Buccaneers.com reports rookie P Andy Groom has been impressive early in training camp thus far. Groom is competing with P Tom Tupa for the team's punting duties in 2003. "He is a good prospect," said head coach Jon Gruden. "He gets the ball off quickly, and he's got a powerful leg. We're going to put him in a lot of situations on the practice field and in the preseason games and try to see exactly where he is as a situational punter and how he handles the game-like situations."

I wish the kid luck but this sucks. I still wish we would have drafted him in the 7th round......

Hamden better be worth it... I agree with you Mike about how we should have drafted groom....

me too. ive seen hamden throw and he does have a very nice arm, but that arm couldve been signed as an undrafted FA! :mad:

Is Tupa better than Barker or Bartholomew? Sounds like he could be available?

Was thinking the same thing..whcih ever these two get s cut maybe we could pick them up.

Tupa is too versitle, remember he can QB as well. He used to be deep on the Patriots roster, but did play occasionally, not to mention the fake punts. In other words, they will either carry two punters, or Groom will be available.
I do have SERIOUS reservations about Barker, but I've heard he's determined to regain his once pro bowl form, and rookie punters make too many mistakes that we can't afford this year.
