View Full Version : Three HUGE Reasons this game is a must

Here's what this game means and WHY we MUST Win. (yeah I know, its the Giants, as a given)
1. Take Sole possession of 1st place, even if it is a half way mark coming up.
We have the current edge on Dallas, Philly would still be a game back by way of the win. Why?.....,
2. Because we'd be 2 up in the Division with no losses currently. and..,,
3. Its a Conference game, which pads us to a whopping 5-0 for tie breakers when opportunities on the next level appear, should we maintain our current pace and course.

I think it means the most for us momentum wise. The Giants are getting lots of love but i think we match up real well. I know we all say we dont care what people think but IMO the players do. Its common knowledge people like to be appreciated for what they do(take Lavar last week and his response to the fans). With a W against the Giants the players/fans/media will all start to believe and that will lead to better efforts during the week and during the games IMO.

Can there ever be a week where someone starts a thread about a game not being a must? Elimination from the playoffs, the playoffs, and the Super Bowl are musts. If you don't know why a game is a must go to the Chippewa non-sports forum.

Exactly. The thrust for a team to go to the next level on, is usually a game that proves they are consensious of what is taking place, they are prepared to meet that challenge, and they demonstrate the ability to deliver in the biggest of games. This is one.

Its funny that you posted this. I was looking at the Giants message board on their website and they are saying pretty much the same thing about this being a "must" game. We are getting a lot of respect over there. I can't wait. Should be a good one. BTW, I got ticket to the rematch on 24 Dec

Well true, of course I could have said, look at all these Halloween goodies waiting should we win!

I think this is a Big game. I dont ever call games Must but I understand why people are saying this so often. We are a Bad team turning into a good team so these swing games are all important to the pshyce and future of our team.

You know what I cant wait for the fan experience after this game. if we win a few we are gonna have a revival of the fan base. I think we are starting to gain speed now but a win this week I think will finally let some more cautiously optimistic fans out to ignite the fanbase. which will make me enjoy things more. I know most dont like fairer weather fans but when you live as far away from D.C. as i do it is awesome to see another fan with a Skins Jersey or Hat on.

Actually, if you could find me any stairwell in Northern VA w/ a bedroom for less than a $1 million I will entertain your thread for 5 minutes. I can live w/ cobwebs and dust, as long as there's a walk in closet and a 'clear view of the southern sky.' ;)

People's opinions vary and while I tend to agree with you that it isn't a must-win, I am the one who tabbed a week 2 game @ dallass as a "must win" and I don't back down from that one bit. I feel the team needed to get that monkey off their backs if they wanted to go anywhere.
While these aren't literally "must win" games, certainly they are ultra-mega important don't you think?

Fact:
Many of the years since Joe Gibbs left, the Skins would have been in the playoffs with a better/winning division record.

I don't think that this game is a "must win" in the true definition of the words because we will not be out of the playoffs if we lose. That being said, the Giants game and the Eagles game will have a huge bearing on the outcome of our season. Two straight division losses will certainly not help our cause.

So by definition, wouldn't your statement make bgforever's question valid? Only difference is you said the next two games are "must wins". I'm just playing devil's advocate.
The more division wins, the better the chances to go to the playoffs and beyond.... we lose, that's an added loss in a tough division race. And I just LOVE seeing us on top of the division in late Oct - early Nov. It's been a while.

...until next week's game...
...and until the game after that...etc.

It would put us in a great position to have 2 road wins in the division with 3 home division game yet to be played. I've said all along that we need 4 division wins to make the playoffs, a win this week makes that very attainable.

I hope so, I think the skins have a very hard schedule and need this win because the East is so good that they are going to beat each other up and maybe only the division winner gets into the playoffs

With only a 16 game season and only 6 games inside the division, every game is a must win, espescially division games.
A loss brings us back to 4-3 and that is barely above .500, a win propels us to 5-2 and in nice control of our Destiny. Not to mention that a win will give us 2-0 in the division with both wins on the road. This sets up our ending of the season nicely.

I think that's just it. We need another division game victory to continue to build confidence heading into the 2nd half of our season. In recent years we haven't won more than 1 division game per year. But if we win this, not only will we be 1st in the division but w/Philly twice and home games against the other 2 division foes, we'll be sitting pretty. Also since we beat Seattle it allows us to keep pace w/them should any tie breakers arise.

The truth is...if they lose this "must win" game...they could technically win 9 straight and easily make the playoffs. ;)
I think "must wins" should be reserved for later in the season, when options are more limited...

In week 17 if we have already clinched a playoff spot or been eliminated, I'm going to start a thread just for you that says: this game is meaningless.

To make the playoffs you must:
1. Win in your division and
2. Win in your conference.
This is a must win!

All games are "must win" games. Like Mr. Edwards says, "You play to win the games."
Yes, this game might carry more importance than, say, the Raiders game. But we have to win as many as possible to make the playoffs, so, in my book, there isn't really a game on the schedule that I look at and say, "Yeah, we can lose this one."

I see this as an absolute must win game. If we lose this week and to Philly, we would be 4-4 trailing all 3 teams in the division facing Tampa
Bay. Not a strong position.
Not the end of the world, however. We should win 3 or 4 out of 5 in games 9-13...what an exciting finish those last 3 games would be against the division., but it would be so much easier to smash NY and not worry about it.
That blur was Santana Moss.
