I just don't see how Denver could not use him this year. They got a whole bunch of washed up former greats. Why not a washed up former HOF?

The greatest receiver ever. It's good to see him finally hang them up.

Good...the best player ever at his position should not sink in depth charts such as Seattle and Denver...Im glad he ended his career, even though he should have after Oakland, IMO...

Yeah, there seem to be a lot of controversies over who is the greatest of all time at some other offensive positions, but there are absolutely none when it comes to wide receiver. I guess the real question when it comes to the GOAT for WR is who is after Rice?

When he looks back on his career he will realize he did everything a guy could do. Having said that, he probably should have retired after Oakland. Who gets in to the hall of fame first, Jerry Rice or Art Monk?

Snyder, break out the wallet and hire Jerry to come teach A.Brown how to catch.

Actually, that's an awesome idea. Jerry would be a great WR coach.
In any case, one of the greatest careers in the history of the game is over.

That's what I always thought Rice should do instead of play so long. If he wanted to stay near the game, he should have taught the young guys as a coach. I think he would be a great coach, he's a stickler for that type of stuff.

He was a great player, but he hung around too long.
Too bad he hung around long enough to break Brian Mitchell's all-time yardage records.

heh, Rice didn't have much luck teaching the Seahawks how to catch.
Not for me...Art Monk...Period.
just for clarifications, you think monk is the best after Rice and not the best overall, right?

Just shown Rice's Top 10 on ESPN - Loved the one-handed catch against the Rams. Probably down to Rice that Steve Young made the Hall of Fame.
Rice & Monk also showed that you didn't have to be a dick-head with an ego the size of Texas to play wide receiver...

Wow, about time. he is only 5 or 6 years too late. I can't get behind one of the most over hyped football players of all time and like Smith, a guy I think hung around to pad his stats. Very selfish.
Goodbye and good riddance Mr. Rice.

See, that kills me when people say that. I don't think any player from the the past 20 years (especially offensive players) can be compared to the past. The rules changes have simply changed the game too much.
Rice was a great. Rice was phenominal... but I think Rice forgets he played on some seriously great all-time teams. I don't often hear him give credit to the other players and coaches that contributed to his success or talk about being blessed to play with TWO Hall of Fame QBs. He certainly wasn't a jerk like Moss or Owens and I enjoyed watching him play, but I hate it when crusty old players hang around too long just to pad stats... If you love the game, fine, but I am not convinced that Jerry was doing out of a love for football.

Sorry yes. Rice is first all time, MOnk the 2nd for me.

Even though it was past his time, it is still hard to watch a player like him that did things the right way his whole career and gave all he had to the game retire. Always a very emotional scene. It just wasn't right to see the Broncos backdrop behind him however.
Now lets just hope Monk gets in the hall before Rice and Cris Carter become eligable. It is time the 2nd best all around WR EVER gets what he deserves. I just fear it will be Irvin before him  .

Its about time Rice. You and Mr. Jordan just don't know when to say when. However, I've lost a lot of respect for you for asking Steve Largent about wearing #80 last year. IMO, that was a very arrogant gesture. However, there's no doubt that you are the greatest WR to ever play.

Jerry didn't want to play special teams, but then again, neither did Darnerian McCants.

I havent heard a single argument that he wasnt the best WR ever. He hold something like 45 records. He will go down as the best, and will be a first time ballot into the HOF.
