Can you all recommend a good site to download music for my iPod? Free is preferable but something cheap works too.

The iPod accepts iTunes and your own compact discs. It's not a simple matter to download music from other sites to iPod. It's not what Apple wants you to do.

that is why I ma glad my phone is a pocket pc and I use Windows Media, I can play anything, except stuff I get from Itunes. So periodically I burn a cd and then rip it into regular mp3s. Itune mp4 files are encoded.

Kazaa has caused the death of millions of campus computers. That program is seriously evil. If you download Kazaa you might as go out and resurrect a 1989 MacIntosh because that's about how well your computer will run from then on.

Wait, iPod doesn't accept mp3's? Most places online charge 99 cents per song or 9.99 per album.

Ipod does accept mp3's but it's native songs are in AAC format. I have plenty of mp3's on my iPod. The issues with mp3's come in with the protected ones but you can look around and find ways of cracking them. You didn't hear that from me though.

Steve Jobs is going to save the world from Lucifer (read: Bill Gates), so I'm happy to put 99 cents in his pocket anytime I need a song on the ol' iPod.

Limewire. No pop-ups, and all around good. I usually shut it down though unless I am using it, when someone is uploading a song from me it tends to slow down my computer a little and I can't have that while I am playing poker lol.

i got an ipod nano, and i got a question for people with ipods. it might seem a little silly, but how do i charge my ipod? i plug it into the computer correctly, so thats not the problem. but it seems like its either not charging it or it is using up the battery. i charged it when the little bar on the right corner was green, and now its red. whats going on?

If you really wanted to be a scrooge you could set your "upload" folder to be empty like I used to do.

Make sure you're plugging into a powered USB port on the computer. I know some Windows laptops don't have these, maybe other computers too, so if that's the case you'll need to buy a charger. If you're plugging into a port on a keyboard or some other external device, try using one of the ones actually on the computer, that might solve your problem.

As for music downloads, one of the nice perks of college is a peer to peer network they can never shut down: if I want a song, I just find a friend who has it and get it from them, thru AIM or just plugging my iPod into their computer.

Didn't you already ask that? And didn't I already answer you?
Also, just FYI, chord=musical notes, not cables.

torrentspy.com for full albums
Direct Connect (DC++) for any everything else - it's stable and has no ads. You have to forward a port on your router though if you have one.

No offense bearshare is not that great of a program anymore.
The RIAA watches too closley and there is soo many fake/infected files.
I do like Emule, Edonkey2000, limewire, straight bit torrent, and even gnutella(or however you spell it)
But again for cheap, legal music.. http://www.allofmp3.com/ it is a Russian site that has all sorts of music. New and old and the music costs two cents per megabyte. The standard song is about 5-10 cents each!
This place is crazy cheap and if it were in the USA it would be illegal. However it is in Russian then they have different laws there. The RIAA tried to get it shut down and failed. So the place is legit. (or at least for now :)

I remember you talking about this site and now that I'm one of the many IPodPeople I was wondering if they have any sort of encoding or restrictions or something that would make the songs you download off this site not work in an Ipod, you know, Apple being a crafty monopolist and all? I actually read through most of the terms and conditions and it seems legit, viva Putin!
Also, I agree with Dave. 99 cents a song = expensive, especially when you know that if you take the time you can find the songs for free elsewhere. 99 cents adds up in the end.

Trying to avoid the illegal stuff until I get around to fixing my laptop. Also, when they're selling albums for roughly 1.50 a pop it's better than trying to piece together a full album on Limewire.

Just gave it a shot...works A-Ok so far. $1.50 for an album vs. .99 cents a song. Good deal for me. When my credit card bill has 1000 dollars worth of liquer from a place in Ulan Ude I'll spread the warning.
