I just have to pay respects to Dr. Isaac Greggs. I don't know how familiar you are with Black College Football but Dr. Greggs is known as one of the best marching band directors. He is retiring this year as director of bands at Southern University in Baton Rouge. The Southern University Marching Band is known as the Human Jukebox because of their vast repetoire of songs. When you heard Southern University, you knew it was them. They have performed for a number of Superbowls and Presidential Inaugural Parades. They're one of the best and Dr. Greggs will be missed.
If you tuned into NBC today, you saw the Bayou Classic. Grambling University vs Southern University and I'm very mad I missed the halftime because I know the bands showed their stuff.
All is not lost in Louisianna.

Yeah, I do love marching bands at football games, especially bands that show some originality and style.
I went to Texas A&M. The A&M marching band is a military-style band. They are so beautifully precise, it gives me shivers when I see and hear them.

Yeah, I didnt catch the game today, but I have seen it the last 3 or 4 years. I started watching the Bayou Classic when Doug Williams started coaching at Grambling, and I was interested in how he would do. I soon found that the Bayou Classic is one of the few football games that kept me in front of my TV at halftime...the bands kicked a#s.

Ahh this thread was MADE for me. I actually watched the Bayou Classic and I also saw something on either nightline or some other tv program, that did an hour special on Dr. Greggs. The shows that he puts on are absoultely amazing. I've seen quite a few compitions (been in a couple too), and I'm always amazed at his band. They might not be the biggest band, they sure know how to put on a show.

Shush you! Drumline wasn't bad, but its nothing like seeing a compitition in person. If you haven't gone, I would reccommend it to everyone, its a great time, and its truly amazing to see what the band members can do.

I remember in the 80's Southern played a halftime at RFK. My dad and I used to meet some of his friends at the half. When he heard that's who was playing, he said we were staying to watch that. They didn't disappoint. They were bunched up in the end zone and then all sprinted in line to the other end zone and started playing. It was awesome.

Hey Mike, remember me talking to you about this? I agree with you WJ, their precision is amazing to watch.

It's not a marching band but blast! (http://www.blasttheshow.com/) is a pretty impressive stage performance. I'd bet that most of the performers at one time were in a competitive marching band. You may find it on DVD at a video store.

Blast is awesome. I'm waiting for Part II to hit my area. Yes, I do remember the conversation about Texas.

I saw a story about this and they had a quote, I'm not sure who said it but somebody said "we didn't always win the football game but we never lost a halftime show."

my dad used to that kind of stuff back in the day at UCLA
he keeps on telling me a story about how when they played stanford, the Stanford guys were all running around like it was chaos but then they paused, then they ran around again to make "UCLA". Everybody was confused except the the crowd and the guys in the blimp. During that pause they did the F bomb.
