This is a subscription article so I can not provide a source or quote directly but here is a brief rundown of the points from the 8-22-05 prtactice.

1.) Arrington and maybe even Noble may play on Friday against Pitt. Both are doing more in practice, espescially Lavar.

2.) Artrell Hawkins is on IR (done for season)

3.) DMAc stayed after practice with a few scruybs to work on special teams tackling (good luck Dmac)

4.) Bowen and Clark both did light running and both are to be back Friday

5.) Tup, Nic Clemons, and Harris out with minor injuries.

6.) Samuels looks good, totally healthy for the first time since 2001

7.) Portis practiced unsure for Friday.

I don't think Antrell will survive final cuts, or can you not cut players on IR? I don't know. Anyways, I'm glad to hear LaVar is almost back to being in game shape, as he can be the key element that pushes the D up to number one.

I was hoping to see/hear Portis for Friday.

It'll be good to see Lavar back out on the field.

We cant cut him if he's on IR. I was looking forward to seeing him play for us. I remember him from the bengals and he was a decent CB. I think he wouldve made for great insurance should injury hit us(at CB) during the regular season. He was a much better corner than Rufus or Ade Ohno.....

How good is this guy for us to save a spot for him then? Is this a situation similar to Walt Harris [injured one year and nurse him back to health and rely on him the year after]? What role would he play, starter or nickel back?

Thanks for the summary, I am curious if there was anything in there about Taylor Jacobs' progress?

That is sad to hear with Hawkins I really wanted him to push Rogers for the nickel back spot, now Rogers has it won hands down. I thought that you could waive an injured player as long as you gave him an injury settlement? DMac finally realizes that non starting WR's have to play special teams, it may be to late to learn them now. Anyway some good info there thanks for sharing.

This was at the bottom of the article about the 49ers lineman who died.

From the WP
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/22/AR2005082201232.html?nav=rss_sports/redskins

The Redskins placed cornerback Artrell Hawkins on the reserve/injured list, essentially releasing him in advance of an injury settlement. Vice President Vinny Cerrato said that the two sides have five days to work out a settlement. Hawkins hadn't practiced since the first week of training camp because of a hamstring injury. Before the injury, Hawkins -- who was expected to provide depth and contribute on special teams -- seemed to have an edge in the competition for fourth cornerback.

Doesn't look like they are holding a roster spot for Hawkins like was first thought.....

Nothing at all...which is worrisome to me. That usually means Keim did not see him practice at all.

I wouldn't even risk playing Lavar, Brandon, Clinton or whoever else was injured. It is a meaningless preseason game. The only one who really needs the snaps is Patrick Ramsey, for obvious reasons.

It's good to hear about DMac practicing his special teams play, and it's awesome to finally see LaVar in a game, even if it's limited. I just hope he doesn't go for that dreadful facemask anymore. Go back to the shield, LA.

Good report for the most part. Lavar will definetely be great to see. Him and Samuels could very well have amazing season reminding us why we took them both so high.

By the way, I am continously surprised to see how resilient and injury free is Ray Brown, the rest of the players ought to learn something from whatever he does and copy his workouts and routines, the man is a rock.

I would play Lavar and Noble but they would have a quick hook. They need some game time after their injuries, espescially Lavar.

I definitely would stop playing them when the Pitt 2nd stringers come in. All we need is some scrub trying to make the squad torpedo blocking one of them.

I think Portis should sit too, however for Ramsey I hope he starts. IMHO the book on Ramsey cannot be written until he plays with all the pieces Gibbs has assembled for him.

Totally concur. It's seems like these preseason injuries are becoming more prevalent around the nfl. Jansen was enough last year. We don't need anymore whatsoever.

Are you talking about Mike Barrow? Because Walt Harris played in every game last season.

He needs to get healthy and stay that way. Jacobs can be very good in this system and become a very good 3rd reciever.
