View Full Version : I thought Frost was a kickoff guy?

Novak had some good FGs but his kickoffs were basically doo doo. I thought one of the reasons we signed Frost was b/c he could kickoff. Maybe next week?

as much as Novak seems to be Mr. Clutch, he doesn't have the power to get the ball to the endzone and Gibbs/Smith won't tolerate that. As popular as he is, his time here will be short.

I assumed we would use him on kickoffs when Hall returns so we can keep Hall as exclusively a FG guy to keep him healthy. Frost probably isn't any better at kicking off than Novak is.

hall's never shown that ability consistently, so i don't know what you're basing this assertion on.

I could kickoff deeper and I have an ingrown toenail and quite a few Bud lites in me.

During the Dallas game he was getting the kickoffs on the goalline. Not sure what happened during this one, unless it was intentional. Maybe to kick the ball as high as he could to give our coverage team time to make it down there, and not give up the big return.

His kicks were so ugly and akward looking. It looks like he plants his foot way past the line, runs striaght towards the sideline, and kicks it to the 25. I think we are in big trouble if he doesnt improve.

I only remember his clutch FGs at Maryland...anyone remember how his kickoffs were?

Perhaps ...Im watching it now(taped it) and they dont return it more than 10-15 yards infact most of the time the Seahawks still start inside the 30.

Novak always kicks high to get more time, and Gibbs even alluded to it. It's smart, considering that our ST guys need all the time they can get.

The kickoffs were piss poor. We need that corrected.
The Kid was clutch so I'll let it slide this week. Wouldn't mind seeing Frosty try.

Apparently this is intentional. Warpathinsiders is reporting that Novak alluded to it after the game as well. Glad it was intentional because boy did it look horrible.

I was at the game and I have to say that Novak has the strangest approach I have ever seen. He starts like 15 yards to the left of the tee and kicks it towards the sideline, then it hooks back inside. His kickoffs were lousy, intended or not, he would have done better squibbing it.
I heard some talk on the radio that Hall may get released, since he has a nagging injury and is taking up a roster spot. I don't know what to think except that there could be more changes.

This had to be intentional. I think that Danny Smith told him to put some air under the ball. In Dallas he was kicking them deeper than that, way deeper. I have to assume that D. Smith told him to do that.
I have been enjoying watching the replays of that OT clutch 40 yarder.
If Frost was a better option at Kickoff, he'd be doing it!!

See i think it was intentional. Our ST play hasnt been doing that well this year and i think they didnt want them to break one on us. So what better way then to kick it sky high and force them to call a fair catch. And heck they even had a penalty for an illegal fair catch.
Remember in Dallas he was kicking the ball to the goal line. You dont lose ur leg strength that much unless you have an injury and he did not let on that he had one when he was kicking the 40 yarders.
All in all i think it was the game plan.

I was wondering about that too.
All this media and three different interviews I heard/saw him on and not one journalist has the skills to ask him that question?

I think the really high kick was intentional, but the normal ones sucked ass .... hopefully that was the idea, but why not kick deep?
On the Joe Gibbs show (on NBC) Gibbs said they got Frost for kickoffs ... I'm confused.

I would have to say it was intentional too... the Hawks average at the 22 on kickoffs.

Don't worry about Novak guys, I'm certain the kickoffs were intentional. This kid put it through the end zone at UMD.
Also, can anyone here actually remember a touchback on a kickoff since Gibbs has been back? I can't. And we have had 4 or 5 different guys kicking off. Do you really believe that all these guys can't kick it deep? Come on. Hall has one of the strongest legs in the league and his kicks still landed at the 10 yard line. They are being instucted to do so.

Hmmmm....If a guy can kick the ball into the endzone regularly on kick-offs then I would think the coaches would instruct him to do just that. I can see the thinking of hang-time on the kick but that would only be used if the guy can't kick into the endzone. I didn't see Novak's kicks yesterday but I noticed in the Dallas game and mentioned in another thread (things to improve on(?)) that his kick-offs were too short. He never got the ball close to the goal-line. He was only getting it to about the 10-yard line. In fact, on the last kick in the Dallas game, he kicked from the 35-yard line (5 yard penalty on Dallas for encroachment on the PAT) and he still only got it to the 5-yard line. I'm thinking he can't get it to the endzone that's why the kicks have been really high. I was hoping Frost could do better than Novak on kick-offs but obviously this is not the case. This better be fixed (kicks into the endzone or good hang time to allow coverage to get there) by the KC game in two weeks or Dante Hall just might make 'em pay....
