At first I thought maybe this would be OK as long as they are honest. Turns out they are not honest. Americans are actually writing these articles but pretending they are written by Iraqis. It's propaganda.

here is a quote from an AOL article that most of you wouldn't be able to get:
"Western press and frequently those self-styled 'objective' observers of Iraq are often critics of how we, the people of Iraq, are proceeding down the path in determining what is best for our nation," the article began. Quoting the Prophet Muhammad, it pleaded for unity and nonviolence.
But far from being the heartfelt opinion of an Iraqi writer, as its language implied, the article was prepared by the United States military as part of a multimillion-dollar covert campaign to plant paid propaganda in the Iraqi news media and pay friendly Iraqi journalists monthly stipends, military contractors and officials said."
There is no doubt in my mind that propaganda and lies like this are detrimental in the long term to the USA.

Is that in any reputable source?

Is that in any reputable source? The Guardian is just reporting what was first reported in The Los Angeles Times, which has been breaking a number of Iraq stories lately. The Boston Globe also re-ran the LA Times piece on this story. You can read it here (http://www.boston.com/news/world/articles/2005/12/01/us_planting_stories_in_iraqi_newspapers/?rss_id=Boston+Globe+--+World+News).

Thanks. Contrary to the Guardian's report (which is slightly less reliable than Newsmax) the Globe reports the stories are true, just written with bias.

Yeah, sorta like the paid advertisements the US government tries to put over on our allies, except for the "true" part.

In a stunning turn of events the right wing media has come out in full support of these lies and propaganda. Lying to Iraqi citizens is the best way to bring them the truth in the right wing's estimation.
Since ends justify the means to these people, I wonder if they considered it OK to lie to Americans in order to elect Bush.

They aren't lies.

They aren't lies.
If you say an article was written by an Iraqi citizen but it was really written by the Pentagon that is in itself a lie. Pure and simple.

One of the things that bothers me about this story is that Bush says he's troubled by this operation. Troubled? Didn't he know about it? And if he knew about it, didn't he approve of it? So why would he be troubled by it?
Unless, of course, he didn't know about it. Which leads me to ask: What else doesn't he know about what we're doing in Iraq?

What does he not know and when did he not know it?

Dems determined to ignore progress in Iraq
December 4, 2005
BY MARK STEYN SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST
Sen. Joe Lieberman, Democrat of Connecticut, came out with a big statement on Iraq last week. Did you hear about it? Probably not. Everyone was still raving about his Democrat colleague, Rep. Jack Murtha, whose carefully nuanced position on Iraq is: We're blah blah blah
