I should know better than to ask this on a redskins site! :lol1:

I personally think Emmitt was overrated. But that's just me. Payton was the second best RB of all time.

I would give it to Payton, but that is nothing taking away from Emmit Smith. He was a great back, truly great. I'll admit that. As much as I hate Dallas, I don't let that cloud my judgement of individual players.

I have to admit, I occasionally do this. I do dislike Smith. I just don't think he's a top 5 back in terms of talent. It's VERY possible to acheive great numbers and not being near the best.

his average ypc(4.2 for his career) was not nearly as good as payton.

i actually like emmitt. he's a class act.

I agree Payton was better. I never dislike Emmitt other than him running all over us for years, but as a person he was a class act, even Darrell liked him

Whoa, 11-0 for Payton. He was better. Smith has been a great back, but I thought Payton was brilliant at everything. The best blocking halfback I've ever seen, a terrific receiver, even good at throwing the halfback option pass. It's extremely rare to see a player like him, someone with no weaknesses in his game.

Smith has been a great one, though. And he's never embarrassed his team of the field either. A good fellow.

Walter Payton
I'm old enough to have watched him play.
He was superb and earned the name "Sweetness" in more ways then one.

It's still odd to think that he's gone...

he's dead, but will never leave us. with so many athletes who are in trouble with the law, it's nice to see someone like Walter. there will never be another Walter Payton.

Emmitt was (is??) great but Sweetness can't go without it.
