Every time a troll Cowboy fan with no life and a pathetic existance comes to this board, like lonelystar, it just makes me hate the Cowboys that much more.
#1 for me.

I picked "psyched as ever" but I won't pick the Redskins to win one of these games until they actually do it. The Skins have invented new ways to lose games to Dallas and they deserve no benefit of the doubt. If that seems disloyal, too bad. I'll root for the Redskins as I always have, but they haven't done anything to earn confidence against Dallas. Quite the opposite.

I voted I am psyched but it's not the same, because it isn't the same. It is hard to keep a rivalry heated when both teams consistently finish at the bottom and never fight against each other for the division. Once these teams get turned around and they suddenly find themselves in Week 10, fighting for the division lead against one another, the flame will again rise.

I've been contemplating this question for about 5 minutes. I think its still the biggest rivalry in the east but with the girls having our number so long, one would think its lost something. Thinking that way got my blood boiling. Heated if you will. Dallas must die. Option 1 for me. :dalassuk:
Mark; "Screw Dallas" should be at the end of each option

It has lost its luster.
I'm positive other fanbases don't feel this is a rivalry, like they once did. (Recent rivalries like Colts/Pats and Eagles/Falcons have jumped into the spotlight)
The worst part is that I don't believe the Redskins/Cowboys Players feel this is a rivalry.
I think it only exists between the Cowboys and Redskins' fanbases.

True rivalries stand the test of time... Nobody will care about Iggles/Falcons in three years. Nobody will care about Colts and really anyone in three years... But this hatred is alive and well no matter what the circumstances. SCREW DALLASS, and the Skins better get this one finished b/c I physically can't take being that sick again. Damnit, we need to take it personally and put a serious beating on these jerks.... ARGH!!!! Now I am getting fired up and I don't want to get started at work... people already think I am strange as it is when it comes to football.

It may be true that some of players don't think of it as a big rivalry, I think Ray Brown may be the only current Redskin that has experienced a victory over the girls. IMO as long as the Rivalry is still alive somewhere, which it is with the fans, it will always be a Rivalry. A win Monday night will throw this fanbase into a frenzy. Those players will get the picture. Fedex will be a different place. Of course more wins are needed to get full potential of the 12th man but a win over the Girls is a start to something really special...Seattle will be walking into hell.
Dallas must Die, I friggen hate them. :dalassuk:

I hate Dallas with a passion, but there is no way the rilvary is the same as in the 70's and 80's. We were both good, and always fighting to win the East. You need your Roger Staubachs, Diron Talbert and Dexter Manleys to keep the juice flowing. My adrenalin used to start pumping early in the week. I would be at work, and a thought would flash in my mind about the game, and I would get that head to toe adrenalin surge.
No, its not the same.

For me its as heated as ever. Especially since its Gibbs and Parcells. It just doesn't seem like we've lost 14 of the last 15. I hope we go the other way with it starting this week. It's gonna be great when we beat them on Monday night.

09-16-2005, 01:33 PM
I had to say its not quite the same and definitely put the blame on free agency and salary cap.
I really hope to see Gibbs stick around and hold onto 75% of his starters for the next four years so we can see a rivalry on the field and not just in history.
This will always be one of the best rivalries in sports and is acknowledged as such throughout the sporting world, but for me as a fan, with the ineptitude of our team in recent years it has lost some of the luster and energy that I would normally expend in abusing Dallas fans.
charleesdad
09-16-2005, 01:37 PM
By rivalry on the field I am refering to the same players on each side lining up against one another for 2 (or God willing 3 with a playoff berth) games a year over the course of several years.
Lavar blew up Aikman a while back and I don't know if there are any guys left on the Dallas team that were playing in that game and might use it as a reason to play harder.

i think its great that this game was scheduled in the beginning of the season because playoff berths are up for grabs and the game has great importance for both teams. once both teams start winning again, the rivalry will regain some of the lost luster. with that said- SCREW DALLASS!
Screw Dallas!
Screw Dalls!
Screw Dallas!

With Philthadelphia starting the season off with an L, the heat is on more then ever for me compared to the last few seasons. We have a legitamate shot to be #1 in the NFC east after Monday night (since the Saints/Gint's play first)
If I see a Cowboys emblem anytime int he near future I think ill blow the car up.

