Guys, hR will be beginning a new series of threads and articals leading up to the beginning of Training Camp. Today, we start off with the QB position.

We already know who will be the #1 QB heading into training camp. Mr. Patrick Ramsey. It seems like a lot of outsiders aren't that impressed with Ramsey. They will be surprised at the type of QB he'll become. He has poise, a very strong arm, and he seems ready to take the next step. Articles have said that he's determined to succeed. He also has what it takes to get to the next level.......dedication. He's hitting the play book and working very hard.

Rob Johnson has the #2 position pretty much to himself. I didn't like this pickup during the offseason. The only move our FO made that I didn't care for. I would have been just as happy keeping Danny Wuerffel as the #2. There really isn't a large difference in skill between those two.

Now, here is where things get tricky. Who makes the team as the #3 QB? The rookie QB who we drafted in the 7th round, Gibran Hamdam? Or, do we decide to go with the undrafted QB in Brad Banks?

I think Banks will win the 3rd QB position. If he doesn't make the team as the #3 QB, he'll find a spot on the team somewhere. Could he become the Redskins version Pittsburghs Randel El?

As the writer, I specified my position ont he third qb spot. Hamdam will most likely win the job. He wa sdrafted over Banks because he impressed Spurrier in private parctices. His size and arm strength make him attractive to this offense. Regardless, both will be project and most likely leave the NFL at some point in there careers as career third string QBs, but I think Spurrier may see soemthing in Hamdam, and that is why he was a surprise pick.

Great article!! I am one of those that thinks Banks will get the 3rd QB spot and Hadman will be in PS. I just feel he is too raw and it will show in preseason.

I also hated the Johnson signing. I believe O'Donnell and Petersen and a couple other better guys were out there at the time. Inevitably, there will be quarters or games during the season where we'll need a competent backup. Hopefully Johnson embraces his role and can handle the relief pitcher role better this year than last when he looked awful a few times subbing for Brad Johnson in TB. Especially that Steeler MNF game where he held onto the ball and got mauled several times in a row. Yikes.

As for the third QB, I don't have a strong opinion. Actually, I'd like to bring Wuerffel back for that spot. Wasn't that still a possibility? One of the other two guys can go on the practice squad. Neither will make an impact this year or in the future IMO.

Heck be totally truthful, I woudl have rather had Ken Graham return than Ron Johnson, but I guess we will see how it goes.

What is the deal with D. Wuerffel? Is he on another team? Or do we still have him on our roster?

I believe he's a free agent. Just not sure..

Or we will be disappointed. One thing I notice living miles away from any redskin propaganda is that there is always something good to say about every player that the skins ever had. I still have my doubts about Ramsey, but I think the system can make him good. When everyone in the world sees one thing, they may be more right than we are. (just a small observation..hopefully he'll be a stud and we can say "nah, nah, nah, nah" :moon1:

Only by default...I hope we don't have to look for a stud qb come next offseason.

I completely agree...and Danny never really had a shot. He played well in one of the games he started with 3 td's...and he was a massive stud in preseason leading the country in passer rating, yet matthews got the nod. :crazy: Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

BANKS! You can't teach the athleticism. Hamdam only has an arm...he will never (I repeat) NEVER be a even a decent NFL qb. There aer plenty of guys with arms in the world, this guy is not a player. Banks was second in the Heisman for a reason...if you're going to work with someone...work with him. He needs a little seasoning, but he could become a flutie, someone like him.

I agree here. NBanks has more overall athleti ability... and this league dictates QBs like that. I think he may be a surprise in the future. I hope anway.

I like the Rob Johnson signing. He is a veteran with starting experience. He will be an asset on the sidelines and in the locker room. In any chain of command (sorry for the military in me coming out) a person needs a mentor who is not a supervisor (coach). Johnson has far more field and camp time then Woe-ful and he will be a quality back-up. Now, on the flip side. If the "mentor" relationship doesnt evolve, shame on PR and RJ. It should.

I agree with the conetnof your post, but not the personnell. I woudl have preferred just to see Wuerffel or Graham. Heck, I guess I am partial to Graham. I remember two years ago when he had to come in and sub for Banks and he ended up whipping up Denver.

I disagree here. Johnson will not be a whole lot of a benefit in the Spurrier offense. Fact is Ramsey would be teaching Johnson. Johnson is not a smart veteran, just because you've been around the league for a few years doesn't mean you know what you're doing. (sorry...I see Johnson as an idiot)
Danny Wuerffel knows the system...even if you think he sucks on the field...he can teach the system. The "chemistry" key comes in here..and Johnson will hurt us more than help us.

P.RAMSEY: traditionally I'm a skeptic like Jsarno, but on Ramsey I believe & am drinking the Kool-aid. Let me in the cult. The speed he throws the ball is as good as anyones in the league.

R.JOHNSON: he was dubious as a starter but as a backup he's fine. How good do you think the backup going to be?? When Chad Hutchinson, Rodney Peete, Gus Frerotte, Jeff Blake are all starting in this league.

G.HAMDEN: I believe the writing is on the wall, when the spent a 7th round pick on him. He's the #3 guy. I believe he will be the second coming of Jeff Ruttledge - a carreer 3rd stringer who hold stabilizes the ball holding assignment.

B.BANKS: Banks is a roll of the dice. He only stays if he knocks our socks off. He's worth the chance.

I'm drinking the kool-aid too, because it's forced! I have no choice...Ramsey isn't ready, but he COULD develope into something special...and right now, that's our only hope. So make room on the bandwagon!

you make a VERY good point. However, Spurrier has a quick trigger finger, and I don't want to see musical chairs at the QB spot again. Johnson has proven he can step in...not start. We need to live or die with Ramsey at the controls...good or bad.

This was a waste of a pick, and I don't think we'll carry 4 qbs, so this guy needs to go!

I can't believe that there are some people who want Danny Woeful back. Rob Johnson is a much, much better qb that Woeful is(look at the numbers). I hope the guy falls off the edge of the earth and we never have to hear his name again.

Problem is, the numbers don't and can't tell anything. Danny was never truly named the starter despite his amazing preseason. I don't think Johnson ever lead the country in passer rating at any time, preseason or not.

Danny did not have an entirely amazing preseason. He flat out sucked during his stint in the Steelers game. The decision to start Matthews over him was the correct and obvious one IMO.

I wish we would have kept Sage instead of Woeful
