As far as the last two days at linebacker, he's been a pleasant surprise. He looks like he's back. He looks like he's ready to play."
that gets me excited for this game.. so many things to watch for.. the 3rd preseason game has always had a regular season like feel to it as opening day creeps in. hopefully we'll see the Arrington we've been looking for.. but i'm going to be nervous about him tweaking the knee again.. *knock on wood*

The Redskins released safety Tony Dixon and linebacker Joe Tuipala...
Wide receiver Taylor Jacobs was able to jog for the first time since severely spraining his right toe in a scrimmage three weeks ago.

If he stays healthy along with every other player on defense then tell all the people who feared last year's #3 defense they ain't seen nothing yet.

Now he can ease into the Opening game, instead of last minute hurries. Here's to a much healthier team this season. I let the starters play together, then when you take them out, take them all out. That way we can avoid freaky moves by some of those lessor uncoordinated rookies, or over zealous players attempting to get on a roster in pure desperation.
The experienced guys know how to move around better, use common sense.

One thing I've found myself wondering is this:
LaVar has always been known to free-lance from time to time. Sometimes the results are great, sometimes not so much. The style of our defense last year with the different blitzes and all that jazz often seemed chaotic but obviously there was a great deal of structure behind it.
Do you guys think that in this scheme there is room for LaVar's free-lancing? How will Greg Williams react if Arrington gives up a big play as a result? Can #56 actually settle in and accept his role on any given play or is that just part of what makes him so great?

Williams will reign Arrington in, strong coaches like Marvin Lewis were able to corral him. Also though Arrington's free lancing hurt the team before because once a playing got past him the rest of the guys were such poor tacklers or just generally awful. This unit flies to the ball so hard and fast that I think it won't hurt us nearly as much, but I also think Lavar will be in the right place at the right time the vast majority of the plays.
He's heard all the criticism there is to say about him and he's out to prove everyone wrong and truly dominate. If he stays healthy he will come as close as he possibly can to reaching his potential this year.

It will work because Lavar or Washington (maybe both) will be blitzing on almost every play. GW is going us Lavar to showcase his strengths (blitzing and blowing up plays) and minimize his weaknessses.

Lavars strength is definitly blitzing...hes so fast he can come off the edge before the backs can poick it up...he has 11 sacks from the linebacker spot a few years ago...

Actually, that was the year he played DE on passing downs that he got the 11 sacks.

I don't think Lavar's free-lancing style will be very bad at all. After all, we have at least four other Pro Bowl capacity players on that D who can cover plays and provide insurance in case he messes up, and everybody else on the field have been coached by some of the best defensive minds in the league.
We'll be fine.

Correct. It was the year he made the play (from the DE spot) on Kurt Warner and the Rams to beat them.
Also, the year he played under Marty, he was almost exclusively used in coverage and he had a career high in INTs. That season also included the season turning play against the Panthers where I was praying and mad at Skins fans for boo-ing...
Ah the memories.

No, I saw it, and I think it's good. The grind of going against O-linemen again should get him in shape and help the pass rush at the same time.

I don't see that as a surprise, last time he played, in the SF game, it was at DE. That is probably where he will get in most his reps until he is in playing shape.

QB's beware!!!!
I cannot wait to see him back!! I love LaVar even though I get frustrated with him sometimes too.... But, man, to have him back will be sweet. I mean the last memories I have of him playing at full strength was when he picked up and slammed Mike Vick in that preseason game last year. Oh yeah, Vick left the game right afterwards.... Mora wasn't risking Vick to another blitz after that!!

Thats a good philosophy...I'm stealling it.
I'll also say that there are certain PLAYERS I "support" on other teams as well. I could care less how their teams do, and I, in one instance, hope their team does horribly. But I wish positive press and quality production for the PLAYER(when they are not playing the Skins).

I know what you mean. I've liked McNabb ever since the Fithadelphia fans booed him on draft day. I thought it was class-less, but I certainly do not want McNabb's team to do well at all. I was actually hoping he would leave in free agency and go to the AFC.

I can't root for the Texans, Bills, other teams' players...ANYONE other than the Skins. I may respect the Favre's, the McNabb's, the Harrison's, the Tomlinson's - but I sure as hell will NOT root for them at all! Just can't do it. I suppose the ONLY time i could is if it would benfit the Skins directly, such as Miami knocking off Dallas in week 16 to help lock up a playoff spot for us, etc...
I think I actually can't stand any other team, and I wouldn't have it any other way ;)

I can relate to this story: this year, my wedding anniversary is on Dec. 18th, which is a Sunday.
As part of "her" gift to me [who am I kidding: its really my gift to myself that she allowed]
I got tickets to the 'Zona game[I live in AZ] the week before and will be at home for the real anniversary date.
Sorry yours happens to be on a game night, I could relate to thinking what I would have felt if I had to choose between a
1 appearance every 4 years game or honoring the wife on the same day, sends shudders down my back.
Good luck Man, any anniversary that ends in a 0 or 5 is difficult to get out of. If she's a keeper, watch the first stringers play and then go out with her would be my advice. Of course the game starts 7 PM your time if I am not mistaken, either watch the game at home, tape the game and watch it when you get home, or start by taking her to a sports bar for some liquids.

For some reason, I think the club will have the resources to keep him here by then, and if not, there are other linebackers in the NFL.
But that's what, three seasons for now? Let's just worry about the season we have coming up right now and not worry about what will happen in free agency three years down the road.

If LaVar returns to his form, which I think he will, he adds a big dimension to this defense. Teams have to plan around his possible blitzes, because he is so fast.
As far a free lancing, I think he has matured and is hungry for action after almost a full season off.
Can he alter the game? - yes, he is capable of that. Will he be totally dominant on defense? That is the million dollar question.

I see LaVar and the rest of the defense playing with some attitude and fury against Pittsburgh tonight. Why?
1. LaVar thinks people are considering him "washed up" or "not meeting his potential". He's got something to prove.
2. The media has already crowned the Steelers as this seasons probable #1 defense. Meanwhile, all you hear about the 'skins defense is how we lost Smoot and Pierce. So the underdog wants to show the big dawg some hard football.
3. Some of the bubble players will get less play time, causing less embarrassing plays on defense. Jimoh on ST only!
