Its time to talk about the WRs.

We can go ahead and pencil in two starters. Its a given that Gardner and Coles will be starters. But the 3rd spot is wide open right now. The last starters position will be highly competitive with McCants, Jacobs, Johnson, Russle, and Woodcock batteling it out.

Be sure to check out the article that PSF has written on WRs. You can find it here:

Personally, I think McCants will be named the #3 WR at the beginning of the season. But, I wouldn't be surprised to see either Russle or Jacobs overtaking the #3 spot during the year.

McCnats and Jacobs will have it by mid-season.

I would have to think that it is McKants job to loose

I think Jacobs will have it. Spurrier is VERY high on this kid...and with 4 / 5 reciever sets, McCants will still get his opportunities.

Even though he's a rookie, he fits what Spurrier wants better than McCants in my opinion.

Most likely it will be a swapping match.

I think we NEED to give it to Jacobs and see what he's got.

DMC (or the guy currently known as "The Artist") is perfect for the 4th spot, IMO.

i think it'll be jacobs. the coaches have nothing but good things to say about him. plus he knows the system already so all he needs to do is get used to the NFL.

I'm starting to doubt this "he knows the system" theory. We had plenty of people that "knew the system" last year, yet we still sucked.
I think Jacobs will be a star some day, so as long as he's adaquate, keep him in there.

I think Jacobs will get the job. I like McCants but I just think that Jacobs all around game will be more impressive. I think McCants will be the 4th though.:banger:

I think the order will be this....

1a Coles
1b Gardner
3 Jacobs
4 Johnson
5 McCants
6 Russell

Of course a lot depends on injuries and whether they keep 5 or 6 receivers. If Russell stays healthy I can see D-Mac inactive most weeks. Most people probably don't see Johnson so high but I believe the team does.

I thought it had already been set in stone that Coles was number 1, and Gardner was #2.

(in my opinion, that's the way it needs to be since coles has much more skill...Gardner makes a killer #2 though)

Voted Jacobs..>I just have a feeling about this kid.

Patrick Johnson above McCants? I think not. Spurrier loves McCnats, thisnk he has great hands, maybe not pure speed, but thinks he is fast. McCants showed wonderful signs of progress and promise last season. He will get every opportunity.

yeah, i know but i think jacobs is different. he isnt some sorry castoff that we KNOW cant play. plus, he did well WITHOUT spurrier and his offense.

The difference with Jacobs and the other UF WRs is Jacobs is only one year removed from the system. Its fresh in his mind. The other guys had moved on to the NFL and learned other playbooks. Plus, there's this thing called NFL talent. Jacobs seems to have that, more so than Anthony, Green, and Doering had when they left for the NFL.

Also, it depends on how much Jacobs wants it. You have to be willing to work hard in the NFL. In college ball, your talent was enough get you by. Thats not the same thing in pro ball. Everyone is fast and the talent level is similar...

All I know is that before the draft Spurrier JR was quoted as saying he would be happy with Johnson as his #3 receiver, after Gardner and what was the 1st round pick to be drafted. So right there the team placed Johnson higher on the depth chart than McCants. There was also the guy on extremeskins that supposedly had lunch with Snyder and asked about McCants in which Snyder replied that D-Mac is a good 5th or 6th receiver.

I agree that D-Mac will get every chance to earn a spot but if they play about equal(Johnson, Russell and McCants), I see McCants as the odd man out. Spurrier will want to use and keep the fastest players if they are playing well and D-Mac is not as fast as Patrick and Russell.

I disagree with Lostin, wholeheartedly, I think for a fact that for someone to bring in 3 or more former players of a "coaches system" and still get beat out by McCants shows some undeniable talent and if you forget McCants was killing during pre-season last year after getting not a minute of burn during his rookie season. I subscribe to one theory to be the man you've got to beat the man and right now McCants is the only one mentioned who has taken it to the house in the NFL. McCants will do the damn thing.

I just don't think I would underestimate DMC, I have no faith in Johnson at all so I expect him to be the 5th or 6th guy but I might be wrong

I too think McCants has some talent but I think some of you are overrating him(matter of fact I think next to Rock Cartwright, McCants is the 2nd most overrated player on the team in the eyes of Redskins fans). I dunno, maybe I'm still suffering from "Norv-itis" and just don't get too excited about our marginal players that may or may not develop. I prefer to keep my expectations of these players low(and the team for that matter).

The point about McCants playing well(he wasn't all that great other than the game against the 49ers) in preseason means little to me as players like Danny Awful can also look good against 4th and 5th stringers.

Anyway, I just think that Johnson is the player the TEAM wants to play more than D-Mac. I personally hope McCants proves me wrong.

I completely agree...I actually hope Johnson beats out McCants...his speed is the main factor.
I'm not a huge fan of McCants. But he'll still make a good 4th.

I'm not a big McCants fan either. Too gangely and not a RAC kinda guy that we need. I'd say Jacobs is our third guy. I'll cheer for Russell a little. Definitely don't care about Johnson at all.

Some of you guys are high on Johnson, wanting him to beat out McCants? The Patrick Johnson with the whopping 67 total catches over 5 years? The Johnson who is on his I believe to be third NFL team now? That averages out to 13.4 a year. Naw, give me my boy D-Mac and his 21 receptions last year while Spurrier was yanking everyone in and out the lineup over that guy.

johnson and russell are known for their speed to spread the field, but I see jacobs taking the #3 spot. In my opinion Washington has one of the best starting duos in the league.

I see this order
1) coles
2) gardner
3) jacobs
4) mcCants
5) johnson
6) russell-return guy

I think its between Jacobs and Russell. The Skins seemed pretty high on Russell last year and had a lot of good things to say about him in mini camps. Don't count him out yet. D-McCants is good but I think it will take him another year to break out of the #4 spot.

I think the #3 spot is Jacobs' to lose. McCants is technically the incumbent, but I can't see Spurrier not giving Jacobs every possible opportunity to ensure that he's third on the depth chart. DMC will hopefully be fourth, with Russell fifth.

The competition for the #3 spot should be good but I agree with JDS, I can see SS giving Jacobs every opportunity to win it. McCants will still get alot of playing time because I see SS running alot of 3 and 4 receiver sets.
