Looks like Big Daddy will be staying with us after all. He has changed agents and may be willing to take a reduced salary in order to stay in Washington.
He is expected to be in camp today.
Maybe this is telling us something about this man. Many of us had turned on him because at first he was not willing to come off of that salary but I for one am glad to see him staying.
Playing time and hard work will be the incentives to a higher salary for him.
As I see it, it was too darn close to camp for us to have problems with the anchor of our line because of a holdout or by bringing in someone new.
Last point, Dan Wilkenson ain't nothing like Sean Gilbert. Gilbert was a dope and only cared about self.

I'm happy for only one reason. Like you said Shabba, its too late to bring in someone new to anchor the DL. Especially at the position that we are the weakest.
If Wilkenson does lower his earnings this year then yes, he would have redeemed himself to the fans. It shows that he wants to remain a Redskin and that he's a team guy. He's putting the team first instead of himself.

While I agree that Gilbert was selfish his performance on the field was better than Wilkenson has provided

I honestly can't remember Gilbert doing all that much when he played here. Maybe some of you can refresh my memory.

Once again, I have to go with Shabba. Gilbert didn't do a thing in DC or with the Panthers.
The only good thing he ever did for the Skins was help get us Bailey and Arrington.

I hope your right..if it was the agent and Big Daddy does agree on a reduce...I will humbly eat crow.

I have mixed feelings about keeping BDW. While he is by far the best tackle on the team he is also vastly overpaid and underachieving. If it was earlier in the offseason or if there were a few more able bodies around then I would want to see the team release him. But doing so now would create a huge hole in an already weak area. Noble is mediocre at best and IMO better suited to be a backup and Haley while adequate is not exactly a difference maker. Cowsette is a marginal player who probably will get beat out by Holsey.

At this point i just hope Big daddy reduces his cap number a little and they sort it out at TC. Maybe a surprise like cowsette or greg scott can make a difference.
I think it is a good sign big daddy is changing his agents... maybe that was a source of the problem?? Here's to hoping so.
The light at the end of the tunnel is that we only have ONE MORE YEAR till a longterm solution to DT arrives in the draft (knock on wood). A first or second rounder next year hopefully won't make us miss Gardener's presense on the field.

I'll be elated if he takes a pay cut, because he's getting far too much as it is. The problem is that as of right now he's perhaps the best DL on the team, and definitely the best DT, so he's in a good bargaining position. Hopefully by the end of the season someone new will emerge. LaDarius Jackson (whose name I just butchered), perhaps?

It looks as if he will stay, but the front office has to do something in the offseason to make D line the first thing addressed

I guess I am a sceptic until I read it in print.

if he accepts the incentive-laden contract and he has an excellent year because of it, would you all want him back next season? well, if just wanting win isnt incentive enough, hopefully money will be.

I hope he accepts the pay cut as well and an incentive laden contract is a good choice. He he plays well, he gets his money. As for your question Lady, well it would help in the consistency but if we could draft a young stud, then I'd probably go that route.

you got that right skins57...the times dont know jack!
hail2skins...IMO, if big daddy had a good year, id honestly see if we could sign him for one more year because i doubt if we will have enough money to either sign a big time DE or DT, or draft a great DT or DE. thats my wish for next year: to have 2 very good D Lineman next year, as well as a good K/P set.

I see your point. I wish we would have addressed DT in the draft this year but we didn't. My reason for drafting as opposed to resigning is because he'll probably try to demand alot of money for the one good season.

Gilbert trashed the inside blocking, and also allowed Richie 'Redskin' Owens to have the best year of his career. Golbert had a career high 55 tackles in '96, 4 stuffs, 3 sacks, and a coupla passes defensed,
Say what you will about talking to God and sitting out, he was a pretty good DT for us that year, and helped the guys around him.

Gilbert was a flop for the $$$ paid to him

The money paid to him by who? How much did WE pay him for '96?
That was the best DT play we saw until Gardener last year maybe his best all round year in his career, then we avoid signing him for the outrageous contract, then we turn him into 2 first round picks, and then he flops for the rest of his career.
And you're complaining?
