View Full Version : A word about Dr. Z and Peter King

These two hacks, have not only openly argued against Art Monk being properly Enshrined among the Greatest to have ever played the game in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but last season, prior to the end of the voting process, openly campaigned against Sir Arthur in their respective articles.

I say enough is enough, and I urge all Skins fans to do the same. Here is my suggestion:

Boycott Sports Illustrated until justice is served. As long as Peter King and Dr. Z remain employed by SI OR as long as Art Monk remains on the outside looking in, don't read or worse...PURCHASE Sport Illustrated. I plan to write SI to let them know that while I once was a loyal subscriber, the recent irresponsible, non-objective and blatent abuse of their respective Hall of Fame votes will cause me to never buy or read SI again.

A letter from one fan can be dismissed as one crazy fanatic having no consequence. BUT if we as Redskins Nation boycott together, we can possibly effect a change.

I mean really, how is it that a team can dominate an entire decade, winning 3 Superbowls from 1981-1991, while appearing in 4 only has 1 member of JUST ONE of those teams getting enshrined (Riggo)? Monk, Grimm, Jacoby were significant contributors to all 3 Superbowl winning teams, yet remain excluded, while guys with "Hall of the Very Good" numbers from Successful Football dynasties (Steelers' John Stallworth for example) get their entire teams in to the Hall.

I urge all of you, to not post links to SI, and to not buy SI....Including the Swimsuit edition. SI is only good for the pictures anyways. Can anyone remember the last time Pre-season SI hype wasn't the kiss of death for Pro/College Football and Basketball teams/franchises? I don't.

In summary.....F SI. All of their writers (Dr. Z, Peter King, Rick Reilly, Steve Rushin) are no talent hacks. I'd put our own JDS up against all of them in a Pepsi Challenge of Sports Writing....

{End of Rant}

PS. I will post my final draft letter to SI for comments later in the week.

I'll sign that petition/letter in a heartbeat , and I no longer purchase or read SI in large part b/c of those two and their dislike of Monk/Redskins.

I've always thought SI was total garbage. Their articles suck, their writers all have hidden agendas, and they consistently get their facts and stories wrong. They have the most frustrating layout I've ever seen in a magazine, and it gives me a headache just to look at it.

I've never bought a single issue of their publication, and I never plan to... if for no other reason than Peter King alone.

I think that's a great idea Keino. If you start a petition, I'll sign it too. For crying out loud, if we can rename french fries to freedom fries across the country, I would think that the Washington DC area could effectively boycott SI untill Monk gets in or until SI 86es those two hacks.

In fact, I think that would be a great campaign for hR to introduce to the local news outlets. JMO.

I've never liked SI anyway, way overrated and not alot of substance really. This is a great idea Keino. It's a shame Dr Z and King can make an exoberant living off the crap they write.

I haven't looked at an SI in 10 years, not even the swimsuit issue. I don't plan on doing so either. In addition, I would happily add my name to any letter you craft to send to those SOB's. The more names we could put to a letter, the more dollar signs they could see themselves losing in subscriptions.

So what the heck?

We've ruled out firebombing!??!! What a P.C. crowd!

Fire it up (the letter, I mean). I would love to see SI take some flack. I agree that SI's sportswriters are hacks with hidden agendas. :weak:

Keino I agree whole heartedly with everything you said and sympathize with your rants, especially with regards to Monk and the mockery these clowns are making of the HOF with their voting privileges.

I would sign any petition to rid these jerks of the disservice they are doing the HOF. I for one never read SI magazine or online as I despise their whole football writing cast. Peter King, Dr.Z, Don Banks. Simply awful.

Peter King was interviewed on a popular (although awful) radio show in Boston today, the 15th of September, and he was discussing the Hall eligibility of the former Patriot Drew Bledsoe. He said that as of now, he would not get in. That is all well in good. Bledsoe has no ring and probably should not get in even if he gets 50,000 yards. He says Bledsoe is- now hold your breath and screams- alot like Art Monk: a member of the hall of very good. Now of all the players he could cite for not going into the hall, he picks Monk even though he is on a Boston radio show. If that does not prove his hatred, I do not know what is. Don't get me wrong about Bledsoe, he was a pretty good quarterback. But Monk was one of the all time greats. And if his requirements for getting into that Hall are rings(which Bledsoe lacks and King says would get him in) then why in the flaming cauldron of hell is Monk not in? And if guys who DID put up numbers but have no rings can get in, then why in the flaming cauldron of hell can't Monk, retiring with glorious numbers, get in? Peter Queen and Pasta Belly need to told that the other is dinner, and somebody needs to wipe the mess up with the Doctah Z and discard of it in the land of washed up writers.

Here's a theory I've been thinking about for awhile:

Everytime I hear people ask Peter King about players that are "on the fence" with the HOF, he often uses Art as the comparison. He'll say what you just said: that they belong in the Hall of Very Good. Art Monk is like his number one person to compare to.

Why would he consistently use Art as the measuring stick of the Hall of Very Good? Aren't there plenty of other players who, in his mind, are close, but not quite there?

My theory is that he uses Art Monk because he knows that everyone in the world, except for him, knows that Art was a ground-breaking HOF WR. Every stat that is perceived today as the benchmark stat for a WR, Art set the mark. 100 catches, 1000 yards, etc, etc, etc... it was all Art Monk. He set the bar for today's players, and everyone knows...

...except Peter King. That, or Peter King has a personal vendetta against Art and the Redskins, and uses his power as a HOF voter to excersize his hatred against us. It's all personal, and lacks total common sense and objectivism. That's why he uses Art as his example of being not quite HOF material: it lets him remind everyone of how mediocre and overrated we are, in his eyes, and it allows him to vent his hatred for us.

not sure if i agree with the assessment that they are no talent hacks, especially rick riley

that's exactly right. reilly is very good for a journalist, and especially for a sportswriter. he's a thinker and doesn't wait for good stories to happen on their own. the others are thoroughly average, happy to merely report events, sprinkling a few corns of wordplay over facile commentary and obvious opinions. they can burn in hell with their lawyer friends.

I wouldn't be so quick to give Rick Reilly Journalistic accolades. Did any of you see his column on the Colorado Football program and the Female FG Kicker? Not thoroughly researched at all and it ended up being debunked.....

Reilly, just like the other SI idiots is a Hack.....but this thread is speaking more to King and Zimmerman. The fact is, none of these clowns is deserving of a HOF vote. Not a single one.

I merged this with an already existing thread on the subject. Also, the Seneca is not setup for those that aren't allowed to create threads in the regular forums to do so in an attempt to bypass the rules. I merged it this time, but the next time it will be deleted.

IMHO,
Peter King and Paul Zimmerman, alias Dr.”Z”(BTW that title is a disservice to all who have labored in post-graduate studies)are a perfect example of what is wrong with sports journalism today. They both twist the truth to feed their egomaniacal sense of importance. The truth is whittled away at by their self anointed “expertise” until it no longer resembles its pristine base.
At best these low life, knuckle dragging, mouth breathing, scum sucking, snot licking animated piles of fecal matter are desperately attempting to justify their anal retentive existence. Stupidity is their mother and boorishness their father. They are the bastards of media fornication who’s continued procreative efforts need to be castrated.
Just my 2 cents….
You have my 110% support in an effort to remove these sphincter muscle cast offs …
