View Full Version : Wednesday Morning QB Poll (Week 11)

BurgundyNGold
11-23-2005, 01:24 AM
After 10 games, the Redskins are still in the playoff hunt at 5-5. After starting 3-0, including the glorious win in Dallass, the team has gone 2-5 in it's last 7 games, effectively squandering the fast start and leaving us 2 games out of first place in the NFC East. How much if any of that burden rests on the shoulders of the starting QB?

What's your opinion on the Redskins starting QB? Here's how it works: Every week you vote for either "Approve", "Disapprove" or "Undecided". Remember, this question is a general feeling question, so it's not necessarily a result of the previous week's effort. I will then chart the results and post them as part of the next weeks poll. The polls will stay open until Saturday PM.

Ready, set ... vote!

Here is how YOU have voted this season:

I'll start it off. Sure Brunell had a bad day last week and his play overall has fallen off a bit but we wouldn't be in the playoff hunt if it weren't for him. Therefore I'm sticking w/approve. Do we have anybody on our roster now that can do a better job? I doubt it.

Every player can have a bad week and it was not just Brunell who struggled. I still approve.

I approve. The playcalling was horrible, probably the worst I have seen all year. Can anyone explain to me what has happened to the play action pass? Does Jack Burns not believe in it? I always thought this style of Offense was predicated on power running and play action. There is no element of surprise in what we are doing and we are not good enough to force our will on teams. Frankly, I'm surprised that Brunell has done as well as he has with the way this Offense is being called.

I put in a disapprove this week because of the way he has looked the past two games. I am not talking the losses, blah blah blah, no I am not blaming him, but I just don't think he looks as comfortable anymore. So for this week, I can not get him a thumbs up approval. Almost every player has a hand in thes elosses and losing 5 of the last 7, Hell no, I don't approve. I don't approve of any of them right now.

Approve

We have yet to dip below .500 all season...a feat the Skins haven't pulled off this late into the season since 1997. Brunell has been a big part of those wins...and he has been a big part of why we are in a position to win every game; even when we lose.

Brunell's comfort level has decreased because of the horrendous play calling...the fact that a defender is in his face on virtually every play and the fact that our makeshift WR corp can't get separation.

Under those circumstances, I think it is miraculous that he hasn't been a bigger reason for the losses. I approve of the way he has overcome these obstacles and kept us into games late.

Quoted comments to incorporate as my own.

I shudder to think of how any other QB on our roster would perform under the conditions of the past 2 weeks. Especially at Tampa.....PSF he played great in that game.

And IMO they use the shotgun too much now or in the wrong situations. Your right we need to catch the other team off guard and with the plays they are calling we are not getting that.

Answer:

They all underacheive IMO. They are not particularly dominant at rush or pass blocking. Better playcalling might help.

he may not be loosing games.
but he aint winning them either.

I approve. Brunell's numbers from last Sunday don't look good, but I think most people at the game would agree that he didn't have a lot of open targets. Moss was double-covered all game and Jacobs just doesn't get any separation at all. Look for every team to do to Moss what the Raiders did. The Skins will see it until they figure out how to beat it. If they can.

Exactly. Throwing the ball away may result in an incompletion, but the act is certainly more welcome than taking high-risk throws that are typically picked off.

I wouldn't start any other current Redskin, but I voted disaprove.

Like PennSkinsFan said, he doesn't look comfortable back there. He has defenders in his face all game, but he doesn't exploit opportinities when he gets them.

AND (big and) He has GOT to stop fumbling when he gets sacked or is forced to run. I can't remember a QB ever fumbling as much as Burnell

i disapprove. he is sputtering out there. I don't blame the loss entirely on him, but right now i disapprove of almost everyone on offense. The o-line, portis(fumbles), royal's crappy blocking, etc, playcalling and them generally just not getting it done and that it includes mark brunell.

Can't lay the all the blame on Brunell when you consider the playcalling was very bad last week, we have no #2 WR to take the pressure off of Moss and Portis laid it on the ground twice.

I voted approve. If this was based on a week to week performance I would have voted otherwise. I think his confidence is drained a little with the poor play of the Offensive line and the troubles at WR. Hopefully this will change but I don't know if it will come this week.

For the third straight week I am undecided. Glad to see some of you join me.

If we lose Sunday I would say it's time to start thinking about who is going to quarterback this team in 2006.

I reluctantly disapprove again. Can't.... get over.... the fumbles....

I shudder to think of how any other QB on our roster would perform under the conditions of the past 2 weeks.
Again, I don't think this is a poll about whether or not we have anyone better in our roster. It's also not about whether or not Brunell should be benched. It's about whether or not you approve of Brunell's performance last week, not whether Ramsey or Campbell could've done a better job.

Case in point, (kinda off topic, sorry)... the president approval polls (which I believe is where BNG got the idea for this poll to begin with). Do you even consider Chaney or Hastert in mind when you give your opinion of the president's performance? Just because you'd rather have Bush than Chaney in the White House doesn't mean that you have to approve his performance. JMHO...

I approve. He's not throwing INTs. Yeah he's fumbling a couple times, but overall he's making very good decisions. We haven't had a large number of targets for him to throw to recently.

Last week I approved, but this week it has dropped to an undecided. The team isn't playing like a...well, a team. And alot of that falls on the QB.Also...I'm still not liking the weekly fumbles.

But, he shouldn't be benched because he's the man for the system. We just have to get it together as a team.

Eating the ball on 4th down at the end of the last two weeks games instead of at least just launching it downfield towards a receiver to me is inexcusable. Too many things could happen. The receiver could've caught it or PI for example. Instead, we just got a big bag of "POOF! Game Over"

Maybe if Brunell didn't have 2-3 defenders in his face on those first downs he could have tossed it up. You can't throw the ball if defenders are on you quicker than you can cock your arm back...

Brunell is 1/1000000000th of the problem.....as far as not being able to get a pass off on 4th down....well....it isn't that easy when you have the opposite team ALL over you on a 3 man rush...it is quite embarrassing actually to our OL. I approve of his performance. Once again, I can't fathom where we'd be right now without Brunell running our offense.

I'll pick approve just because we are sitting at .500 because of him. If we get a losing record that's where i draw the line. We can't give games away like we have, it's killing not only the team but the fans! I might die if i see brunell fumble again... and i'm 17!

dont die yet dude! some of us old farts remember watching Mark Rypien fumble 11 times in one season, and he was one of Gibbs' favorites. of course Gibbs benched him that year because of it.

the fumbles should be correctable. at least he's not throwing a bunch of brainless interceptions. i dont know why everyone is fumbling so much. even Portis, Rock and Cooley are fumbling.

TV isn't showing th fact that his WRs simply weren't getting open against the Raiders.

im going to dissaprove, but riding the brunell bandwagon shouldnt be a ticket to approval, he obviously does not look comfortable, and the reason why we were in both games was because of portis. i know he fumbled blah blah but hes making plays. Right now i see brunell chocking, and unless get gets on track this week, i want to see the future not brunell stat padding.