Not so sure about that....
It's Redskins week: Marco Rivera spent nine years in Green Bay playing against Chicago in a series that began in 1921. DeMarcus Ware is a rookie, but both players are aware of what Redskins week means.
"If it's anything like that Packers-Bears rivalry or that Packers-Minnesota rivalry, it's a big-time rivalry," Rivera said. "I've seen Dallas and the Washington Redskins play before. I've heard all the stories."
Ware actually received calls from the Redskins' Marcus Washington and Cornelius Griffin earlier in the week.
"They asked me, 'Are you ready?' If you're not ready, we're going to get you ready,' " Ware said.

Dallas must die. The kind of, "I can't believe they found a consenting goat to pose for that picture" embarrassing kind of death that, in a just universe, inevitably follows evil organizations like the Cowboys and Jerr-uh's nose.
If I could pick between 9-7 and out of the playoffs with 2 loses to Dallas or 2-14 with both wins over the Girls, believe me, I 'll take 2-14 100 times out of 100.
If the meteor that wipes out the modern world strikes at ground zero Dallas, let civilization burn, baby!

I think its funny that Marcus and Corny called Ware - but I couldn't even talk to those guys if I was in the situation. From my own experience in high school against rival teams in our county, I couldn't even look at other football players before or after the game, whether we won or not. It was hatred man, pure hatred.
I have the same feeling during Dallasssss week for all of their fans. But because I'm not personally playing the game I go back to conversing with them afterwards.

What's that all about? Don't call up the rookie and tip your hand! Why are Redskins they even TALKING to the people on that team??? Man, I hate to see this. The only talking they should be doing is mocking the Dallass "team" after the thorough beating we give them on Monday night. Until then, they're a subspecies of football player who should not be consorted with.

I was just reading that this will be the 14th meeting on MNF for the Skins and the Pukes, tying with the Broncos and Denver for the most ever. Surprisingly, at least to me, is that Dallas only leads the series 7-6. We can even the MNF score and start a new streak this Monday baby. Oh yeah, and screw Dallass!

We have to turn it around. I can't take losing to them anymore. Everytime it happens it cuts deeper and deeper. I feel that tomorrow night it is imperitive that we win this game. We need to prove that we are a playoff level team. This is a game that we can build on. We should have beaten them twice last year. I am sick of dallas fans, We need to win and then they don't show their faces.

To me, its not the same as I recall the Allen- Gibbs I years, since the cowboys have had that streak. However, I believe Portis has set it straight that from this point we need to erase that.

i don't care if they've won 14 out of 15 or that both teams haven't been great lately.. we're fans.. and this is our rival no matter what. Wile E. Coyote might get his butt whooped by the Road Runner constantly.. but it's still his biggest rival.

I don't know if it's quite what it used to be, but this is still our biggest rival, and the fact that all *true redskins fans hate dallas fans' guts, I'd say that this is a huge game on monday night. Oh, and if we win, and the giants lose, then we are first in the division. Just a little food for thought. When is the last time we could say we were first in the division?

After we sweep this season the rivalry will be alive and well.
I found this artical on the subject
IRVING, Texas -- Joe Gibbs understands what "Redskins vs. Cowboys" used to mean as well as anyone. He also realizes that Dallas winning 14 of the last 15 games has taken away much of the meaning.
"In order to have a great rivalry, both teams have to be winning some games. Lately against Dallas, we haven't been able to do that," Gibbs said. "Until we start doing that, it's kind of hard to have a modern-day rivalry
So Gibbs is doing all he can to give Monday night's game the juiced-up intensity of yesteryear, back when George Allen accused the Cowboys of putting spies in trees to peek on Washington practices, and Tom Landry filmed a popular commercial in which the punch line featured him "surrounded by Redskins."
Good artical from NBC (http://www.nbc4.com/sports/4990457/detail.html)

From todays' Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/18/AR2005091801448.html):
In his last five starts, Brunell completed just 53 of 120 passes (44.2 percent), for 460 yards (3.8 yards per attempt), with four touchdowns and five interceptions. He was sacked nine times in that span, and registered a horrid quarterback rating of 48.6; by comparison, Ryan Leaf, a former second overall pick considered by some the biggest bust in NFL history, had a 50.0 rating in his career, throwing 14 touchdowns and 36 interceptions in 26 career appearances.
When you show worse than Ryan Leaf, it is not good. Granted the statistical sample is five games, but still. Ouch.
