I know its early but I have been wondering. If in the 06 draft if the we get any compensatory picks? I think we lost more in FA last year that what we gained. Can anyone help me out with this one?

we should. we lost 2 Starters on D in Smoot and Pierce. With the way Pierce is playing compesation for him could be pretty high, Smoot would have been too, but with his injury causing loss of playing time it probably wont be as muchas Pierce. im thinking we get a 3rd for Pierce and a 4/5 for Smoot. There have been better break downs of Compensatory picks but they were done before the season.

oh thats great. We can probley address all our marjor needs on the first day if we get a 3rd round compensetory pick. If we pick DE (elvis dummerville) with our second, WR (sinorice moss or that guy from ND his name escapes me) , for our first third, and a DT with our second third ( orien harris) I would cry with joy

Considering the slow, sweet lovemaking that Antonio Pierce is receiving from the national media this year, I'd imagine we should get a pretty solid draft pick for him. Honestly if I have to hear one more feel good slurp fest about how much film this guy watches, I'll puke.
Getting an extra third would be great. If that massive WR/man-beast from Notre Dame is still on the board then he better be holding up a Redskins jersey by the end of the day because that kid can ball.

I hope we get something. I thought the way it worked was if you lost more in FA than you what you gained. You get compensated. But im not sure what picks we would get. We did loose two starters on D too FA. But did pick up a starter on Offence.

I don't think we will get a compensatory pick for Pierce because we didn't draft him. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent. We may get a 6th rd pick for Smoot but that would be about it, IMO.

He deserves all the praise he's getting...if he was playing for the Skins you wouldn't be puking.

He was our starting MLB and he went to the Gints after we made him an offer. I don't think where we drafted him figures into the equation but I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure it is based on losing players that you drafted. Just because we were the first team Pierce played for doesn't matter, we signed him originally as a free agent, so we will get no compensation for him.
This whole thread is more of a pipe dream than our playoff chances, lol. All the fans that look forward to the draft every year remind me of the Tampa fans of the '80's. I guess I can understand it from the younger folks, who have never experienced real success from the Skins.

I think it has top do with how much money they got vs. how much you spent. RFA is where draft position comes in.

I have been around for the winning years. But if we don't make the playoffs. We have too look forward to the off-season what to do in FA and the draft. Lets face it the Draft is very important. Were low on picks why not ask about compensatory picks?

i did a bunch of digging trying to find the formula that is used to determine whether or a team receives compensatory picks this is the best that i could find....
Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. The formula was developed by the NFL Management Council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a club is covered by this formula.

based on this we should get good compensation for Pierce (despite the fact he was on undrafted free agent)....most likely a 4th (but maybe a 3rd if he makes the pro bowl)....
and i would imagine a 5th or 6th for smoot...(his injury killed us....but at least he has that bloated salary of his so who knows?)....

Don't get your hopes up too high. Compensatory picks are based on the net loss of free agents. So Rabach, Patten, Holdman, etc. will count against Smoot and Pierce, and could minimize the Redskins' picks. And you thought Holdman and Patten had already done enough damage.
EDIT: Seeing as Holdman was signed for the minimum (and was benched) and Rabach and Patten are making considerably less than Smoot and Pierce the Redskins should still get something, but expecting a third or fourth rounder seems like setting ourselves up for dissappointment.

So should we all rush to vote him into the Pro Bowl since no Skin has a chance to make it at that position?
As for Stovall he is a beast, even though I loathe ND, I would love to see him in burgandy and gold. Didn't he have a season ending injury?

Pierce wasn't drafted, he was an undrafted free agent in 2001. No compensitory pick for Pierce and I'm not sure if we will get any compensitory picks.

Where he was drafted only applies when a RFA gets signed away from a team and that team gets compensation for not matching the offer. For an RFA signing, the team that loses the player gets the signing team's draft pick for the round the player was picked in. This doesn't apply for either Smoot or Pierce who were UFAs.
UFA compensatory picks are based on a formula the league uses to compensate teams for UFA signings based on how much the player was signed away for and how well the player performs on his new team. The UFA model allows the leagueto award compensatory draft picks for the team that lost the UFA to the end of a round, usually somewhere between rounds 3 and 7.
We will get picks for both Pierce and Smoot as they both signed big contracts and were starters for their new teams. The only question is whether either will be closer to 3rd round picks or 7th round picks.
