Here is a decent article on Brunell. I think (hope) that this hits our situation right on the head.

Sorry if this was already posted. I looked, but didn't see anything anywhere else.

Nice post. I guess Simms doesn't bash, I'll put him on my "good" list for now.

Plenty of arm left? Maybe he meant plenty of left arm.

If Mark can still bring it, then why all of the hitches, hooks and screens after Patrick went out?

Good read, and that's coming from a former qb great. We have to cross our fingers he can return close to his old form and get the job done. All we need is 21-24 points a game. Why is that so difficult with our offensive talent?

That's what I'm concerned about also. It is imperative that Gibbs calls downfield passes regurlarly and Brunnel connects on them, or we may visit some of that horrid 2004 offense.

Something that is lost in all of this is that Brunell threw an INT against the Bears too. He was saved by the PI call. The ball was probably going to be picked anyway, as Brunell threw it into double coverage.

I am curious as to what Joe will do if Brunell gets hurt. Ramsey or Campbell?

Well the play calls are all Gibbs & co. responsibility. Brunell showed plenty of zip on his passes in preseason, so he may have a little something left in his tank. Like I have said in other post, Gibbs was playing not to lose on sunday (once Brunell came in), rather then playing to win. That has to change or we will see a lot of replays from the 04 season.

Even with his feelings about Pat, for the time being, I have no doubt he gets the nod. No doubt in my mind. Campbell is not ready to play especially at Dallas or anywhere close to this early.

You can also count on another 6-10 season. Portis is going to have 8 guys in the box again.

yea ur rite our offense has plenty of talent and if bruneel has plenty off arm strenght and accuracy and stays healthy the whole year, then we will be in the playoff hunt b/c our d is already great

What everybody is losing sight of, is that Brunell has not played with the first string offense until the first game of the season. His timing was off due to not throwing to Patten and Moss. That is some serious speed and moves, as well as a difference in height. I don't like making excuses, but that one is valid.

Pittsburgh had the ball for a total of 52 plays on Sunday, they only threw it 11 times and still averaged 5.0 yards a carry with a running back starting his first regular season game.

Atlanta had the ball for a total of 67 plays on Monday, they only threw it 23 times and still averaged 4.9 yards a carry against the Eagles.

Now us, 68 plays - 25 passes - 4.1 yards a carry, and we probably played against a better defense that the other 2.

Good running teams, run the football even with 8 in the box, its harder thats for sure but thats when you see the RB's break the big runs, all he needs is a little daylight.

Good stats. I've noticed with the Chargers that Tomlinson will get his carries, yards, and stats while constantly facing 8 in the box. Marty doesnt care, everyone knows he wants to run it, always has, even back in the day with that huge dude Christian Akoye (?) or before that with Byner. Gibbs did the same with Riggins, Rogers, Joe Washington, Metcalf, Ricky Irvins, etc. Everyone on both teams was piled up at the line for that famous run by Riggo against Miami in the super bowl. You cant always trick them...sometimes you have to just line up and beat them.

Brunell himself said that he was trying to throw the ball 10 yds further down the field, but that he wasn't warmed up yet and it didn't make it. I believe that he will make that pass this week, as he will be spending a lot more time with the receivers during practice.

my thoughts exactly. The screens came back like Georgia on a hot summers night. If he has alot left? Why 70 yards on 2.5 qtrs??

Why would you air it out when you're ahead, their O can't do anything, and you just want to run the clock out?

And by the way, it worked.
