View Full Version : Rookies - are they signed?

I assume our rookies have not been signed yet, plus I haven't heard anything about the progress of their contracts (or read anything for that matter).
I would assume Dockery and Hildebram should be easy, but my only concern is with Jacobs. He was a 2nd rounder so maybe that should ease my concerns.
I just don't want any holdouts going into camp.

The problem with Jacobs might be that he was projected to be a first round pick so he might want first round money, but i hope this is never a problem.

Projections and where you actually go are two distinct matters. He and/or his agent would be complete idiots to take that type of approach. I alos tend to think that he wouldn't want to feel the ire of his former college coach in regards to not being in camp on time.

I don't know if Dockery would be the type to do this, but since alot of coaches are very happy with him and some people are currently saying he will be a starter come September. I wonder if he might push for more. I hope he doesn't cause I beleive he could help the line, but only if he doesn't miss a day of training camp. We can't have rookies falling behind.
I guess the same could be said for Jacobs.

I can't see any of our three draft picks holding out this year. Especially Jacobs and Dockery. They can be starters this year if they get a full TC under them.
I know its a weird concept but why don't these guys get into camp and then prove themselves to the coaches that they deserve more money. I'm aware that they'll be under contract already but, come on. Earn it first.

Jacobs i in a place similiar to Smoot, where he will want more based on where he was to have gone instead of where he went, but with him being a Gator, it may not be a problem

They both need to be ready to go on day #1 with no exceptions. I hope them and their agents understand the magnatude of rookies missing the start of trainning camp. It could have a devastating effect.

Excellent point Shabba. Plus, its important to be in TC on time so you don't piss off the coaching staff. If you get into Spurriers dog house, it seems very hard to get out. If Ramsey would have been in TC on time, he may have been our starter last year beginning the season. Of course, he may not have been either since we had the Gator flunkies......

BTW, agents are the devil.:devil2: I know its their job to get their guys the most money they can, but at the same time its their job to get them into TC on time. Or that should be a priority.

Jacobs should in no way be looking for first round money. You are paid on where you went not where you should have went. Both he and Dockery should get their butts in camp on time so that they can contribute to this team on day #1.

I agree 100%. Jacobs can't argue for anything more than mid-second round money. I feel for him that he fell so far, but the fact is that it happened. Life goes on for him, and I KNOW he won't want to piss off Spurrier by missing TC. We all know how Spurrier handled Ramsey's training camp delay.
On a side note, I'm kind of glad Ramsey held out for the "type" of contract he wanted. Ramsey wanted provisions put into his contract that would give him more money if he became the starter. Well...he is NOW our starter, and there will be no "beef" for him asking for "starting money" now. No distractions makes a better QB...

Yeah getting into Coaches doghouse ain't a smart move. I have seen it happen over and over through the years. Not only that but your teammates start looking at you funny for missing parts of camp.

Another point is these guys are at positions that we have depth at. Missing TC will only hurt their chance of starting. In Jacobs case he would fall from the 3rd WR to maybe the 4th or 5th. Dockery would just be another backup. So I am pretty sure they wont be hold outs.

I can't see how this could be much of a problem. The number of contract disputes with rookies who are not first round picks are miniscule. Virtually all the problems happen with the guys who go in the first 30 or so picks.
The Redskins, I presume, are waiting for a few deals to be done for the players in front of Jacobs so the slotting system can begin. I'd be very, very shocked if any of our draft picks [all three of them] miss time because of a contract dispute.

i dont see any of these guys missing camp. neither have any leverage. like most of you have said, hold outs are normally guys in the first round. they better get their money whie they can. plus, if they really think they have a chance to be a contributor right away, they better get their behinds to camp on time. on a side note, i hear that the jets and their 1st rounder robertson are far apart on a deal and that he wants mike williams (OT, Buffalo) type money which i believe was a 6 year deal worth 44 mil. that is more money than we paid for coles, plus robertson is an unproven rookie.

If they end up paying more then we did for Coles I will laugh my ass off. They put us down for overpaying for Coles, yet they would spend 2 #1's plus more money. :twak:

Miss camp? That woudl be a huge mistake for Dockery or Jacobs.
