs wants to see them keep playing, tim got signed by the giants after gibbs talked him up a lot. i think of it as a good thing, he is trying to help, it shows his character.

oh i agree. maybe he was trying to up trade value or whatever. my point is only that in public gibbs is rarely ever critical of a player so it is hard to know what he is really thinking, just kind of a waste to listen too cause in every interview all the players are great...
