I think I'm starting to develope a definitive answer for the did Pierce deserve the money question and the answer to me is hell yes. It's not worth dwelling on (unlike the David Patten signing) but to me he's starting to look like he does deserve as much money as Marcus Washington. If he's a one year wonder, I'd say that he was more important to last year's defensive ranking then Washington.

I thought this thread was in reference to Sean Taylor, who would have saved us today if he was healthy. Tampa Bay completed more long bombs today than any other team has on us all year long. Everyone thinking Sean hasn't done enough this year or is in a sophomore slump should rewatch this game to see how much he means to our defense. We win easily with him healthy, it hurts badly not to have him.

i did not see marshal screw up and he did fairly well with tackles and stuff, but still without a dline the linebackers cant do much.

Would Pierce's presence made a difference today? I highly doubt it...
The run D held their backs to less than 60 yards rushing...and he wouldn't have been a factor in our d-backs defending big pass plays by Galloway and Shepard.

Sean Taylor and Cornelius Griffin would have made a world of difference. Pierce, doubtful.

I thought that, too. I was surprised how bad our secondary looked without the presence of ST.

Sean Taylor was the difference today not Piece hes gone theres no need to talk about him hes gone and theres no need to talk about him until its giants week again. Patten hopefully will step it up!

Pierce wouldn't have stopped Galloway or Shepard. How come whenever there's a bad loss, the first thing that happens is to pine away for players lost. Stop worrying about who's not on this team and can do nothing to fix the problems and start worrying about who's on the team and how they can fix things.

Hold up. You make the statement BC, but you don't provide the "Why". Why do you say this?

I can't wai tto hear this too. Pierce would not have been taking the place of Harris and he woudl not have helped ont he DLine. Marshall deserves no blame here. Taylor's injury was the big cost

I thought the same thing! We just saw how valuable Sean Taylor has been all season. Seldom have teams gone down the middle against us like Simms did today. A crappy young quarterback and marginal receivers revealed how easy it is to use and abuse our safeties without Taylor in there.
Sure, Griffin would have helped some with the pass rush but we got beat long and often down the middle....and Pierce was only so-so in coverage.
Marshal has done fine as his replacement. We got beat long and deep....not by short running plays where Pierce was at his best.
Right thread......wrong player.....

Smoot might have made more of a difference than pierce today(not that smoot is playing good this year). It seems our secondary gave away big play after big play.

From what I've seen of Smoot this year, we're better off with Walt Harris there. Smoot has really regressed as a player.

Read the thread title one more time. Pierce couldn't have prevented much, but we're missing his presence this season in generall and I think he was worth the money he asked for.

EXACTLY!
Without Griff, our D-Line is not even average. Without ST, our secondary scares no one.

They why bring it up? And explain how Pierce would have won this game for the Skins? Yes, you say "Not that he would have helped today..." but since you waited until today to bring this up, you obviously feel that pierce would have done something to change the result today.

I'm not sure what your point is but anyways, my point was on the D-Line, which was our biggest failure today.
As far as our secondary, tell me why I'm wrong that without ST, the opposing team can play with the entire field, without fear.

I was referring to the complete lack of coverage and the resulting 300 plus passing yards for Chris Simms!?!?!?!?! Not to mention the two or three TDs.
Basically I was joking.

Because today was the culmination of a very frustrating defensive season to watch.

i will definately agree with you there, but if you ask the same question for smoot what is the answer? It's more of a crapshoot when you think about how will certain backups will do. No matter how good you think they are, the fact is that they didn't start and they still have to learn. We'll see how this goes after the season.

At times yes, at times no. But the problem this week begins and ends with Sean Taylor's bad ankle. They weren't getting torched by the TE or by running the ball, the deep ball(something that hasn't been problematic this season) was. And clearly, Taylor's absence was critical. Pierce has been good calling the defense for the Giants, but too often do I see him celebrating over a play that someone else makes. Why he gets credit for this is beyond me.

WE all can beat this dead horse by now, but you reap what you sow (and trust this when the .5 of the 99.5 is added by the zebras, it hurts even worse.

Sorry, I misunderstood your sarcasm.
Our biggest problem on Defense is our line. Even GW's wizardry can't cover that any more.
The fact that the Bucs went for the win with the 2 pt conversion, with a run, showed that they had no respect for our D-Line.

As much as people here rip and shred on Pierce, this D misses him and I think he is playing well in NY. Yeah they got shredded by LT. Who hasn't?

The Redskins lost this game for two reasons:
1] They have no pass rush and Tampa -- like New York -- completely solved Gregg Williams' blitz packages; and
2] The secondary was awful.
Pierce wouldn't have made a difference and Lemar Marshall didn't hurt us yesterday. The problem was that our corners and safeties couldn't figure out who was supposed to be covering whom, the pass rush is non-existent, the blitz isn't working anymore, and Walt Harris needs to be benched.

I agree, but I'd also like to add that the defensive coaching staff did not adjust to glaring weaknesses that were present the ENTIRE game??? I don't get it? We're better than that.

I agree that we should've paid Pierce. Marshall does a decent job, but it always looks like he's still trying to line people up and make calls as the ball is being snapped. Pierce would see a formation and know what the play was going to be. That said, it's too late to worry about it now, we have to use what we got. A better question would be how much better would we be if Lavar rushed the passer on third downs?

I agree!! I heard the sports casters talk about pierce during their last game. They mentioned how he studies more than any LB in the league, and that he knows what the offense is running 80% of the time. But we can't look back, we have to focus on who we have, and how to put things together to make a playoff run, because we have QB's coming up that are alot better than sims.

Pierce is fantastic against the run, but is subpar in coverage. The problem yesterday was the pass defense and Marshall is pretty solid in that aspect of the game. Sean Taylor would have had a much larger impact on the game than Pierce...it's been a while since we've seen opposing offenses throw in the direction of the FS because Sean Taylor takes away that half of the field.
