View Full Version : Philly @ Denver
What are your thoughts about this one? Philly is coming off a weird game, one they should have lost. The Broncos are at home and coming of a really tough loss, so they're going to be hungry and looking to bounce back against an injured Eagles team.
Thoughts? Predictions?

I think denver is overrated. Obviously I hope they win, but I think Philly feels that they really need to make a statement.

Philly will play as good as McNabb does. If this is the week his injury finally catches up to him (it should happen in the next couple of weeks) then they are going to lose. Denver came off a tough loss and will love being at home this week.

I think that denver will pull out a close one, philly won't continue to win with a pass first, second and third offense. Especially against the better defenses in the NFL. If they hope to win then they'd better unpack the running game and hope the D that showed up last week, shows up every week.

TBH .............. I don't want Philly to be put into a position of a desperate "Must Win" game situation for next week. They'll have enough of an edge being at home on national TV. Then again - if they lose I'm not going to be upset about it either.

There was an article that I read today on the way to my internship from the "Metro" and I think that it pretty much describes the feeling of most fans here and the city in general.... and I love it! Hard to swallow Eagles' new brand of winning

In case you missed the end of last Sunday's Eagles game because you left the stadium early or turned the TV off in disgust, the Eagles did in fact win the game- though 5 days later it still feels more ilke a loss.
Maybe it was the fact that they passed the ball 54 times, yet only found the end zone once. Maybe it was because they were bailed out by the special teams and then the defense and perhaps even the refs. Maybe it was because it was after 6 games and a shaky 4-2 record, we've all come to the realization that this isn't 2004, and 7-0 and 13-1 won't be happening. Maybe it's because they're no longer the best team in the NFC and maybe not even the best team in the NFC East.
Maybe we all see doom and gloom because they're going into Denver on Sunday and the Broncos lost a 13-point lead to the Giants at the Meadowlands and aren't going to be in an "it's not a conference game so let's not get as up as we would for say the Chiefs" type of mood.
Frustrated? Join the club. The year after losing the Super Bowl by just three points wasn't and isn't supposted to be this way. Not with a team that's allegedly set up to make a run at a championship every year, rather than in any particular year.
It's not that I think they should hand the ball off to Brian Westbrook 30 times a game or maybe should've traded one of their "precious" third-round draft picks to get another legitimate running back (Travis Henry), but would it really hurt their offense to at least pretend to have a running game once in a while?
The offense still acts like a forward pass by a stationary quarterback is the only option available. And yes, Andy Reid, you will take the full responsibility for that and furthermore you should. I don't care if Donovan can't run or shouldn't run himself, the least he could do is fake it.
The 2005 season is and always has been about redemption-getting to the Super Bowl and winning it. This team looks very much like they are going nowhere, or nowhere near where we want them to be February 5th. Especially not when even the wins feel like a loss.

I certainly hope the Eagles lose, if they win they sweep the AFC West. Honestly though, if I were putting money on it I'd probably pick the Eagles in this one.

That's about right PGiddy. Fans here are nervous about the team's play up to this point. This offense shows some serious concerns this year. I wouldn't expect the imbalance of run/pass to change this week either. The Broncos are real tough against the run and I don't think the gaps will be there for Westbrook. Whoever said this team is as good as McNabb was dead on. For the last 3 years, that's been the case and he's lead us pretty far, but when he has a bad game in the playoffs the season is over. Nobody knows how much the injury is holding him back, but my gut tells me the poor play isn't as much the injury as it is poor chemistry of Andy's system. Andy needs to right the ship and fast.
BTW- going to Denver today and I am juuuuuust a bit nervous.

Denver is going to be playing an emotional game because of the loss of one of their guys for an unknown amount of time in the car crash. I think the emotion will get the better of them, and that the Eagles might pull this one out. But it sure as hell isn't going to be easy for them. McNabb has something to prove this week, and despite the win last week, his critics are getting harsher, as are the fans. THIS, IMHO, is going to be the make or break game for the Eagles, even more so then next week. I know Dever has a clutch run D, but if they don't do SOMETHING more with Westbrook, its gonna be the beginning of a long fall downwards.
Have fun in Dever Phil, and be careful! Hopefully when you get home you are gonna be taking Septa, cause if you do, they might not be running!

wow, philly needs to chill. it almost seems like even I have more trust in the eagles than eagles fans do. It always seems like philly always starts to pick up their winning later on in the season, so for a team that has been dominating the past couple of years, i dont know why philly fans are so gloomy.

Because Philly teams always string them along, then let them down.

Exactly. Anyway about the match-up I can see the eagles not giving too much on the ground game except down in the redzone. So I dont expect big rushing numbers from Bell and Anderson. Jake Plummer will feed it to his tight ends and Rod Smith for first downs. On the other side of the ball Philadelphia will get it done in the first half on offense with McNabb finding Westbrook. Thats my prediction and I made sure to give lots of information so if Im right than bragging rights for me. :)

In the last four games, Westbrook has rushed 25 times for 52 yards and has not scored a touchdown.
The Broncos are 5th in the League against the run. I bet every team playing the Eagles wants to keep forcing McNabb and his sports hernia to keep beating them with the pass. You'd think Reid would love to get the running game going and take some pressure off DMac. I don't know why they've abandoned the run, but I hope it continues.
I picked the Broncos in this game and it goes without saying that I'll be pulling for them.

at their current pace, the Eagles will have 16 total yards this game.

champ always fakes it when he gets beat. look at last year, when he got beat against chad johnson, he slipped. against michael clayton, he slipped. against marty booker 2 years ago, he slipped. he slips so people think he accidentally got beat

44 yard TD for Denver! At least we'll have company.
I'm gonna watch the 49ers game again instead of dwelling on this weeks "performance"

Both teams are going to be desperate as hell next week. Should be a great old fashioned grudge match. The home field advantage during prime time should be great. Hope our fans come ready to rock, that is if most of them haven't jumped from the rooftops like some people round here are ready to do.

Should be an explosive and hard hitting game between our two teams next week. We both got taken behind the woodshed this week and both will be desperate to get a win and stay above .500. If there were ever a game I'm glad to have a home field advantage in, it is this one, we'll need it.

I'm happy the Skins are improved this. I'm not happy that they and the Eagles are playing like crap going into the game. I've been saying for a couple yrs to the office cowboys fan that I just want an NFC East game where the outcome isn't heavily favored one way or the other. Hopefully, both teams play quality ball though I'm sure you guys won't mind if yall kick our azz by 20 pts.

Both teams will come out gunning, I just hope we can establish a rhythm. Something that was absent from our last outing against an NFC Beast rival.
