I'm going to save my language because i know there are women and possibly small children that get on here ----> Dan Wilkinson is a WUSS. I feel almost about this guy like i did Sean Gilbert. Didn't like him when he was playing with us, and I was glad when he left. Wilkinson is about to put himself in that same boat. This mu..excuse me, sucker doesn't want to take a cut, WITH playing incentives that could make up the loss of the cut because he doesn't want to play that hard. As a coach, u hate to see players with so much potential and no heart or desire to get better....end result, a waste of talent. Washington is looking to cut him before preseason is over.

Your assessment, typed in words, is probably what most of us feel.

We're really over a barrel at DT this year. I'm more worried about that than anything. I hate being in the upper 20s in run defense. Just takes the wind out of the team when you can't stop the opponent and are getting killed in time of possession. Unfortunately, we need Big Daddy or someone decent in there no matter how annoying they may be.

It shows that he obviously doesn't care about the team...but the Skins offered the contract and though most would say that he should take a cut, how many of us would really want to do that?

I would..screw him..its not like he is a huge upgrade above what we have.

Well maybe now it seems he might do something for the team with his new agent

I couldn't possibly agree more with every single word of that.

We got two solid years of DT play out of him when Nolan was the DC. Since then we've gone through Rhodes, The Kurt and Marty show, Lewis, and now we have Edwards.
We've had DC's that like the DL to attack, and DC's the like the DL to occupy blockers and let the linebackers make plays. He's been asked to play the two gapper and the single gapper.
I agree that he doesn't always give 100% effort. And he doesn't maintain playing weight all the time. But I'd be pleased as punch to get the Wilkinson of '98/'99, when he gave us 87 tackles, 15.5 sacks, 15 stuffs, 2 picks, 7 passes defensed, and a TD.
I'm hoping that with Noble taking the two gap role, Wilkinson will be asked to do what he does best, use his quickness to penetrate and disrupt. It helps if he has his playing weight down and he's in shape.
There's no reason that a motivated Wilkinson couldn't give us the same season Gardener gave us last year - hell, DG only gave us 4 sacks and Wilkinson has equaled or beaten that for us in 3 different seasons.

Welcome. Love your album cover. It sent me scrambling to my vinyl to make sure I still had it.

Whats up Terry and welcome to hR. I like your take on Big Daddy but unfortunatly for him the NFL is the business of WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY ? . The reason this is bad is because 98/99 is a far cry from, well......... "LATELY". This has as much to do with BD as his agent too. Hell, he ain't no damn rookie. He knows what the deal is. His agent didn't do anything to keep him in shape. It always has to be a threat. I don't want you here if you don't want to be. We are at the doorway of some good things and at this point BD is taking up space (and a roster spot).
You can't speak on what happened in 98/99 and wish for better days. He has been with us longer than any of the others now. It may just be time......... :whoknows:
We have gotten players that we said maybe the change of scenary would do them some good. Maybe we have a player that needs a change of scenary......
Where the hell is the Free Agent Fairy so we can move on with our business.

After Arrington and Bailey, Wilkinson may be the most important player on the defense. He may not be the most productive but he knows exactly what he means to the team. Not as much as the team means to him though.

I agree BC, and like I said prior, that scares me. Sitting him out, making him take a pay cut, where would the motivation come from? Thats a scary point. Biog Daddy is not easily motivated anyway, let along sitting him and forcing a cut. The only motivation I can think of is he knows this is his last season in DC, so he may pay for a big pay day next year.

If Brig Owens can't negotiate this to a end that is suitable for both BD and the Team........... then let BD go!
