In what I hope will become a constant, I would like to again send my heartfelt thanks to Marty Schottenheimer for not selecting Santana Moss when he had the chance. That freaking Rod Gardner sure turned out to be winner.:banghead:

Strangest WR class ever. That whole draft also ended up being a real "what were they thinking draft"

Gerrard Warren before Stround and Seymore
Jamar Fletcher and Willie Middlebrooks before Smoot and there were probably more I can't think of.

Just look at the 2nd round of that draft:
Drew Brees, Chad Johnson, Alge Crumpler, Kendrell Bell, Kris Jenkins, Chris Chambers and Shaun Rodgers. Wow.

Drew Brees didn't do much until last year, but the rest of them... that's horrible scouting.

I'm not upset with Marty for snubbing Moss, if we had drafted him he probably would have wanted out of this team just like all the other clowns during our years of ineptitude. Now we got him when we're about to turn this thing around, perfect timing if you ask me...

I really don't blame Marty. Gardner was the guy I wanted that year as well based on my pre-draft research. Moss has come on like a champ, but he certainly is on pace to put up his best numbers.... Gardner could have been great, but didn't have the physical skills.

He had a 3000 yard season in 2002. Yeah, he didn't pop until last year, but he had done something.

I just want to say that Moss is an absolute stud! I remember the Jets fans here saying that he is soft and runs towards the sidelines. Well, I have yet to see anything like that, Santana goes all out every play from what I have seen. He is quickly becoming a favorite of mine and I proudly wore my new Moss jersey today. Santana is the best WR we have had since the days of the posse.

I am not sure, but we could say that we came out ahead in this, because we got a sixth rounder from Charlotte in exchange for a bench warmer. :lol1:

I'll second that one JJis$!!

Moss is the killing threat that we really lacked last season, but also he is really working the intermediate routes. LOVE THE GUY!!!

Between Rod Coles Moss:

We Gave:

- First round pick
- Massive contract (Coles)
- Coles
- Cap hit

We Got:

- Moss
- Texas Stadium
- Sixth round pick

Yeah, pretty much a win for us. ;)

They've got a point. No one would be able to get Moss the ball in NY, so they'd still be screwed.

Moss is a gamer.....a go to guy......a clutch performer. He just keeps making great catches that make the difference....something Coles (after the toe injury), Gardner and others never could do.

And I have seen nothing "soft" about him. He has made some very difficult and clutch catches in traffic around some excellent defenders....with reputations for pounding receivers.

Man, this trade just gets better game after game....

That draft I wanted Chad Hutchinson in the 1st and Chambers in the 2nd. I was happy w/ Smoot in the 2nd though until last offseason. We really needed a WR. Gardener, pfffft.....:banghead:

Marty you are an idiot and you should stick to coaching leave the draft to someone who knows how to judge talent.

Why I thought he was doing good?! I have to be honest even if he wasn't doing good thats who I wanted. I thought him and Jensen would have made a nice Wolverine combo.

I don't follow the Seahawks, to my surprise some people actually do (what a couple of weirdo's that sat next to me today, but thats another story). and my vision is so bad now I couldn't make out if Hutch was even playing there today.

he drafted pretty good the last two years for San Diego. Marty never got a real chance here, he went 8-8, and got fired. He is a good coach, must have told Dan Snyder he wouldn't go get him coffee.

I have stated this on another thread, but.... we do really need to thank Marty! If he would have drafted Moss, he would be outta here by now. Think of all of the changes in coaching and personell. If Marty would have drafted him, I don't think he would still be around.

Remember who wanted to draft Moss? Dan Snyder...he deferred to Marty because he promised to stay out of his business and Marty went for the big receiver partly to help the run game blocking.

They're haters!! but there were alot that supported Moss and gave props. I all fairness they do have a serious QB problem, but is it just me or where ever Coles is there's a QB problem?

Damn!

I'm glad we have Moss, but Chad would look real good in our offense (but as Spurrier would say -- hindsight is 50/50).

this is what i was thinking as well.. Moss didn't fit Marty's slow and grinding style while he was coach here. blessing in disguise.

Bingo! You hit the nail on the head. Gardner was more suited for "Marty Ball". But I hated the fact that we drafted Gardner and at the time was pi$$ed. But at least it all worked out in the end right?

if you look at the first 2 years, Gardner was the better receiver as Moss got hurt in his first year and only had 32 catches after 2 years whereas Fiddy had 117. so either way.. it's over with.. Fiddy had his best years with the Skins' and Moss WILL be having his best years with the Skins'.. it's a win-win.

Marty was horrible as GM. He was also the guy who made Jeff George the season starter and replaced him with Tony Banks who he picked up at the start of the season. He also benched Darrell Green for Fred Smoot, although Darrell Green clearly outplayed Smoot. And did not win a game until Darrell Green took over the starting job again. What a baffoon.

Moss is bad. Great run routing and catches literally everything. I love the speed dimension he brings. DBs are always worried he's going for the home run, then he can comeback for a curl or intermediate pass. I really like this guy and the play he brings. Another great offseason move.

i agree, we would have found a way to ruin his career if Marty had taken him. Everything worked out in the end.
