I asked a question over at the Jets IFS site, and I think it's one that many of you (Skins fans) would like to hear or read the responses to. Here's the link, and if you feel compelled join the discussion.

but I'm sure with bonuses stretched over 7 Years, it will only help us in resigning other players

Huh?

So Coles' bonus stretched over 7 year wouldn't have???

Coles was not worth the money and was replacable.

YEAH....and that point is FAR from proven yet. They replaced him with Curtis Conway!

Lets take a look at just how worthy Conway is of replacing Coles.

[list=1]
In TEN seasons, Conway has only played all 16 games in FOUR of them
Of those TEN seasons, he has only gone over the 1,000 yard mark THREE times
Conway has only played in TWO playoff games in his ten year career. They call that experience?

i read in an article that the Jets FO may have rushed to get robertson signed in time for camp so that they could avoid more embarrassment! lol. so they got punked and gave the guy 19 million more than their MVP of last year.

Wouldn't be great to see Thomas man handle Robertson, while Ram throws a 44 yard TD to Coles after Morton returned it past mid field on the opening kickoff which was not as long as the Jets had last year :D :D

We all do this to some extent. They will hope with all thier might that Coles is a bust. Won't happen though.

Can't think of much more to add. This simple statement by Skinz addresses my thoughts exactly.

Another piece of ammunition for Jets fans is THIS:

They not only gave up COLES for ROBERTSON...but they also gave up another 1st round pick! It was a 2-for-1 trade when they went up to snag Robertson.

So the next time a Jets fan says that if they had to choose between Coles and Robertson they would choose Robertson, also explain to them that they would ALSO have to give up another 1st rounder!

Jets fans have forgotten this, I presume.

those are some pretty ignorant jets fans that believe that!

rskinsfan10: Already got your back. Went over to the Mets.....excuse me, the Jets site and made a little noise over there. I'm sure that I have made some enemies over there (by agreeing with you and pointing out their own FO's inadequacies)......but as long as I have my Redskins family to back me up......I will be just fine. They are truly no match for us.....ON ANY LEVEL!!!!!!!!!!!

As much as I like Coles it's much easier to find a WR of his caliber than it is to find a DT like Robertson. Yes he can be a bust but it's a gamble that's worth taking.

As for the Conway replacing Coles post. Conway won't replace his production by himself, Santana Moss will help alot. At the same stage of his career as Coles Moss has been more productive and I expect a Coles '01 type season out of Santana which coupled w/ an average Conway season will more than repalce what Coles was able to do.

Thomas won't be manhandling DRob. Randy is a good G but the types of players he has trouble w/ are the big, wide loads at DT and DRob is huge, plus we now have Chester McGlockton. Randy could be in for a long night.

But we didn't trade Coles it's basically like we go DRob for OUR #1 pick. Either way it was a gamble but if DRob's as good as he's supposed to be(and certain teams had him rated as the best player OVERALL in the draft) then it will be a move we look back on that worked but if not the FO will be questioned about it forever. It's like in '00 when we traded Keyshawn(who by the way was a better WR the year we traded him than Coles was last year and we had Dedric Ward, Chrebet and a rookie Coles in '00 so our WR corps is in MUCH better shape now than then), people questioned it but we got some pretty good players and kept our of cap hell by having to give a WR a contarct as big as he wanted.

Not really....you basically traded Coles for Washington's first round pick. Afterwards, you had TWO first round picks. Of which, you traded them both to move up in the draft to take Robertson.

Yup..there is no way you could have got Robertson if not for our draft pick. I understand and agree where you are coming from about WR. Its easy to get a productive WR, but a playmaker is very hard to find. IMO Coles is a playmaker. He makes thing s happen on the football field. Robertson is a risk that might pay off. We will just have to wait for the season to see. Remember how much hype was behind Courtney Brown when he was chosen #1. Or Big Daddy Wilkinson. Just because your big does not mean you are guarenteed success. All I have see of Coles is him getting better and better each year. Hope the trend continues here.

Yeah nyjunc if you are taking into account the size with Randy versus Robertson then you are kidding yourself since Randy is taller and only 10 pounds lighter. and if Randy can't take care of him i am sure OUR HUGE Dockery will not have that much trouble. I also agree with Texskin about the rookies like Courtney Brown and there big production yeah right

Plus...Lets not forget that prior to workouts...Robertson was considered the 3rd best DT in the draft behind the likes of Kennedy and Joseph. Workouts are great...but its your performance on the field that counts.

Kennedy's downfall was the fact that his workouts were less than stellar compared to his onfield performance in the Big Ten.

Robertson's value was hoisted after his impressive workouts...but his onfield tenacity was questioned at UK.

Robertson is a risk, IMO, especially with a pick that high in the draft.

dj_stouty: Maybe he skyrocketed after workouts(and that did worry me a bit) but there were teams that had him rated #1 overall in the draft and a ton of teams tried desperately to move up to take him.

Of course he is a risk but unlike some of those other guys like Brown or Wilkinson Dewayne has talent around him. He'll be helped out tremendously by Ferguson, McGlockton, Abraham, Ellis & Thomas. It's definitely a risk but it was a risk worth taking.

Boy, this Skins/Jets offseason situation has heat up into a real debate. Its great that the teams will get to meet in the opener. I've gotta get as fired up to argue with the Jets fans as some of you. To this point, I've not had any illwill toward them. Sept 4 is fast approaching!

no problem rskinsfan 10. Anytime. Hailyeah, yeah, I also haven't been able to muster up any real hatred for the Jets either. My hatred continues to be towards the Cowboys, the Eagles and the Giants, obviously. Not to mention the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens (for more 'personal' reasons).

I was under the impression that the major reason the Coles offer was not matched was the plethora of first round picks the Mets...sorry, Jets had a few years back are due to be lining up with their hands held out.

Funny I was under the impression that they thought he was a little over rated, and that they would rather give the money to Morton...ooops.
