View Full Version : why is tre johnson so disrespected?

First off, he comes back to the skins...works his way back into shape, and was our best guard late in the season.
Then we go and buy Thomas and Fiore...and get Dockery.
We then give Thomas the #77 and tell Johnson "tough luck" (I actually don't know what happened there, but Johnson is a redskins vet and should keep that number)
Now I see a thread about Dockery being our 3rd guard pushing Johnson to 4th. How is this? I actually think Johnson is better than Fiore, and befoer his injury was the best damn guard in the league. Johnson is still a very good guard, but why is it no one give him respect?

I think it was based on an article that mentioned Dockery impressed the coaches alot. As far as the jersey goes, Tre left the team for several seasons and then returned. I don't know if he's still considered a Redskins vet with all the changes (coaches, players, etc.). I still consider him one though and feel he should have the jersey #77. I'm also thinking Spurrier could care less about a number a player wears.

All I remember is Dockery being called our third tackle but lets hope there is no injuries so neither will see the feild this season

If the rumors are true and Fiore takes moore's spot...then one of those will have to be a starter. I hope it's Johnson.

As it was posted in the other thread, when Thomas was signed, Tre wasn't on the team. He had yet to be resigned. So, Thomas was issued the #.

IMO, Tre doesn't own the number 77. I don't understand the big deal that the fans are making this into.

Also IMO, Tre has a problem with being injured a lot of his time here. I believe that is why he's "disrespected", if you will. I like Tre, but I want the best 5 OL on the field. If that means that Dockery is better, than I want him on the field. If Tre comes in and earns the starter pos, then I hope he's on the field.

He's had only one major injury...other than that, he was relatively healthy.
Just because a man hasn't been signed to a contract, does not mean he's still not a member of the skins. He's still a skin until he signs elsewhere or retires. That's not a good excuse as to why Thomas got the number over Johnson. (not blaming you...just saying)

I don't recall...not that it's never happened, but it's been so long I can't recall.

jsarno, I guess we'll just agree to disagree with each other.;)

But, I feel like if your not under contract with a team, you're not on the team. Thats why Johnson didn't get the #.

OMT, why are some people saying that Thomas should have compensated Johnson for the #? Johnson doesn't own the #77. LOL. Now, if Johnson was under contract when Thomas came here then yes, some money could/should have traded hands. But thats not the case.

My question is Does Tre really want the number 77?

You're right...I think we'll have to agree to disagree here. Oh well. To each his own.

I don't think that Thomas should have to compensate Johnson since it was done by the team. That's just stupid. It's not Thomas's fault that he was offered the number and took it. I think that the Skins are to blame...not Thomas.

Let's just say that he didn't just roll over and say "here you go Randy".

Tre has problems staying healthy. If he has gotten back in shape, he will get his share of time on the playing field.

Well said 284ever. Tre definately gives us a good bit of depth....something we haven't around here in a while.

I was one of those that suggested compensation. I said it would have been a nice gesture by Thomas not required by anyone. So leave me alone!!!! :twak:

Tre was good for us, but come on, I am not going to elevate him above others. I am bnot going to put him on the same pedestal as i woudl Mark May, George Stark, Jim Lachey, and Joe Jacoby. Please. Tre had a few good seasons, but he also had a health problem.

I am looking to the future. Dockery is the future and i bet he grabs a starting role. Tre is slow. He will provide excellent depth, but his stime to start are gone.

This will all be decided in training camp. The Skins re-signed Tre Johnson so they are obviously willing to give the guy a chance. So am I and I'd love it if he won a starting spot because I do have a soft spot for him. I'm not a fool, though. Any time that uses Tre Johnson as a starter better have a pretty good backup ready because Tre doesn't do 16 game seasons. He just doesn't.

WOOOO, who's comparing him to those guys????
I just think we Tre can do better than a late draft pick that may or may not pan out. Tre is solid...not spectacular, but solid. He has the potential to be great if he can return to his 99 form.

I've heard tre lost weight. Of course he was slow when we signed him...he wasn't playing therefore he was out of shape. I can't believe how much disrespect Johnson is getting for Dockery. I think we are thinking Dockery is a stud when he's more of a project. If he plays this year, our line will not be nearly as tough.

Its nobody's fault that Thomas has #77!

Its not Thomas' fault...as he WAS a Skin at the time the number was issue to him...and TRE was not.

From what I've heard, Tre doesn't have a big problem with this...so why should we?

Case Closed...

OMT, Dockery wasn't a late round draft pick. We took on the first day in round 3.

Sorry...I meant to say later round...point is he was projected in the 4th round, and wasn't good enough to be considered a top pick.

This will be decided in training camp, guys. If Tre Johnson 1999 shows up, there is no way they'll be able to keep him out of the starting lineup. However, if he pulls a hamstring on the second day...

Let's hope that doesn't happen, and he is in playing shape.
