I don't know if many of you read the Washington Post online but Ivan Carter has been keeping a running blog on the Wizards training camp and what he has seen thus far its been some really positive reviews of the team and Caron Butler in particular. Here are some quotes:
The word I would use to describe Caron Butler is explosive. There was a play today where he caught the ball on the wing on the fastbreak about 10 feet out. As Butler made his move to the cup, Michael Ruffin angled in to cut him off. Butler took one hard dribble, lept into the air, went through contact by Ruffin and laid the ball off glass. Would've been a classic And 1. Caron has also been diving on the floor for loose balls and hustling his tail off on defense. He's hungry.
I'll be writing about this in more detail in tomorrow's Post but Brendan Haywood is in excellent shape. During some scrimmaging today, Big Brendan was getting up and down the floor like a guard. He was really bringing it. Brendan and Etan Thomas also did some nice banging down low. So far, Etan has shown no signs of being bothered by those abs
I think it was David who asked about PJ Ramos. Today, I saw the big guy catch the ball in the paint, back his way to right in front of the rim and drop a smooth jump hook over Hiram Fuller. There was nothing Fuller could do about it and he's 6-11, 240-pounds. That's the tease with Ramos. At 7-3, he's so big you can't help but wonder what would happen if he put it all together. Still, he's only 20 years old, which has to make him one of the best center prospects in the world below the age of 21, doesn't it? Thing is, this is a playoff team and with B Haywood, Etan and Calvin Booth, Eddie has three vets he can turn to at the center position. PJ is going to have to really show something in the preseason games to earn some PT. Still, it's a nice problem to have.
It was great to hear all the positive things about Butler and Ramos in particular. Ramos has the potential to be a monster and he's only 20 years old. Him and Blatche could be a devasting pair underneath for the Wizards if they can develop and stay with the team.
